I've been reading through the June 07 Sportcar magazine and I ran across a portion of the "Through the Ringer" article that was quite interesting. On page 28, in the inset article titled "Prosolo in 2007 and beyond", the writer suggests that SCCA is designing a christmas tree timing light which could be sent out to local events....I'm wondering if they were referring to autocross events.

from the actual article:

"The plan for 2007 is to offer more autocrossers the chance to compete in a Prosolo while drumming up interest in regions holding local Prosolo events in the future. 'The Christmas tree we're having designed and built will be one that we can ship to regions and then can hook it into their normal timing systems. Autocrossers can have some of the fun of Prosolo with the drag race starts and reaction times-and it'll help us develop a farm system which Prosolo needs,' explains Duncan. "We're trying to build a good customer base with folks who can try [Prosolo] out at a less stressful level and when the full Prosolo comes to town they can give that a shot."

Anyone else recall reading that article, or hear things from other racers about possibly bringing a christmas tree light to local autocross events. Given that we have a Prosolo in our region (at El Toro), would Cal Club be one club possibly getting this timing light in the future?

Its a long way off from local events. The software needs to be ironed out at National PS first. The WR PS is evidence that more debugging is still needed.

I was at the Prosolo event this year at El Toro, CA....and from what I heard from many people at the event, it was the timing issues that kept the event from running smoothly.

In the link that you provided, it looks like timing issues have been problems for quite some time...and maybe inviting those problems into the local autocross events would be a headache beyond the excitement of having that christmas tree start.

Thanks for the link.

Yeah, it takes a lot of work to put on a Pro... but we have had local Pro Solo practices using a tree setup that Jay Woodruff created (the guy w/ the orange Dakota). We had one a couples years ago here in SD. It's definitely do-able locally, it just takes people to agree on it and someone to handle all the timing issues (which are a PITA).

If they are going to send out the Pro tree for local use, are they going to stick DiSimo in the box? :lol2:
