Received my confirmation today from Julie so I thought I'd go ahead and get this one started. I'm really looking forward to a local event. Driving 15 miles appeals to me a great deal.

L8APEX 06-04-2007, 07:45 AM I will be there, but I will be working, hopefully out in turn 7 again.
Phlash 06-04-2007, 08:41 AM I want no more shiat about me jumping the gun posting an event......you wired freaks!!!!
L8APEX 06-04-2007, 08:50 AM :rollingla
i thought it was a bit premature, but I contributed anyway. August will be here before we know it. Besides, our threads used to start months in advance, how else will the become epic. Remember the TGPR thread, it had over 1000 posts IIRC.
Phlash 06-04-2007, 08:55 AM I'll be here driving and instructing this one..it's my second IC weekend.
SilverEIGHT 06-04-2007, 08:58 AM I'm assuming you will be driving HPDE4 then?
Phlash 06-04-2007, 09:04 AM probably 3 as well....this is seat time year for me.....
L8APEX 06-04-2007, 10:35 AM probably 3 as well....this is seat time year for me.....
such a ho.
I wish I did not need the worker credit, I would just go take pictures all weekend.
olddragger 06-04-2007, 11:08 AM well----hell yea---get to see Phlash on RA once again. I am going to follow you through turn 12 :)
Bring the portable a/c units we will need them---and make damn sure you have fresh brake fluid!!
Just installed my lotek center pod and prosport gauges---sweet setup---anyone want me to do theirs? i will not mention price as I dont want to make Silver cuss.
olddragger
SilverEIGHT 06-04-2007, 11:35 AM i will not mention price as I dont want to make Silver cuss.
olddragger
The only thing that keeps me from doing it is the money I've already spent. Thanks OD!
Phlash 06-04-2007, 12:44 PM Ok silver, I'll help your cause.....I'll give you $50.00 for that used pipe right now....just sent me your paypal info.........................:)
SilverEIGHT 06-04-2007, 01:00 PM Sorry P', I've decided to fart flames again. :)
TrackAddict 06-05-2007, 08:17 AM Is anyone planning on doing Friday as well? I am undecided still but leaning against it.
SilverEIGHT 06-05-2007, 08:30 AM I don't have the vacation days to give up. I will not be attending on Friday.
L8APEX 06-05-2007, 08:31 AM I may come out there in the afternoon on Friday, to take pictures and hang out, but won't be driving, since I am working.
SilverEIGHT 06-05-2007, 08:33 AM I can go on Friday evening to set up the EZ-Up and rope off an area if needed. L8, maybe you and I could do that.
L8APEX 06-05-2007, 08:34 AM If I get the EZ-UP from you early, i can take it up that afternoon.
TorqueAholic 06-05-2007, 10:16 AM Signed-up, actually about 1.5 months ago.. I am really considering taking the Friday off to make-up for lost time..
SilverEIGHT 06-05-2007, 10:24 AM TorqueAholic... you are an instructor, correct?
TorqueAholic 06-05-2007, 10:46 AM Correct, I followed TrackAddict's footsteps, I am instructing everywhere I go.
legokcen 06-05-2007, 06:39 PM I'll be there. Car is screaming, exhaust is flaming, brakes lock up like a boy dog, and the car will have more weight removed by the time this event rolls around. I can't wait!!! I'm in the timetrials.
Phlash 06-06-2007, 06:09 AM So what's the lodging plans?? We hangin' at the track then crashing at OMS's at night??.....................:spank:
L8APEX 06-06-2007, 06:29 AM after some discussion with Phlash yesterday, I might on an outside chance....drive RA in August. maybe, just maybe. :)
SilverEIGHT 06-06-2007, 06:38 AM L8... DO IT! Move to HPDE3.... DO IT!
Phlash! I have pleanty of parking and camping area but no beds to offer. Anyone is more than welcome to camp at my place. I don't like to camp myself. I plan to build a new house one day and there will be plenty of room for everyone. That would be an offer for everyone at every RA event.
L8APEX 06-06-2007, 06:41 AM I don't know if DE 3 is where I will be, but right now, I am just trying to work it all out. I would really prefer to drive, so we will see. Details still need to be worked out.
Especially the one about where do we stay, since Phlash will be driving, the Chateau is not going to be here. :(
MazdaratiRob 06-06-2007, 10:13 PM I will be there instructing, running TTC (maybe?) for Friday - Sunday. Hopefully, will have a new car to start shaking down by then. Getting a roll cage put in it now. Still trying to decide what the fuel system is going to be like (not stock).
In addition to the Grand-Am races at Mid-Ohio, Barber, Miller(?), and VIR, I will also be doing NASA at Mid-Ohio middle of July (rather than CMP), NASA-MidAtlantic at VIR the following weekend, and of course this event in August.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.
L8APEX 06-07-2007, 05:56 AM I will be there instructing, running TTC (maybe?) for Friday - Sunday. Hopefully, will have a new car to start shaking down by then. Getting a roll cage put in it now. Still trying to decide what the fuel system is going to be like (not stock).

