Under Drive Pulleys

Any of you guys recommend a brand of under drive pulleys. I was looking at sr motorsports. They claim 12hp gain with their pulleys, but I don't know how much truth is with that because if mazda did their homework when they built the 8 then they left off a little extra power.

There are many discussions about this. Reading most of them won't get you anywhere. If you have money for it, then just get it and figure it out by yourself.

Lot's of hype...very little truth...

watch out what retailers say in their advertisements - 12hps is hard to come by for the 8 especially if you have an AT. Increase in throttle response and slight increase on low to mid range.

I think underdrive pulleys mod have more to do with cooling enhancement rather than power output.

I agree with Atilla. I have the Agency Underdriven Pulley and slight increase in throttle response and slight increase on low to mid range is what you would get (but SLIGHT is the keyword). And the pulley actually (should) worsens your AC by taking away power to the accessories (I know that I'm not talking technical now), but truthfully I run with my AC on during summer months and do not experience discomfort. No I haven't measured the temperature difference (nor do I care to).

Seems to be mainly 2 choices. Agency Power Pulley and Unorthodox Pulley.

Appears a slight edge goes to the Agency Power Pulley because its cheaper and people have reported slight performance increases.

The counter argument is that the slight performance increase is not worth the risk. But, few people with the pulley have reported having any problems, and of those it appears to have been install issues and not the pulley itself.

I've put underdrive pulley's on all the AT cars I've owned thus far, I've never noticed a definite gain in horsepower for the AT, just mainly a gain in terms of acceleration, which in turn made the AT more fun to drive in the end (i.e., 1st gear won't suck so bad anymore ). Also, the drawbacks never outweighed the gain in pleasure of driving the car after the mod was done.

Are you saying the engine will run cooler by turning the waterpump slower?
