View Full Version : RX-8 Track Racing (Getting Spanked)
AleGav 07-20-2007, 05:04 PM Ok so i go down to my local drag and almost always end up racing V8's. Most of the time i don't do so well. I mean i don't get worked but i never win. Just want to know if there is anyone out there who has beaten a V8 or who has been spanked by any other type of car and vise versa
Derex'8 07-20-2007, 05:23 PM Oh wow this should be good...
AleGav 07-20-2007, 05:57 PM not sure what you mean by that lol
hogcar 07-20-2007, 06:03 PM I like spankings!:lol2:
TeamRX8 07-20-2007, 06:27 PM not sure what you mean by that lol
somehow I don't think this is what he meant :cwm27:

Cody Red 07-20-2007, 06:30 PM go to a REAL track, not some boring ass drag strip and spank their ass...either way you'd want to...
alnielsen 07-20-2007, 06:31 PM If your are running "at the local drags", you should be bracket racing and running against an index. The only way to get spanked is if you, as a driver, screws up. I can't believe any sanctioning body would class a RX8 against a V8 car.
AleGav 07-20-2007, 06:33 PM I dont always race them but when i do the outcome is no good. i was just wondering if anyone has been to a track or drag and done pretty well?

What do you expect? It is what it is.
When I used to drag race in my 11 sec., 120+mph trap LS1 powered Fbod, I knew what the outcome would be most of the time.
If I were to drag race in the RX8 (something which I would not do), I know what the outcome shall be.
A 14 sec. car is a 14 sec. car. A 13 sec. car is a 13 sec. car. ......... An 11 sec. car is an 11 sec. car, so on and so forth. It is determined by physics.
Perhaps you will beat a 13 sec. car with a driver whom is learning how to drive- but that's all you can hope for- human error.
AleGav 07-20-2007, 09:48 PM Damn, didn't expect this thread to be so negative. I don't care that I lose I just want feedback "POSITIVE" feedback and stories.

I wouldn't get so offended. I think people just don't understand why you would take an RX8 to the dragstrip. That would be like taking a knife to a gunfight. I think most 8 owners are more into auto-X or tracking their cars because that's where it really shines...... :yumyum:

stupid in stupid out...
i saw an rx8 own a subaru justy once. i think it was a turbo. i know it was 4wd... it had some major traction.. does that help?
beers

Reality hurts sometimes ;) Sorry guy.
Here's an old timeslip of mine from when my car was first breaking in to 11's. Perhaps the guy in the other lane was a hopeful, "POSITIVE" thinking person who thought he had a chance......

3.299 seconds may not seem like much, but let's just say you would have needed to use several Greyhound buses to measure the distance between my car and his.
Unmodified 4.6L V8 Mustangs from the '90s are "slow" 14 sec. bait. Pick a fight with them for starters and see how it goes.
hmerrittiii 07-21-2007, 07:04 AM You need to take the RX8 out to a Performance driving school event and you can tear those V8's up on the corners and s curves, however wave bye bye to them on the straights. On these tracks the only car as tight is a newer Porsche.
Go to trackschedule.com and click calendar they even have a mazda school.
Owe and it is a blast.
logicaldx 07-21-2007, 10:17 AM Well, I can tell you I get whipped on a regular basis in my 2006. I thought about getting a cold air intake but it won't matter I dont think, will it? I did beat a celica GT! lololol
AleGav 07-21-2007, 01:39 PM Awesome. that is what i wanted to hear. I dont know of any Auto x tracks around me granted i have not looked but none jump to mind.
Derex'8 07-21-2007, 01:52 PM I'm sure there are plenty of Auto X events out your area, search around these forums, plenty of guys from cali on these boards that Auto X...matter fact they got a whole thread dedicated to it here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=104787)
Rootski 07-21-2007, 06:10 PM Oh, I thought you meant a proper track.
dillsrotary 07-21-2007, 06:24 PM get nitrous
imput1234 07-21-2007, 08:10 PM Why does everyone keep dissing YOUR OWN CAR ?
If someone wants to build a drag machine out of a rx8, go for it. :lol2:
tj7723 07-22-2007, 12:40 AM the drag track i go to i some how always get set up with some bilt v8 last time i got next to what looked like to be an good 10sec mustang they ended up backing him off the line and letting me run alone. They dont really match any one up its an open night and what every you pull up beside is what you are going to run. But hey i do it just to stay off the street and have a little fun
AleGav 07-23-2007, 06:49 PM Thank you, thats what i am talking about you just race who is next to you even if its a jet i bet they would make me race it
You live in what is probably one of the best if not the best autocross regions in the world. Drag racing has its thrills and is harder than it seems it should be, but you will experience a whole new level of enjoyment in your RX8 at an autocross. Unless you are really terrible, you will routinely beat cars that kill you at the dragstrip.
That's as positive as I can be.
Mysturji 07-24-2007, 11:13 AM Ok so i go down to my local drag...
OK, I'll assume that by "drag" you mean "Accellerating in a straight line". Because the alternative is just to horrible to contemplate (especially if it involves spanking)!
May I suggest that you take one of those V8 behemoths out onto a real track - one with corners - and do some spanking yourself?
AleGav 07-24-2007, 02:59 PM Well then i guess I have to try out this Auto Cross and spank some V8's
SouthFL 07-24-2007, 03:03 PM ^
It's not that easy ;)
AleGav 07-24-2007, 03:10 PM Eh it may not be easy but i am sure i will have lots of fun
xbeatxdownx 07-25-2007, 02:05 PM Ive been wanting to do some track racing but the closest place around here is willow springs raceway and its way to much money to go run on it. Kinda sucks but anyways, Ive ran against straight six's and only lost to a 3000gt TT. I think thats pretty good for a car everyone says is slow in a straight line...
nate340 07-27-2007, 02:51 PM I live within 30min of a track, I’ve only taken my 8 once the best I ran was a 14.8 the slowest run was a 15.2 with a passenger.
My second run I beat a fox body mustang he ran a 14.9, I easily got the hole shot but the mustang started to run me down, I watched him run a few times that night he did get the car into the mid 14’s. There also was a late 80’s iroc there and i was beating him all night the best he ran was a 15.3.
Those are the only v8 cars I’ve beaten, a 14.8 isn’t that fast for a 8
takahashi 08-01-2007, 03:49 AM Track racing is American English is Drag strip.
Learn something everyday.
In British and Australian English, track has 10+ corners.