it is always fun to have you out at the NASA events. we will see you and the crew soon at the Barber race for the Koni Challenge.
SilverEIGHT 06-07-2007, 06:33 AM Rob, glad you will be joining us. Look forward to seeing your new ride and set-up. Will you have graphics on it by that time?
We are becoming quite a group these days. 5 of our members are going to be instructors at this event.
dbright007 06-07-2007, 10:32 AM I am going to be there in some capacity - driving or viewing - still to far out to tell. Looks like one I shouldn't miss. Not as close as OMS - but still too darn easy to get to.
SilverEIGHT 06-07-2007, 11:46 AM You best not wait if you want to drive. I suspect it will fill up.
SilverEIGHT 06-07-2007, 11:49 AM Lego, I checked into the labels today. It's going to cost me about $40. The size you gave me, should I stay 1" in all the way around? So should I maybe make it to fit 42" x 5" MAX.
L8APEX 06-07-2007, 02:44 PM this is as good as place as any for #3000...:)
I am trying to talk some other Mazda drivers that like tracking into joining us at RA. We will see if any of them join us. :)
olddragger 06-07-2007, 04:16 PM rob you going to keep it a closed loop system?
olddragger
SilverEIGHT 06-07-2007, 06:46 PM L8, congrats on the 3K!
legokcen 06-07-2007, 08:53 PM 42 x 5 would more than likely be better since we'll be able to adjust exactly where we want it that way.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h86/legokcen/RX7/IMG_2120.jpg
Then we'll also have the option of having it above or below the trim.
SilverEIGHT 06-08-2007, 06:29 AM OK, you got it!
MazdaratiRob 06-08-2007, 09:51 PM rob you going to keep it a closed loop system?
olddragger
Thiniking about a fuel cell in the trunk. I have never been happy with what we have had to do in order to get the fuel out of the stock tanks. Plus something inherently wrong with a fuel tank in the passenger compartment using highly modified fuel system. Still trying to get approval for the changes we want to incorporate just in case we decide to register the car for Koni.
olddragger 06-11-2007, 10:46 AM thats makes a lot of sense--built in sump-- etc --hope they let you do this -- lyou would think as long as there is no"advantage" they would allow the KISS rule. Good luck on the decision.
OD
SilverEIGHT 06-15-2007, 08:28 PM OD, are you going to have any surprises for us this time?
olddragger 06-16-2007, 04:45 PM i never disappoint.
just watch --- this is going to be a good one!

OD, where do you get that checkerboard tape for your lights?
olddragger 06-19-2007, 10:38 AM hey dano--got it at summit racing or you can usually get it from a vendor during a nasa track w/e.
OD

legokcen 06-24-2007, 09:04 PM I just got a crazy idea for another RX-8 club T-shirt. Folks interested? We should be able to get it done my RoadA.
SilverEIGHT 06-24-2007, 09:19 PM Always interested in your ideas Lego.
L8APEX 06-25-2007, 06:36 AM I just got a crazy idea for another RX-8 club T-shirt. Folks interested? We should be able to get it done my RoadA.
lets see it. I always like a new RX-8 t-shirt.
legokcen 06-25-2007, 08:27 AM I was thinking front and back designs. Front pocket has a rotors/shaft on it and around it says, "Your heart beats, mine spins"
Then on the back something about the GA RX8 club or the national club.
legokcen 06-25-2007, 08:44 AM I've got some rotor/shaft images on my home computer we could use. Don, any ideas or things you want to PHotoshop up?
SilverEIGHT 06-25-2007, 01:14 PM Don, any ideas or things you want to PHotoshop up?
Yea, $100 bills! :)
Have not had time to think about it.
legokcen 06-25-2007, 03:23 PM On the back of the shirt:
http://www.autoservicepraxis.de/fm/2353/felix_wankel.jpg
"Wanna touch my Wankel?"
I can't take credit for this, but I think it's funny as hell.
olddragger 07-05-2007, 05:05 PM well as much as i hate to say this---I will not be driving this event. I am really depressed
olddragger
SilverEIGHT 07-05-2007, 06:15 PM OD, come on man! I need you here! You give me something to shoot for and I always learn neat things when you are around.
olddragger 07-05-2007, 07:32 PM Neat things? What---you mean things like my old sniper trick "if you dont want to sneeze--then dont close your eyes" (try it--it works).
Well---my wife is insisting I go---really ---right now. i dont want to disappoint her. Just signed up for hp 3. The pipes and the 17"s will be screaming
olddragger
legokcen 07-05-2007, 08:48 PM If she is insisting that you go, then you have to. Remember don't dissapoint her. "If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy!" :) Do it for her if nothing else. I know it's a sacrafice, but sometimes, you have to do that.
SilverEIGHT 07-05-2007, 09:42 PM Neat things? What---you mean things like my old sniper trick "if you dont want to sneeze--then dont close your eyes" (try it--it works).

