I called Mazda this morning - they mentioned about 6% RX8's had been returned. Our local Mazda dealer has 25 RX8's out front - unsure if they are returns. Seems alittle high!

Well, if all car buyers had the oppertunity to return their car after a while, I think 6% would be ranked as pretty decent.

Six-percent of the approximately 3500 cars that were sold prior to the buy back is only about 210 extra RX-8s that will be on the used market. If the 6% number is correct, maybe the car won't take such a hit on depreciation after all.

Depreciation is determined by demand for the used car, so I think it's the bad publicity that Mazda is getting all over the internet that might play a bigger factor.

Those returned cars will not go into the market. The employee's get first dibs on them, and after that their probably trashed.

on the contrary on publicity. I see the 8 getting rave reviews (everywhere but MSN) and nearly every pro review as spectacular. As far as depreciation, the Miata didn't falter any.

It seems like 8 Rx8's are in the process of returning in Canada. Which is something like 2-3% so not too bad.

Although if you are worried about depreciation I don't think this car is the car to get. The RX8 is a sports car in my opinion but Mazda is trying to market the car as a sedan. It's not like a miata which is more of niche market.

I've noticed the S2000 has a REALLY low depreciation, only 48 were sold in Canada last year!

Facts, dude, we're looking for facts. Hard to say what the "local newspaper" says when you don't even post your hometown. So pray tell, which dealer is saying this? Time and time again we've seen claims like this exposed as exaggerated hype and bait/switch. Tell us what dealer, and we'll see how many he's really got on the lot and how far below MSRP they really are.

I cant quite believe this to be an actual fact. The cheapest RX8 I have seen in this area (PA) is 28-29K not inc tax, title and tags. Actually the price seems to have increased. ebay has been selling their RX8's at the same prices.

Regardless, I think the RX8 is a great car, and will hold its value for a while. We will just have to wait and see how the rest of the year pans out. If by chance the 8 does depreciate greatly after the first year (6000) ish, I'll probably sell mine

Some of you guys are getting way too defensive. I'm not even a troll. Read any of my past postings. I'm starting to see more and more flames on this forum when anyone says anything that is construed as negative.
So you don't think the fact that on every car forum, and every single car guy I know has read online about how it's a shame that Mazda may have been lying and may still be lying about specs is not bad publicity? I know people that were so close to pullin the trigger but are waiting, not because of less power, but because they are not sure if they can trust Mazda as a company. This is the result of negative publicity from the net.
So you yourself are sounding like one of the drones who have bought the car and must defend it at all cost, even against a post you perceive as an attack and is NOT. Publicity does not necessarily mean magazines or newspapers. Publicity also includes public forums. It's all public perception. Anyone who even considers this car is probably doing a little more reading than picking up a magazine at the store. Find me one forum that did not have a discussion on the HP issue, and then go even further and show me which one was all roses, without any criticisms about the way Mazda handled everything or that many people still think they are lying? Like I said, there is pleny of negative publicity out there.

The RX-8 was never intended to be limited production. Mazda expects to sell MANY of them. This means that pricing will become competitive and you will be able to "deal" on them. The first owners paid a "premium" to get them sooner - that's all.

OK, so that might be one dealership having a hard time selling anything in a bad market. Still doesn't mean much. I've been to three Mazda dealerships recently here in VA and none of them are offering the RX-8 for below MSRP. One dealer had something like 26 RX-8's on his lot--none of them below MSRP.

First off, it's in central valley which is like Cowtown USA. Did we expect this to be the hotbed of RX-8 activity where 2/3 the population is migrant workers and the rest drive ford/chevy pickups? somehow I'm missing the relevance.

Secondly, I am distinctly not impressed with the $299 lease. how's the car outfitted? How much down? What's the residual? Mileage allowance? Interest rate, or whatever they call it on leases. Length of the lease? They could get the monthly payment down to $199 by making these others terms crappy enough. In other words, you got nothin' backing you up.

Finally, we really did see a post earlier of a documented $2000 discount. Sure nuff, the dealer added crap like leather & paint protectant, underbody, locking lugs (note, half this stuff is from the factory free but the schmoe was marking up for it.) Then, he generously offered a $2K discount making the car a mere few hundred above sticker. Some deal. So if ya got something better post it and make us shut up. Otherwise, you gotta face the fact that your just a sexless drone with ur head where it don't belong. But I mean that in a nice way. :)

I don't disagree with you, 6MT RX-8's (yes, multiple, not singular demo units) under $25k is one hell of a deal. I think the RX-8 should have been sold at this price to begin with. Mazda can meet their sales goal much easier with this type of aggressive pricing.

Well, you still can't buy a 6MT G35 sedan or coupe under $25k, so I don't see how a comparison would help much. Killer deal? It's only $2400 off MSRP, not the end of the world. Still a sweet deal though. (if anyone really needs this ad for price negotating or comparison, PM me)

Actually, its not my english, its my spelling. I came to grips with the fact I just will never be a good speller about two decades before you were born. does not bother me, but by all means, keep focusing on that.

And I did not say I was top of class. I did amjur two subjects. Of course, you do not know what that means, but thats ok.

You know, let me save you some time here. I drove the 8 before I bought it. I purchased the car based on this, not the specs. I tend to keep a car about 8 years, so resale does not matter to me. I liked the car, better then the G35, so I bought it. Beleve it our not, I could have anycar I want, really. (Well, I do draw the line around 50 grand. I just feel no car is worth more then that) HP is meaningless to me, the car goes as fast as I need. I am not pissed off at mazda for the spec change, all car co do this. I feel I paid a fair price, and I know and accept that the car will be discounted someday. It is the nature of cars. I do not get why you think any of this would upset me, But try to insult me in some other areas next time, who knows, you may hit a nerve.
