Who's in?
Linkie (http://www.scca.com/Event/Event.asp?IdS=1CBB56-3E36B90&Id=6380)

Looks like we're going to have a "special guest appearance" by a certain west coast B Stocker. :)

Should be interesting.

It was like pulling teeth to get ULLLLLLLLOSE to tow 200 miles to run at Atwater, yet he'll go 3000 miles round trip to run in Houston? OK...that makes sense :cwm27:

Must have either a co-drive or something else going on...

SEB meeting Mon-Tues in Houston. :Freak_ani We have always wanted to go, but it is more of a drive than Topeka, now I have to be there so it was an easy choice. Bad part is even driving the car rather than towing I am looking at $500 for gas.

You going to bring the motor home down pick up the car and haul it out there and back for me on your dime? :)

Somehow this does not sound like a good deal for me.... Let you drive the 2 time championship winning car for some gas money while I do all the work and spend two days on the road each way. :icon_no2: Oh no... It would cost you big time to get in that seat.

OK, I fly to John Wayne, help you drive out and pay for gas on the way...then, I fly out Sunday, 'cause I ain't sticking around for no SEB meeting...

Nope. I've got a little problem with owning more homes than I want and have to work on some stuff around that this weekend.

I plan on running the Oakland SCCA event on Sunday morning.

I'll be there. Supposed to have a tire warmer already...

Too bad we don't have a Pro for ULLLOSE to play in. :(

I guess we'll just have to show him some Texas hospitality instead.

I was just poking the Streldoc on email that he should co-drive with you.

I was not going to stick around for the Pro anyway. I am tired of them and I hear the Mineral Wells site is a POS.

You should convince him to let me drive his car...I mean his wife's car... :lol2:

I don't think you guys will have much problem with the special guest. After all, he got beat by Barbara yesterday. :uhh:

Oh, and for fun I asked Jason if I could co-drive his car in Houston. He said "Yeah, sure, $50 and your in". I guess he's got something against mwood. :mdrmed:

You need to work on your math. Or is it she gets to count all eight runs and I only get four?

Can you believe I beat mwood with those some crappy tires in Atwater. :lol2:

No I said if you drive the car out you can run for free. :)

heh...he said exactly the same thing about swapping tires...

nope, he's just old and gets confused easily. :spank:

We did that in 2003, Jennifer ran Kumhos and I was on Hoosiers. Even being in different heats all those extra tire changes sucked.

So with only 160 cars will we get fun runs?:D:

Course maps are up!!! (http://houscca.com/solo/courses.asp)

Day 1:

http://houscca.com/solo/courses/NT07_day1.gif

Day2:

Looks like Roger Johnson has designed a couple of really entertaining courses! Notice that (unlike Walnut Ridge  ) the course is actually quite different on Day 2!

Both courses are run the same direction both days and a number of the turns are reused both days. I am a little surprised that it was done that way. I have never been disappointed by one of Rogers courses and I am sure this will be a fun one, but I am disappointed to see we will run a number of the same turns in the same direction.

edj
05-14-2007, 03:23 PM
Roger has been re-using parts of the Day 1 course on Day 2 for years.
Very few of these re-used turns are entered exactly the same way on Day 2.
Looking at the maps, 3 of the 4 slaloms are the same but none of the big
turns/sweepers are the same.

I don't think you'll be disappointed... :)

Hoosiers certainly don't look like too much of a liability. Anyone know which HoHo's are being run?

Jason's probably sweating it...he's right where the 2nd and 3rd place guys want him...:spank:

Forget what the results show I think the only guy on Hoosier is EDJ, Baker and Wagner are both on 245 V710s.

Bummed I did not speed up at all but I think I got the Pace award for sat.

So, no Hoosiers in the top 3, huh?

I just looked at the day one results and it was nice to see my old SS friend, Lance, leading the way in the old school Z06...over Erik in a GT3? I guess his 3 rotor beast ate a transmission?

Anyhow, as I sit here, between practice tests for a real estate exam I have to take on Monday, I'm more than just a little envious of everyone (all 190 or whatever the pathetic turnout ended up at) who is getting to play at the National Tour event!!!

Do good tomorrow, ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOSE, and all the rest of the RX8 posse :)

Looks like Jason put the smack down on the rest of the field today... and my buddy Sean pulled a Sipe with massive cone carnage both days in SS:

Wow, it looks like Jason was flyin' today...after a pretty middle of the road PAX effort yesterday, today's gonna move him waaaaaay up on the index...if you're in to that kind of thing...anyway, congrats ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOSE:)

Also, my pal Lance Adams hung on to win SS, running the Z06 against Streldoc in a borrowed GT3...awesome! :)

Yeah, Jason laid the smack down today, straight-timing A Stock and laying up a time that would have trophied in Super Stock on today's course. :Eyecrazy: Congrats to him on a well-earned victory.

BTW, edj was the only RX-8 pilot on Hoosiers (245s). The rest of us were on 245 Kumhos, even though they've still got me listed on Hoosiers in the results. The pathetic thing there is that I watched Doug Gill come over and verify the tires on every single B Stock car after Jason pointed out the discrepancy in Saturday's results.

One interesting data point from the weekend: I was curious to see if Baghead's claim about the weight difference between Base and Sport model cars was true, so we weighed Jason's car ('05 Base, Konis, 245 Kumhos, 1st gen lightweight SSRs, Mazdacomp front bar) and mine ('04 Sport, Konis, 245 Kumhos, 1st gen lightweight SSRs, stock bar). Both cars were in race trim, and mine was maybe a gallon lighter on fuel than Jason's. His weighed in at 2845 lbs, and mine was 2849 lbs. With the difference in fuel levels you could call it a ten pound difference, maybe fifteen tops.

I guess the Sport package isn't 40 pounds heavier after all. :)

Maybe the auto front bar is lighter?

Just added up my gas bill... Better than I thought it would be, $508.35. :uhh: High for the trip was 3.89 and low was $3.19 for super. Cool thing is TX has 93 oc. :)

Got about 22 mpg avg with ac on, best tank was 24 and worst was 20. Only used 1/2 qt of oil for almost 3200 miles and 12 autox runs.

east & mid TX has 93 octane, it drops to 91 octane once you get above a certain elevation in the western part of the state

and desolate TX interstate west of San Antonio (I-10) is 80 mph during daylight hours, the one thing that does suck there is the night speed limit drops 5 mph over the daylight limit

Gets the same. :dunno: MPG has not been a big issue for us and we do not seem to use much oil. When we ran the track day I think I used half as much oil as mp5 in his 2004.

How does it feel? Well like a big fat Miata, just like when we got it. :icon_no2:

My RX8 also doesn't burn much oil...at least not as much as I was led to expect!

MPG isn't bad, compared to my Winnebago, but is ridiculous for a car of the RX8's capabilities. :banghead: Unfortunately, the gas mileage may prove to be too much for the rotary to overcome in the marketplace, longer term...which is too bad, they are interesting motors. I still prefer a pushrod V8, though;)