Atta-boy! I new you cold do it! :)
SilverEIGHT 07-05-2007, 09:49 PM Lego, I have some GA RX-8 Club labels for you to put on your RX-7 if you like.
legokcen 07-06-2007, 09:08 PM Thanks man. I'd love it. The car's going to look really neat!
Different colors, but I'm going to try to get to look close to this.
SilverEIGHT 07-06-2007, 09:35 PM So, what are we doing about the Rotory logo's. Do you need help with em?
legokcen 07-06-2007, 09:46 PM I was able to get it done here. Thanks though. I can't wait to get the car done.

olddragger 07-08-2007, 06:50 PM no load coming over that hill
od
L8APEX 07-08-2007, 08:40 PM OMS, you have to tell me how you got that first one, I tried that today, to no avail. I need some instruction, you are the Jedi Master.
Great Shots, and I know TA had fun, I went and saw him this afternoon, took a few pictures, and got a ride on his last session of the day. Dude flies.
MoodDude 07-08-2007, 09:07 PM I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.
You probably have seen enough of me to last you a life time
legokcen 07-08-2007, 09:40 PM Mike, any news on the Z?
SilverEIGHT 07-08-2007, 09:47 PM Yea, what's up with the fairlady Mike?
SilverEIGHT 07-08-2007, 09:52 PM OMS, you have to tell me how you got that first one, I tried that today, to no avail. I need some instruction, you are the Jedi Master.
You are going to have to get me REAL drunk to tell you that one. :beerchug:
legokcen 07-09-2007, 06:26 AM You are going to have to get me REAL drunk to tell you that one. :beerchug:
He's going to have to get you drunk and then take advantage of you.... your photoshop skills that is.
TrackAddict 07-09-2007, 08:18 AM TA, your front camber looks very aggressive. Any changes or is that just from the load?
Front camber is -2.
TrackAddict 07-09-2007, 08:44 AM The 3 day weekend with the BMWCCA was excellent! Thanks to TA2, Silver, Dano, and L8 for showing up and hanging out for a bit. I was glad to give y'all rides.
Friday - I got to the track around 8am and did my tire swap. We had a drivers meeting at 8:30 and at 9am the track went green. I went out shortly after that. There was very little traffic as we only had instructors and some selected advanced students registered for Friday. I would guess there were about 40 cars there in total. Spread those over 6.5 hours of track time on a 2.54 mile course and you have very low traffic. TA2 showed up at lunch armed with his helmet and a sandwich for me :) He rode with me most of the afternoon and gave some some excellent coaching. He got me through turn 5 and 6 a bit faster than before and coached me to make some changes in turn 1. He felt I was entering turn 1 too fast and sacrificing exit speed because of that. I pulled back on my T1 entry speeds and got on the gas a bit earlier. I don't think I gained anything speed-wise and might have lost a bit but I gained a bit more safety. He clicked off some laps on his stop watch and we gained between 1 and 2 seconds with the best timed lap at 1:47.7 which felt pretty damn quick especially ferrying around a good sized passenger. My speed at the end of the back straight was about 4 mph less than when I was solo as a point of reference. None of my solo laps were timed. TA2 also was a valuable resource in discussing my students over the phone to better my instruction focus. Thanks man!
Saturday/Sunday - the DE was in full force. I had 2 students. BMW has 4 DE groups and an instructor group. I had a D student driving a 2003 BMW M5 and a B student in a 1988 325is. The D student had never done this before and had a lot of apprehension which he had trouble losing all weekend. I took his M5 out for the last instructor run group of the day to show him just how far from the limits he was. I must say that while I enjoyed the opportunity to drive an M5 on a race track, I was extremely cautious and kept it at 7/10s. The car's brakes were very mushy and braking from 120 or 130 into 10 was scary! You can also feel the weight of the car at corner entry as it leans over before taking a set. What is impressive is the feeling of that big V8 propelling the car when you romp on the gas. It feels like it will keep pulling and pulling. Traction control comes on very early so we turned it off after a few laps. My B student lacked consistency and I didn't make as much progress with him as I wanted. His line at first was pretty good and I fine-tuned it with him but he would either lose focus or something and not drive it consistently so it was hard to make real progress. On the plus side, we did keep it safe and on the track.
For some reason, I kept the GA RX8 Club tradition of being one of the last to leave the track on Sunday. I drove the last session of the day and wanted to let my rotors cool a bit more before swapping back to street tires. I left the track around 6pm and made it home for dinner. It was a good weekend.
dbright007 07-09-2007, 09:14 AM And just to say thanks again TA, THANKS! I've seen RA from every angle, and plenty of vids, but until you are out there, it just doesn't click (for a new guy anyway). Actually feeling the car thru the elevation changes, and seeing how blind some of those turns are at speed are a real rush.
"What wall, I don't see any wall?" :)
MoodDude 07-09-2007, 09:19 AM Having worked on the Roar cars now for the last month and a half, I haven't even touched my car. I will now change that and start gutting the monster to install a roll cage.
BTW - getting the Caster correct on the 8 will make a world of difference on track. This will allow for better road feel through the steering wheel and not having to run as much static camber. Just ask Rob, he didn't even have to push the car past 80% at Mid-Ohio to beat his lap record by 2 seconds after I got the Caster/Camber/Toe combination correct.
Mike, any news on the Z?
TrackAddict 07-09-2007, 09:51 AM Having worked on the Roar cars now for the last month and a half, I haven't even touched my car. I will now change that and start gutting the monster to install a roll cage.
So what did you do in terms of getting the engine rebuilt? Are we talking Cosworth or stock Nissan parts?
BTW - getting the Caster correct on the 8 will make a world of difference on track. This will allow for better road feel through the steering wheel and not having to run as much static camber. Just ask Rob, he didn't even have to push the car past 80% at Mid-Ohio to beat his lap record by 2 seconds after I got the Caster/Camber/Toe combination correct.
So what should the caster/camber/toe settings be?
MoodDude 07-09-2007, 11:40 AM Not a Cosworth but not a totally stock engine. Something that will be just mine.
The alignment settings for you 8 will depend highly on the track you are running. For a technical track such as Mid-Ohio or Barber:
Front Caster : 7 to 8 degrees (it is very important to ensure that both the left and right side are within a 1/4 degree)
Front Camber : -2.2 to -2.35 degrees
Front Toe: 3/32" to 1/8" toe out (make sure each tie rod length is within a 1/16" from left to right)
Rear Camber: -1.8 to -2 degrees
Rear Toe: 1/16" to 1/8" toe in
For a road coarse such with longer straight aways and low speed corners entering the long straight aways such as RA or VIR, everything the same except:
Front toe: 1/16" toe out
Rear toe: zero to 1/16" toe in.
I would not recommend running these numbers on the street unless you really don't care about tire wear.
TorqueAholic 07-09-2007, 04:53 PM TTA2 showed up at lunch armed with his helmet and a sandwich for me :) He rode with me most of the afternoon and gave some some excellent coaching. TA2 also was a valuable resource in discussing my students over the phone to better my instruction focus. Thanks man!
Thanks for the kind words, glad I could be of assistance. :) It was fun hanging out at RA, I was planning to only be there for 1-2 hours but I just had to stick around a bit more...
It was great riding with you and feeling the RX-8's (And yours) slick moves through 3-4, 10 A & B, and other corners. (Whilst reeling in a few "hot" cars like M3's and 911's )
I'll have to make one of these BMW club weekends so you can ride with me and enlighten me as well.. Perhaps we could sneek a DE3 session or 2 at this Aug event and ride together
PS MOOD, me thinks your sig has a typo, it says: "My car has more torque than yours does" Shouldn't it say "My car had more torque than yours.. " ? Just kiddin'..
Do you have an ETA as to when it'll be back on the track?
SilverEIGHT 07-12-2007, 11:59 PM 28 DAYS!
TrackAddict 07-13-2007, 06:57 AM Looks like we will be having an esteemed colleague finally joining us again on track.
L8APEX 07-13-2007, 07:12 AM Looks like we will be having an esteemed colleague finally joining us again on track.
? Chas? maybe. I need to talk to Phlash this weekend, and arrange buying his next coupon he has for RA. I gotta drive there, now that I know they smoothed out a couple areas that worried me. In March, the bump just after apex in turn 5, really upset my car, even at touring lap slow speed, I could not imagine it at full tilt. But now, I gotta. I have not really driven RA in a while.
SilverEIGHT 07-13-2007, 09:42 AM Chas... for real? AWESOME! Guess the Panoz thing is going to be a problem.
olddragger 07-13-2007, 05:11 PM now that would feel like a reunion!
silver read my post about your wheels if you are still around
OD
olddragger 07-15-2007, 08:10 PM think i may camp out for this one--not in car with tent
OD
Marietta 8 07-16-2007, 09:06 PM Howdy ya'll! Yup it's true. We will be out there in August with you and most likely at Barber in September. Don and Donna will be along too so it should be a great group. Panoz this past weekend was just great. The car was very good and worked well all weekend. Steve is MUCH more of a track addict than TA himself. You can't get him to stop for anything. I gaurantee that we could fit him with a feeding tube and catheter and just let him stay in the car and he would be happy.
I drove Don's 3rd gen and it was fantastic. I had a great session in my car with a late model Z06 that had me smiling and his stability control working overtime trying to shake me. I stayed glued to him up to turn 5 and had a nice clean exit right past him and never saw him again. Steve and I are both signed up so I'll probably bring the 8 out for exercise so that I won't be such an outlaw. I may have over 20000 miles on it by then. I can't believe that I have had that car since Aug/03 and only have that mileage on it. It'll be good to be out on the track with ya'll again and see you guys go whizzing past me.
see you soon.
olddragger 07-16-2007, 09:26 PM now this will be like old times! And the black mazdaspeed on the track again! I cant wait until he takes the inside line on exit turn 7 and blows my doors off again.
woo hoo!!
olddragger
legokcen 07-16-2007, 09:51 PM Phlash, you're driving this aren't you?
I need a roomie if that's the case.
legokcen 07-16-2007, 09:54 PM Chas, You'll have to take a look at my 1st gen and let me know all the things I've done wrong. :)
dbright007 07-16-2007, 11:29 PM Sweet. I may just camp out for this weekend. OD - we can set up tent city.
Chas, I call first dibs on a ride if I can get one!
Don and Donna are great folks. I have wanted to hook up with them again.
L8APEX 07-17-2007, 06:03 AM I am going to be working this event, got signed up to do so this morning.
Phlash 07-17-2007, 08:04 AM I'll camp with you guys......Have tent will travel......Lego, u up for it??? If not we'll work out the roomie thing......maybe add a third to keep things cheap
We'll have to work out a grill some how.........
Yes, I'm driving, doing the second (actually first) IC so will will be driving and hopefully have only one student.......been two years since I have been on this crack, oops sorry........track, so I'm gonna suck, I'll be rusty, I'm slow, yada, yada, yada.......
L8APEX 07-17-2007, 08:33 AM you are a funny guy.
I might camp it too, will have to see if I can find all the old camping gear. that sounds like fun.
legokcen 07-17-2007, 10:08 AM I still have my old backpack, tent, coleman stove, sleeping bag, etc from when I was Boy Scout. They haven't been dusted off in a long time, but they are still around... somewhere...
Phlash 07-17-2007, 11:18 AM OK, I just went out and bought a little bigger version of the grill that Val brought. Been wanting one for the camper anyway. I'm pretty sure folded, it will fit in the front seat (I'll test soon-it may be too fat with the tires in the back. I have the truck today). So, we can do Brats on Friday night (and Thursday night for those of you/us that have Friday stuff going on). WooHoo!!! Tent City!!!
L8APEX 07-17-2007, 11:20 AM camping will be cool as hell, I have not camped out in a couple years.
note to self...find old camping gear, from boy scouts...probably covered in dust, in parent's attic. hmmmm.....
OnRails 07-17-2007, 12:50 PM Maybe I'll just camp out too. Sounds like a good idea. Might have to do the hotel thing though. I made the mistake of telling the wife that the Mall Of Georgia was near the track. :)

