ok, so i was in my friends camaro ss (AT mind you) and he let me drive it to the store and then after getting back out he told me that he would show me how he drives. NOW, i know that his car has had some engine trouble lately but what he did next pretty much astonished me. he proceeded to floor it in Park all the way to the redline and bounce at it there for at least 4 seconds. then he backed up and foot braked it leaving a trail of smoke behind us. long story short, it was totally awesome and now i want to do it in my 8. but im a little leery of doing it simply because my car isnt a torn up crappy camaro with engine problems. (his engine problems do not stem from him doing these things either or so he says.)

Go ahead...just dont post about how your tranny shattered or when you fry your clutch packs...your friends torn up camaro is torn up for a reason...stupidity mainly...

i dont doubt it, its just i was wondering if anyone has tried it and NOT had any problems. thanks for the reminder about the clutch packs.

that is gonna cause a problem. there is a big reason no body tries it.

Why would you trash your drive train for some smoke, unless you have deep pockets?

Do it and get back to us after your tranny explodes ;) lol.. as you said his crapero is dying and the way he treats it is definatly the reason why. That and I hardly know of any AT owners buying the car for burnout competitions lol

Is foot braking the same as doing a brake stand?

I did a short brake stand with my car at a stop light because my friend in his minivan next to me said he was going to squeal his tires. (unfortunately his wife was next to him and convinced him not to... :lol2: ).

I said like this... and found that it doesn't take much.

Wait why is this in AT specific performance mods?

ha, i love all of your responses. dont worry, im not going to do it. mainly because it will destroy my transmission. ill just convince my friend to let me do it in his camaro.

I thought he was the one that created it.

Wait,
Does he floor it with the transmission in park and then throw it into drive? Cause wow that can’t be good. Or did he just redline it in park a bunch and then do the power brake launch?
I have seen many people power brake by putting the AT in drive, holding down the brake pedal, revving to 3k, and dropping the brake pedal and producing the same effect. I think that is what you are referring to, but with redlining it instead. I have only seen this done in 220ish hp V6 cars, and it resulted in a monster burnout. I can't imagine what redlining a torquey American V8 would do to the driveline.

YES thats exactly what he did! a power brake! and yeah he redlined it in park too. and yeah it was one hell of a burnout for the V6.

I think I last did this when I was 16. Damn, that was '81!

IT was 1986 when I did my last Powerbrake in a 79 Lebaron that had a worked Mopar 340 V-8. The cloud of smoke was incredible. The friends were all cheering. The tire marks lasted for months. It also took months to earn the $600 back I had to spend to repair the damage done to my car. Gear oil leaked past the axle seals and entered the brake drums. That lesson and the price of tires these days have made that the last burnout I ever did.
