my friend just got the new BMW 335i--crazy fast--any way thats not the point. I noticed in his car, as in many new cars he has the ability to play mp3 cd's in his car (usually they have around 20-100 songs, and can probably fit more). Does anyone know whether the 8 supports mp3 cd's. I have the bose system. Thanks

There is an aftermarker part that is a replacement cd player that allows you to do this. The part # i believe is GJ6B-79-AGXB

Nope. The stock RX8 stereo doesn't play MP3's. Ridiculous that it doesn't actually.
My Scion xB does.

You can install a single MP3 disc player or add an IPOD adapter

This part is not aftermarket, it's an actual Mazda RX-8 accessory. They are in the accessory catalogue (http://www.oakvillemazda.com/Brochures/RX8_Accessories.pdf). It has some limitations as an mp3 CD player (compared to aftermarket decks), but is a simple stock upgrade. You can get by without buying the faceplate.
Try and search mcgregor, you will find many threads on it. example (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=7644)

I upgraded to the MP3 unit for my RX-8 and it rocks! Not too hard of an install either, it can easily be done on your own.