You better be talking about arlo guthrie - if its woody, you are older than I thought! :) And no hogging of the outlet!
But I do think I will hit Target and buy one of those 20$ battery powered fans.
And I will sure to place my tent so that the bears will encounter you folks first. And then once you are asleep, I will smear some honey to make sure they look for you first.
TrackAddict 07-18-2007, 04:38 PM Hmmm - don't know about the camping bit. But, I hear there is an alleged skid pad.
valpac 07-18-2007, 06:53 PM man, Charlie in his 8, camping, brats, RA? May have to sign up for this one. You speedsters wont make fun of an old retiree will ya?
Dang, DE2 is full.

olddragger
SilverEIGHT 07-18-2007, 10:56 PM I will not be camping but look forward to the camaraderie. OD, OnRails will be joining us in DE3 I believe. I hope my new tires have half the integrity they did at CMP. Can't wait to see how the gearing works out. Especially turn 7 and what I wind up with down the hill to turn 10a.

I wish I could just take pictures, since there will be so many of you guys out on track. But i really want to drive at RR and need that one last worker credit.
L8APEX 07-20-2007, 06:04 AM OD - why not join me in TTD?
how many points did you rack up to end up in TTD, and how close were you to moving to TTC?
TrackAddict 07-20-2007, 10:39 AM how many points did you rack up to end up in TTD, and how close were you to moving to TTC?
Base class: TTD (no points assessed)
RA1 Tires: 5
Bilstein shocks: 3
RB springs: 2
RB Sway bar: 2
RB Intake: 1
RB Catback: 1
Agency crank pulley: 1
Total: 15 points with 4 to spend.
If I go to Hoosier tires, I get bumped up to TTC. I'd have to remove 1 point to stay in TTD. Same with the RB flash. That is 5 points right there.
olddragger 07-20-2007, 10:40 AM funny you should mention--i have been thinking about that. Too late for this event as I have already enrolled ---but RR in Sept--its a maybe---heck Silver could also
OD
olddragger 07-20-2007, 10:42 AM looking at the scoring system you just posted --i would be in the TTC ---i have the hoosiers --TTC would be a differant ball game wouldnt it?
Oddragger
L8APEX 07-20-2007, 10:47 AM the low TTC time at CMP was a 1:59. I had a couple laps at 2:00 flat, and 2:01 when there was no traffic. OD, and TA, you could both do TTC if you wanted. I am sure i would end up in TTC, if I ever went that far with it, since I have coilovers, and both RB bars.
TrackAddict 07-20-2007, 10:54 AM It doesn't matter if you have front and rear or just one. Bars is bars. Remember that classing is based on car speed as well. In TTC the RX8 would have its ass handed to it at Road Atlanta.
olddragger 07-20-2007, 11:07 AM yea you are right--all those m3's out there.
i just looked a little closer and here is my score
1- tires +6 (since I am only running a 225/45 which is 20mm more narrow(hehe) than stock the rules credit me with 4 points---hooray!!
2-puller +1
3 Cat back +1
4 Springs +2
5 Bars+2
6- shocks +3
intake +1
thats 16 points
I wonder how much the midpipe is in points?
So looks like I could do TTD!! Lets all do this at RR. My only problem is I have not completed a hpde 4 session. I wonder if I would be able to get around that.
olddragger
TrackAddict 07-20-2007, 12:02 PM I don't think it would matter if you have not done HPDE4 as that seems to have become the instructor group. It does allow for open passing without a pointby like TT so maybe run HPDE4 at Road Atlanta as prep for TT at RR??
dbright007 07-20-2007, 05:03 PM OD - Stock tires are 225/45 so be careful counting on those bonus points! Everybody seems to swap to the 245, but OEM is 225 IIRC.
Confirmed. I signed the Miata up. Am pretty confident it and I will be ready to go!
Really didn't want to sign up till I was sure, but I saw DE-2 and 3 are full, so jumped on DE-1 before it filled up.
Stop&TurnFreak 07-20-2007, 05:43 PM If I don't the r32 doesn't get the TT kit, guess who else will be in TTD? :)
