Probably the cuteness of a Miata is what drove him to label it a chickcar. Also, the red Mini Cooper is a chick car, as as mentioned the red Beetle. Also, black Maxima and silver G35 are big chick cars, as well as yellow Hummers, in addition to certain Eclipse models.

There's something difficult to name that draws females to some vehicles like ants to cookies, flies to poop, or leeches to blood.

umm, not so good analogy. the elise is less than 2000 lbs, and has something like 190 hp. shaveing 400-500 lbs AND adding 60 hp means there's no comparison. also, take into account how the elise handles vs the 3rd gen mr2...

Kane said it best - when styling precedes performance - no amount of styling would effect the elise - i think it's ugly, but i'd still get one b/c of its performance.

Now if the 8 was a more "conventionally" powered car I would agree. But the fact that the 8 requires more attention to details and NEEDS to be driven hard (at least once in a while) negates any "chick car" points.

I disagree. A car can't be considered a chick car just because there's a higher powered version of it. The base model Mustang is a (relatively) cheap rear-wheel drive coupe -- something 90% of the people on this forum clamor for constantly. Just because someone doesn't want to drop the coin for a GT doesn't prove anything. Maybe they wanted a 15.3 sec 1/4 mile car for $20k -- nothing wrong with that. By your logic a Porsche 911 is a chick car because there's a 911 Turbo. If anything, the word you're describing is poseur car -- not chick car.

The only possible definition has to be a car that is owned primarily by females. People who try to use the term to designate cars that are more about style than performance are incredibly narrow-minded and hypocritical. Every single person on here talks about how ugly the Evo is compared to the 8 because that's the ONLY thing the 8 does better than the Evo. Yet, somehow because the 8 meets the "minimum" requirements for performance in your eyes it's not considered a chick car.

chick car is just any car with a significantly higher than normal ratio of female drivers, a lot of sporty cars falls into that category because chicks tend to dig sporty looking cars.

i agree on what was said about the posers with H3s and other cars like that. I love the H1 of course because thats military hardware, the H2 is pretty sweet and I wouldnt mind having one (if someone just GAVE Me one) and I was rich for the gas.

A chick car is a car that is primarily driven by chicks, period. A chick car can be fast, handle well, be very capable offroad, ugly, or anything . . . but it every damn time you see one, it's a chick behind the wheel, it's a chick car.

The Hummer H3 is a great example of this. It might be able to tow a boat and plow over rocks and ford rivers--but you only see them in the suburbs, being driven by women. Chick car.

V6 auto Mustangs. I swear to God that every fake-tan, dyed-blond chick in the world who graduated HS the same year as me got a brand new silver V6 auto Mustang from Daddy. In my time at Michigan State, I would say approximately 87% of all cars on campus were sliver V6 auto Mustangs driven by chicks.

Sunfires. Now here's where it gets tricky. My dad bought me a Sunfire as a surprise Christmas present (my '91 Civic had more problems than my wallet could fix at the time). I quickly realized that EVERY OTHER SUNFIRE IN THE WORLD was driven by a girl, usually with a pink feather boa steering wheel wrap or some heinous shit like that.

I agree...no matter how the car performance, if the car has more female cues e.g SLK320 it will attracting more female buyers.

That being said I was trying very hard to get the SLK32 AMG but the asking price was ridiculous so I bought the 8 instead.


I guess then it all comes down to what one perceives as feminine and masculine. Some cars may outright look feminine e.g Beetle but some may get blurry like the new MX-5... and I guess that's where it gets argumentative.

Also please don't confuse this with Auto vs Manual... IMHO there is no such thing as Auto RX8 is a chick car whereas M/T is man's car..If a car is a chick car its a chick car regardless of tranny..

I get that a lot of girls drive V6 Mustangs (especially convertibles), but the base price of the V8 Mustang is 33% more than the V6 Mustang. That is a HUGE difference. If someone wants a rear-wheel drive car for cheap, it's a really good buy.

very funny. for the record, i'm not a "noob" - i have an '04 and i've been around rx8club.com for a couple years - just because my post count isn't in the thousands doesn't make me a noob.

secondly - in hough2696 's defense - "performance" is all relative. i came from a '99 civic, so yes ... I personally bought the rx8 for performance. just because there are other cars out there that may perform better than ours does not mean it's reasonable to think an rx8 buyer doesn't care about performance...

I've driven a minivan. Even dusted a Porscha in it. Admittedly it was my mom's and I had just taken it with me for my 2nd half of college until I chose a car (got a CL Type-S). Actually, all things considered that mini-van could corner pretty well. It was fun feeling like I was in a speeder bike chase every time I had to take on on/off ramp. Boing-a-boing-a-boing.

I did know one guy who drove a Saturn. At the time it was pretty good if not one of the best in it's class. It was a manual. Damn good driver. Not only that he makes Odd-job look whimpy and his wife is model quality. Both work in the medical profession make significant money.

Oh did I mention he has a life size Han Solo in Carbonite on his wall.

Agreed on the V6 stangs. They are just slugs out of the hole and the only people who buy them are for the image. I'm not a fan of V8 stangs because they are all over the road when they handle as well, but that's another story. The Rousch group takes care of the new mustang quite well though...

happened to me 30 mins ago:
i was picking up food at in n out and saw a dropped, black, one of the nicest rx8s i've seen. i was gonna go through the drive thru window but decided to go in to see if i could find the driver. i parked right next to it and thought it would be better to just wait a couple of minutes for the driver to come out instead of going inside in n out, looking like a jackass and screaming "who drives the black rx8?". while i was waiting, i decided to smoke a marlboro light. right when i light it, i look up and a hot ass, import tuner model looking girl, (maybe half asian half white), approaches me and asks me if i had an extra one. so i give her one and she started asking what i had in my car. i told her it was pretty much stock etc etc. and said that i wanted my car to look like the rx8 next to mine. IT ENDED UP BEING HERS! i thought she approached me because she thought i was cute, so that somehow bursted my bubble. but the best part about her rx8 was it had the cf kd burnout front lip. shes knows her shit! her engine was stock but her suspension was modded. jic front and rear sway bars, tein coilovers WITH the computer. of course one of my first questions was whether or not she was a member of this forum. her reply was an unfortunate no. i needed her to confirm my story to all of you guys. =). when she left, i thought about this thread. i wouldn't mind people saying that the rx8 is a chick car if women that drove rx8s fixed up their rx8s like this one. and i don't mind at all that she was a perfect 10. i hope this doesn't make me sound like a sexist, because i'm not. i just get a little bit offended when people say that the rx8 is a chick car because to me, saying that it's a chick car ranks it with beetles, cabriolets, and jettas.

It has been many years since I've seen anyone other than a hispanic male driving a Del Sol. About the only people I see driving Celicas are little spikey haired white dudes and the same goes for the TC for the most part. Also, I see almost all males driving the 3 series, it's ultimate "look at me, I want people to think I have money but it's just a lease and I live in an apartment" kind of car. Lastly, I don't get the Civic one, that's just about the most diverse owner base I can think of.
