Does any body have the Rev8 exhaust and cat replacement pipe?
If so how loud is it and is there a major difference vs just the exhaust

Outside it sounds really really loud, especially from behind the car. I'll post a vid in a bit Nightkat 06-08-2007, 03:47 AM I will take this as a chance to get one of my questions in as well. I have heard that removing the cat from the 8 makes the car stink.....Why? doesn't that stink come from the cat letting you know that it is going bad? I had the cat removed from my cougar when I had it and had no problems there. I would greatly appreciate if somebody could explain this for me. gerry76 06-08-2007, 04:02 AM http://youtube.com/watch?v=S5soA-X1Hgs staticlag 06-08-2007, 06:04 PM I will take this as a chance to get one of my questions in as well. The cat is what removes the stink. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/catalytic-converter.htm MazdaJeff 06-08-2007, 10:05 PM Its insanely loud. Even in the car people always comment on how loud it is. Is the Pipe the loud part or both? shaunv74 06-08-2007, 10:24 PM straight pipe makes it loud munche187 06-09-2007, 03:14 AM I guess I will be loud does any one in the north have some extra ear muffs? lol My turboxs is almost as loud what is a canzoomer? MazdaJeff 06-09-2007, 07:27 AM straight pipe makes it loud Thanks. Just wanted to confirm. shaunv74 06-09-2007, 12:14 PM I guess I will be loud does any one in the north have some extra ear muffs? lol My turboxs is almost as loud what is a canzoomer? Canzoomer unit was the first piggyback EM unit for the RX8. It was basically a greddy emanage blue with the proper wire harnesses soldered onto it so it was plug and play. Also he sold it with some RX8 specific maps loaded. Basically to get much out of it you still had to tune it yourself. He's a vendor on the forum. You can check there for more information. You're better off getting the int-x or emanage ultimate if you want a piggyback EMS, which I assume you already have since you have a picture of the sweet sweet PEttit SC sitting in your engine bay. Targatheory 06-09-2007, 10:52 PM I get so confused with exhaust system pieces. What is the difference between a mid pipe, straight pipe, catback, cat converter, and all that jazz? Why do I see some systems using mid, and some using straight, or some are just mufflers, or without catalytic converters. Break down please. shaunv74 06-10-2007, 03:17 AM stock exhaust= cat converter+"catback" exhaust (which is muffler and associated piping) catback=pipe and muffler downstream of the cat converter. mid pipe=straight pipe=cat delete pipe=taking out the cat and replacing it with a straight piece of pipe=not emissions legal mmats69 06-10-2007, 05:06 AM its got rice written all over it Targatheory 06-10-2007, 08:12 AM Ah, thanks Shaun. So whats the difference between Racing Beat's two different systems besides the price? BlueRenesis82 06-11-2007, 12:17 AM http://youtube.com/watch?v=S5soA-X1Hgs wow, whoever did that must hate their engine...revving the shit out of while still cold? Moron shaunv74 06-11-2007, 12:33 AM Ah, thanks Shaun. So whats the difference between Racing Beat's two different systems besides the price? Their race catback is a single outlet exhaust that is louder and lighter than the REV8. They don't make many claims that it gains much more horsepower than their street exhaust but it's lighter. If you're looking for a street application the race exhaust will probably be loud and annoying for you. The mid-pipe they sell is also for race applications. It is a replacement for your Cat converter. It is also not street legal. But for racing it removes the restriction the cat. creates and frees up a little more HP and weight. Again it's also MUCH louder. My advice for a street application is get the RP supercat high flow cat and the REV8 exhaust. If you really want to go with removing the Cat then get a mid-pipe with a resonator (which Racing beat also sells). This is basically a small straight through muffler in place of the cat. that keeps the sound under control but doesn't reduce the flow very much. shaunv74 06-11-2007, 12:36 AM Ah, thanks Shaun. If you like a louder exhaust the Greddy SP2 exhaust is louder and still sounds really good. |