Also, I noticed they redid the rules, when I had my Evo, it was base TTB, and with very few mods, it was TTA. Now, they have it base TTC. Comparing my times (when it was stock) to times in TTC from CMP this weekend, I would have been about +6s faster than that. My bst in a stock evo, well I had a rear sway, was a 1:53:90, but I was consistent in the 1:55's with Yokos A046's, not R's.
I can't wait till RA. I am oing to be RUSTY.

You are correct. Stock size is 225.
TrackAddict 07-20-2007, 06:26 PM TTD tire width is 245. If you run a narrower tire, you can subtract points. Running 225s allows you to subtract 4 points. That's what OD was talking about.

OD, I'm VERY comfortable an the track with these guys. I think I could do TT as well. I'm not scheduled to run RR but will be running BMP. I think I will finish this season out in DE3 then think about my options for 08.
legokcen 07-21-2007, 11:28 PM Just checked my points assessments for classing. I'll be running in TTF. +25 points. Ken will no longer win the trophy by default. He'll have to earn it this time. :)

TA lets talk at Atlanta about doing TT at Roebling. It will be a good track to start TTD on. Upon addition of all my points look like i can run with the midpipe on and still qualify for ttd. May not do Roebling if others arent going. Whats left?

In looking at your earlier post, you can run the mid pipe and gain 2 more points so you are still less than 20 total keeping you in TTD.
Phlash 07-22-2007, 05:47 PM I FINALLY got the car cleaned today up from the CMP trip. Swapped out the rear RB sway bar for the stock one (I forgot how much beefier the RB bar was than stock), replaced the front brakes that were at about 10-15% life left (rear is at 50% still). Damn, I have real brake feel again. Now onward to GTE......
Um, I'd like to see the GA group pull off a 1, 2, 3 TTx win at RA........that'd be cool
I've never been to three day event with NASA, what events/sessions do they run on Friday?
OD, I'll be at RR, L8 will be there, TA will be there, I think Silver and Dano are going...hell, I think L8 is even running in DE3 that weekend....I'll be at Barber as well.......

dbright007 07-22-2007, 09:33 PM Lego,
Dano here - you met me again this weekend at BMP. BTW - thanks for hanging out - enjoyed it alot.
As of now, alot of us are planning on camping RA. Toss up a tent and just hang out. Its pretty local for some folks, but Tent City sounded like a fun idea.
Phlash, I signed up for RA, and really want to do Barber after seeing it this weekend. RR is not out of play (want to go there too!) but have to see if I can work all 3 out.
Phlash 07-23-2007, 06:00 AM Tent city lego....tent city.......I hear there maybe a skidpad.....
From the NASA site about Friday......
We plan* to have 4 groups using the track on Friday broken into 20 min sessions. At a minimum that will provide roughly 4-5 sessions per day for each group. We are also planning** on turning on the timing equipment for the Test & Tune group and the Competition School's last two sessions.
Rough outline of schedule for friday:
1) All Hands meeting
2) Test & Tune
3) HPDE 3
4) Competition School
5) Instructor Clinic
...repeat steps 2 thru 5 with an hour break for lunch...
4:30p) Mock race at end of day for Competition School
*it Depends on sizes of the groups participating, if we have one group that is small then we might combine it with another group and you'll get more sessions.
**provided we have enough staff to man the timing equipment and take care of all of the issues related to missing/nonfunctional transponders, etc.

I want to check out those gauges you have now. I would really like to get that setup at some point. do you think they are reading accurately compared to your old mechanical gauges?
olddragger 08-01-2007, 08:57 AM these are my 1st electrical gauges. they are not as fast acting as mechanical. i have found that you have to ground the gauges separately than the senders(cant use a common ground point). once I discovered that i believe they are within the allowed percentage of correctness. they sure look cool.

