Ok guys im ready to buy an exhaust but im stuck between borla and greddy. now the sound clips that i have heard from them are not the greatest but i get the idea. as far as looks i like the greddys new all stainless catback. performance ide be guessing its about the same?? what are your guys opinions? i think i like the throaty borla but not for sure. help me out guys

Borla does sound ricey when combined with a catless midpipe.

But the solution is easy, either don't install a catless midpipe, or install a turbo to quiet down the exhaust.

I have the Borla and at some rev points (about 3,000-4,000) it sounds a touch on the ricey side but besides that it gets a nice growl when there's a load on the engine (such as starting on a hill) or it gets a real mean racecar/tuned sound when you're really getting that carbon out of the engine in the higher rev ranges.

Plus you can't beat those huge chrome tips. They fill the stock bumper out nicely.

what is no, not so much.. i have had it with both.. the greddy goes rice fast if you alter the stock cat..

as to the mazspeed, it is close to the greddy.. fine with the stock cat..

Earlier this year I visited the Pettit Racing shop down in Florida, and made a mental note of several Borla Exhaust sitting on the floor with burn-through marks on the cannisters...all in the same place. Cam mentioned that he was unhappy with the quality and was talking with Borla about it. Not sure which cars they came off of, or whatever came of the situation but it did make me wonder about long-term durability. How about other Borla owners that have had theirs on for awhile...anyone else seeing this?

Please no defensive replies, I am simply trying to provide some info and am interested in whether others using the Borla have had the same experience?

i have borla... i love it..... i let my dad back my car in the garge before it snowed last winter.. and i was stadning behind it and my god.. it sounds soooo much sexier outside of the car then inside.. but borla deffintly gets my vote

i do have to qualify that dont i... it is all relative to what you can stand...

the the corksport / mazdaspeed was to loud under cruise with my hi flow cat... as i know the greedy would be also.

the borla is just a touch to loud under the same conditions..

i am not as tolerant to noise as some others. i spend a lot of time on the highway... 75k miles in three years.

i have put 50k miles on mine, it had 15k miles on it when i bought it... works fine.

I had mine for about 40k miles, with about 11k turbocharged. It was fine too.

Look up the borla warranty (Although you should keep in mind it only applies to the original owner), as it should be taking care of these issues described.

Thanks for clarifying the durability factor guys. I have owned Borla exhaust in the past and have always had good luck with their products, but worried a bit after seeing the ones at Pettit. They were not burned-through, but they had a burn pattern on the metal that appeared to be where the exhaust dumped into the canister. I realize the rotaries make a lot of heat so maybe it was simply heat stain of some sort. Based on your reports it sounds like they have held-up pretty well in real-life use at 40-50K miles, and with the warranty it should be a no worry option.

Cause of the way the muffler has to sit on the 8. Most all exhaust (beside maybe the HKS high flow) all make a sharp bend at some point. My MS dual can is blued at the Y pipe that connects the mufflers. Most other kits I've seen seem to blue right where the exhaust hits that first hard bend or dead end.
You'll even see that on the stock muffler when you pull it out.

I have a Greddy with a supercat and it F'n rawrs... w/o the supercat it's not that loud... but with it... it's sick... I met a kid one time with a Borla and a supercat... did sound a little ricey in the mid-range but got nicer as her rev'd up...
