So hit a huge dog on the freeway doing about 80mph.
Blood everywhere
The smell!!!!! YUCK!!!!!
O2 sensor . . . . . . gone
Cat converter . . . . .toast

MY REAL QUESTION ;
Those 2 support brackets that are below( just behind ) the Cat and resonator . . are they important? Are they just there to protect the exhaust system? cuz they're gone. ripped right out of the frame(underbody metal)

I will try to get pics tomorrow

Sigh shit like that happens - but at that kinda speed the only consolation would be that death would have been instant.

I don't think the two braces under the exhaust are all that essential, I would still try and obtain two more but when I removed my stock midpipe they didn't even touch the braces. I think they are there to prevent the midpipe from "falling" out. I'm really not completely sure on this issue so if someone has better insight, please post away!

poor dog.............

I'd worry more about your 02 sensor being gone than the brackets.

Those braces are for structural integrity...you need them to prevent chassis flex...you should scour the junk yards for replacements or pull the ones you had out of the organic frizzbee you smeared on the highway...sorry to hear about what happened...thats a dog-gone shame...heh

wow, that must suckass, for you AND the dog, and yes, I would recommend you replace that O2 sensor first, that shit is essentia, and how the hell did the CAT get screwed up by a dog?

They are extremely critical and you should not drive the car without them there at the exact alignment specs set by the factory.

please dont' post pics unless you've cleaned the under carriage of your car. I'm pretty sure those parts are important.

Did you call your insurance company because you hit a car at 60 mph.

The speed limit on the 15 freeway is 70. So according to my insurance , I was hit by flying debris (comp) that I could not avoid while traveling at 70mph. As opposed to hitting (collision) something on the freeway.
Here is the wierd part . . ; the animal control van pulled off the road right in front of me, so I could not get his truck number. But the dog jumped out of the kennel truck, and was on his side by the time I hit it.

I have already cleaned the undercarriage. But it bent the heck out of one support and tore the other one out on one side. How important are those braces? one is right behind the catalytic converter, the other is farther back by the resonator. Am I dealing with a frame issue, or are they there just to keep the exhaust system from falling out?

It would not be hard at all to find out what truck it was... those animal control officers have specific areas they patrol. Call them up and send them a bill

As I said before . . the truck got off the freeway in a hurry. Right about the time i was asking myself ; " Why is that truck crossing 3 lanes to get off the freeway in such a hurry? maybe he . . " bam

Ouch, that hurts...poor dog, I mean car. Hope your passenger is ok. Last time I was hit on the Hwy at 65, my wife was freaked out for the rest of the 3 hr drive.

I'm not so sure if that's under comp. My insurance said if I hit anything at all, it's collision (Oh, I know. And they gave me $50 more than the max payout w/o affect my rate, so they can jack me $400 over the next 3 years. Aholes). Comprehensive will cover hit and run though, so unless you file it as the dog hit you and die :) Come to think of it, my brother did hit a deer and it was covered under comp, so I guess it depends on your insurance company.

as long as IT HIT YOU, it was un avoidable . . it is comp
and since the dog was still moving when we met . . it is comp. . . I hope
still no word ofrom the animal control in that city.

That lower plastic piece is toast. but the radiator is fine. O2 sensor is ripped out, cat converter looks okay, as long as a new O2 sensor will thread in to it. 2 frame braces are badly damaged. Both are held in by 4 bolts. One is bent bad, the other is ripped out on one side. I mean RIPPED out. pulled the bolts right out through the metal subframe . . torn metal.

Not surprising ...

rglbegl
04-25-2007, 06:38 PM
so animal services claims it was a coyote.
uh . . . okay
but the 2 cross members are off now. I am hunting them down. The cat is thrashed where the O2 sensor goes in to it. I am hoping the cat is not bad.
Hopefully a little welding . . .a couple new cross members . . and a new O2 sensor and I am good.
Or my insurance company said I could make a claim, pay my $100 deductable and get a whole new exhaust system . everything behind the headers :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

This is what I was told as well. I hit an already dead Wombat and tore one of the cross members. Mazda Australia told me it was there to prevent the driveline from dropping if it "came off". SHould be good in the short term but I would be wanting it back.

That dog didn't leave a pair of shoes behind, right?

Vinegar rinse followed by soap and water wash will reduce burnt puppy smell