Phlash 08-01-2007, 12:08 PM I guess I could bring it to GTE tomorrow (the ez-up). Will they let me leave it??? But if we think we'll be eating out, I'll leave the grill at home and bring the ez-up instead.
On a different note, is anyone else going to the Friday events at NASA RA beside me and KurtBob???
L8APEX 08-01-2007, 12:10 PM phlash, hit me up on IM.
SilverEIGHT 08-01-2007, 12:15 PM Can't make it! :icon_no2:
I'll stop by in the evening if you guys are going out to dinner. Want to do the Crossroads Grill? That's the one we've been to a few times over on Spout Springs Road & I-985. Or we could do that one Saturday night?
Phlash 08-01-2007, 12:32 PM I'm open
SilverEIGHT 08-01-2007, 12:36 PM OK, I'll drive up after work and we'll play it by ear.
L8APEX 08-01-2007, 02:50 PM i am going up early on Friday, to help stake a claim to some paddock space, and to take a few pictures of the cars on Friday, since i won't be photo ho'n it the rest of the weekend. I will have both EZ-UP's too. One for the paddock, and one for the tent city.
dbright007 08-01-2007, 03:20 PM I am going to come up on Fri before the traffic sets in.
So I am in for whatever that night.
legokcen 08-01-2007, 03:49 PM I'll try to get there mid-afternoon on Friday.
dbright007 08-01-2007, 09:58 PM Baahhhhhhh! It should be this weekend! Why is it not here yet! :Eyecrazy:

Phlash 08-02-2007, 01:43 PM 8 !!!
Phlash 08-02-2007, 02:12 PM Ok, at this risk of this going long winded...............
Did GTE this am. Found the left side of the car out on ft and r camber and a little on the toe in the rear. Enough to make right turns/sweepers interesting.....which is where the majority of my issue was at CMP...in right turns....But damn close to the settings we set the last time I went through GTE. So, we talked about the rear bar that I exchanged and some possible other things to try.....we ended up at -1.9 in the rear and adjusted the toe another 32's of an inch. We checked out all the struts and towers and everything under the car looks great!! They spent a little over an hour with me discussing some different things. I really like those guys......we also set two marks on the front toe.....one for street and one for track should i choose to crawl under to adjust them next weekend. Once again the subject came up from the guys at GTE (as here) that perhaps the rear was too stiff in lieu of the RB sway bar, MS strut brace, and the coil overs...we'll see....
Travis and I meet for lunch. He now has the second ez-up he'll bring next weekend. I am staying with him Thursday night and heading out Friday am when he heads to work. We talked and think that maybe, just for the sake of not having to bring any more shit than we have to, that I leave the grill at home. We'll all meet at the track Friday and go out to eat from there. Then Saturday night is the NASA BBQ. so, all we really need to bring is breakfast stuff, coolers, adult beverage of some sorts and treasure maps to see if we can find the alleged skid pad.
I stopped by Charlie's on the way to GTE....he says "HI". He's looking forward to next weekend, but won't be camping with us..."I camped enough as a boyscout......" He is bringing the 8 and the monster 7.
KurtBob, we'll have to figure out where to set up temp friday am...I'll have tires and crap to do before all hands. First session is at 9a.
Lego, I have a 2-3 person tent.....you are welcome to roomie (sorry took so long to reply to that).
I'm bringing a fan, a jack and the cordless impact wrench. Take a look at the track map. We need to figure out where to set up tent city. Green and brown area's are camp and RV sections. We just need to make sure we are near power.
Anything I am forgetting??

SilverEIGHT 08-02-2007, 05:44 PM I vote "Infield Camping A" because there are lots of trees for shade and you have a GREAT overlook of "The Esses" and turn 5. Plus they have good restrooms without a suprise gorilla sitting on a stinky toilet.
Marietta 8 08-02-2007, 07:09 PM Better bring plenty of skeeter repellant. As a buddy from south Ga. says " them skeeters at Road Atlanta are big enough to stand flat footed and fuck a chicken"
That's just damn big, I don't care who ya are!
Good to see Phlash man and glad to hear about new settings. I hope we can get a chance to go out together. See ya'll soon.
What do ya'll wanna bet that denny has one of those silver domed things that spins around to vent your houses attic mounted to his hood?
olddragger 08-02-2007, 08:23 PM Now you gone and spoiled it! Dang and I got the idea off of my Momma's home as i was changing it's tire.

legokcen 08-02-2007, 08:26 PM .... and treasure maps to see if we can find the alleged skid pad.
I was able to pry this away from some crazy cook at the local track. He kept muttering about some fabled "happy place" and everyone else thought he was just an old lunatic... he had a patch on his eye and everything!
Think it could be useful?

