View Full Version : Rx8 meet the RD6
RotoRooter 09-23-2003, 09:57 PM What a rip off. The Frankfurt Auto Show had a Jaguar concept to be produced in 2005/2006. It is an Rx8. Complete with rear hinged back doors. Same weight, very similar styling. Thanks Ford! Hopefully they will make a good copy car!
BTW: 3000 miles 17mpg
Only one I have seen on the road . . . except a black one in Miami. Overall very happy 8/10.
NEWS FLASH! The RX-8 is not the first car to have suicide doors. Subaru has had a concept for quite some time with suicide doors and then there's saturn and many cars before that.

RotoRooter 09-23-2003, 10:16 PM Hey Ike,
This is an RX8 !!!!!!!!!! It is not a subaru or a saturn dude.
Look at the Frankfurt Auto Show pics, or the MSN Auto posting -- they even say it is "inspired" by the rx8 .
Ford = Mazda = Jaguar Saturn/Subaru have no relation!!
Ok I get where you're coming from... any links? Usually posts like this include a link or a pic, so people such as myself won't make an ass out of themselves by jumping to conclusions when little info is given, sorry for the confusion :p

I thought you were used to that Ike? :p
(Sorry Ike, I couldn't resist..hehe)
mikeb 09-24-2003, 01:54 AM someone posted pics in general auto of this concept
TomsterRX8 09-24-2003, 08:27 AM Pics are in another thread. Looks really good but I may prefer the RX8 front end over the Jag's. I love the Jaguar emblem over the Flying M emblem, however.

JAGUAR RD6
MattFast 09-24-2003, 11:56 AM Dude, you should realise how many concept cars have/had those doors! It's not like Mazda came with it first with the RX Evolv...

It's not just the doors, the shape of the body is very similar to the 8
rotarymotory 09-24-2003, 12:56 PM Relax, life's not fair. Mazda doesn't "own" this platform. Ford does. And they spent A LOT of money developing it. They didn't make that investment just so Mazda could sell 20-30,000 sweet little RX-8s. The platform will be used in other models and in other divisions. To see what I mean take a look at the new Mazda 3, the next Ford Focus and the new little Volvo. They are all the same car. At Frankfort Ford even displayed them side-by-side. At this point Ford is just letting the world know they are all about efficiency and ROI. No more T-birds.
And it's not a "rip-off". Mazda just got to come to market first. And no one's talking regarding the true engineering origins. I suspect it was a group effort driven by higher corporate goals. It's a nice tight and light platform that is probably very flexible(in terms of usage) and modular. No contemporary automotive engineer would be caught dead doing anything less.
It is impressive and a very rare experience to be able to own a car that is so new from an engineering perspective. I beleive it is one of (if not THE) most sophisticated platforms on the road. Especially when you consider price.
It is my understanding that apart from the trany and differential, virtually everything else on the 8 is new to the real world. Enjoy it. It's a distinction that won't last long. Maybe twelve months.
I'm certainly enjoying mine.

4thGen 09-24-2003, 06:18 PM Has it actually been stated that the Jag is using the RX-8 platform? It could very easily be another Ford platform
zoom44 09-24-2003, 06:29 PM actually if you read the thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10741) from a few days ago and follow the links, one of them mentions that it is on a modified xj platform or something like that. also people at jag said it wouldn't be built but that things from it will start showing up on oter jag cars, and that it shows the direction jag will be heading in.
Different platform, different engine, and different body, man you guys are getting ripped off :p