Marietta 8 08-02-2007, 08:46 PM Well why would you want to camp down there so close to the .............skidpad? You can't set up a tent on asphalt that is used for a SKIDPAD. Bring squirtguns.
TrackAddict 08-02-2007, 09:20 PM ...them skeeters at Road Atlanta are big enough to stand flat footed and fuck a chicken
I totally don't know what that means but I wont it.

Stop&TurnFreak 08-02-2007, 09:52 PM Well, work has reared it's ugly head again, and I am going to have to be on location for a show. THAT SUCKS, because in practice this past week we got down to 1:45's on new RA1s. I was working on a set of BFGs which are consistenly 8/10 faster per second of track time. That would have put the car down to solid 1:44's. The owner said with me driving he felt it could have done more.
Oh well, no worries, that was the bad news, now for the good news. I got to drive his TT Z06 Lingerfelt Vette. On a BAD tune, the thing was still freakin in credible. 150mph was as easy to achieve as 40mph in my Evo, NO LIE. I have never felt power like that. I hope he considers letting us run it at one lap this year, provided Penske is done with the suspension. :)
Kurt Bob 08-02-2007, 10:33 PM I am just doing the Friday instructor clinic. Therefore...I will plan on helping to set up tent city and then going to dinner with the gang Friday night (and participate in any other festivities). Then I guess I will camp out and leave on Saturday sometime.
I hope the weather will be conducive to the aforementioned activities. Silver, don't you have some kind of dance you will do before next weekend?

Phlash 08-03-2007, 09:33 AM "A" it is then......i will head up there with KurtBob Friday am. I have a camping lantern i will bring.
Stop&TurnFreak 08-03-2007, 12:00 PM shhhhh! Secrets, got to have some secrets. I wasn't doing it, the owner was tuning the coil-overs. He got down to the 1:48's on street tires (Azenis) and then got down to 1:45's on RA1's. Although I felt he would be faster than me, he felt the opposite. Answer would be Road A.

I try to check mine once or twice a year. It doesn't hurt, and it just makes sure everything is working together. You don't want to be squirrely like Phlash was when you are at RA. When I had mine checked before CMP, my whole drivers side was off, toe was a little out too.
olddragger 08-04-2007, 10:20 AM Let me find the wife's credit card----Honey.........:)
Well-- best be making an appointment then---may just drop by and see ole charlie also while I am up that way.

SilverEIGHT 08-04-2007, 11:33 AM OD... are you wedging you hood at the hinges for cooling?
olddragger 08-04-2007, 09:37 PM ok guys i will fess up.
The engine bay cooling thingy i have done goes like this:
1- remove the rubber seal on the cowl assembly. It is on with just some plastic retainers. Comes off in about 10secs and you can replace it if you ever want too.
2- there are options here, but the next step is to make a spacer, thick foam, self adhesive felt etc that you can get from Home Depo/Lowes etc. Place a approx 1 inch long and 1/2 to 3/4inch thick strip on the middle part ( a little lateral of each windshield washer nozzle)of the cowl where you removed the rubber sealant strip. Thats the easy option.
What I ended up doing was getting some elevator bolts from Lowes and gluing a thin rubber disc to it's broad top. Then i used a nut that was screwed all the way up on the bolt. I then placed a bolt like this into each of the holes on the cowl where the plastic retainers were. The I used another nut on the bottom of the bolt. That way they are adjustable , if needed, looks much more pro and sturdy.
This little mod reduced my surface temps on my coils packs by 10degrees.I monitored many other temps (yall know how I am!) and this mod does help some.
Hood stays with stock alignment on the fenders and the front.
I will bring stuff to ATlanta to do one.
Questions/comments?

If you ask Rob to bring the camber/caster gauge with the ROAR truck, I'll be happy to string your car for you. Or if anyone else has a gauge while we're there we can do it. We can string it, get very precise measurments and do the alignment at the track, or make changes depending on your tire temps and feel of the car.
Let me know if you want to do this. I'll put 4 cinder blocks in my tow vehicle and we can raise your car up, string it, and make measurements where it is. Takes about 1-2 hours to do it right. We'll be able to do caster, camber, and toe without any issues.
The string is for a very accurate toe measurements, we can do the other two without string, but tow is very important.

I think Toe is more important than tow :spank:
Wow Lego, are you going to have enough time to drive, instruct, and do everyones alignment? I wonder if everyone will win their HPDE session after you align it:) ?
It is now offical, I will be moving to the West Coast now. As a final good bye, I will be driving Sebring in October w/ Chin than Barber w/ NASA.

I just went through my GTE (old) alignment receipts etc. I didnt even know what i had.
hell I am running only 1.4 up front and 1.8 in the rear.

OnRails 08-06-2007, 10:09 AM Gotta be a kit.....Unless the drivers name is Jay Leno.
I should be there Friday afternoon to set up camp. I'm taking the afternoon off from work. It's about 3 hours down there from my house.
legokcen 08-06-2007, 10:20 AM Also another really cool car -- according to the driver's list, there is going to be a 1987 Mazda RX-8 there. I'd like to see that one. They confused Charlie's 2 cars I guess.
