Which is un common with cars prototypes and concepts nowadays. Sure you like the door handles and mirrors from the first one though. Mazda man 11-01-2002, 03:50 PM The ickle Rx-8 logo on the grille is a cool finishing touch but I dont like the new wing mirrors:( m477 11-01-2002, 03:58 PM Is it just me, or does the original concept car look the best? - The concept front end looks sleek and nice, the others are uglier - The concept side mirrors have the turning signals on them and they don't have black on them - The concept wheels are the best, the others look like Saab wheels, since the spokes get wider towards the rim When I first saw the car in early 2001, I really wanted one, now I'm not sure. With the 350Z, the production version was an improvement over the concept, but with the RX-8 I think it got uglier. PoLaK 11-01-2002, 04:21 PM its just u......... the concept looks very tacky and plasticy compared to the production or maybe its just me  Grimace 11-01-2002, 04:23 PM I need to see more pictures of the new car before I decide, but I think I like it best (save for the side mirrors). karmavore 11-01-2002, 04:58 PM Yup, the more time passes, the uglier it gets. The concept was awkward enough, but now the car is just a mishmash of lines and ideas. I'm out. Luke. Jerome81 11-01-2002, 05:28 PM The side markers are the worst IMHO. The mirrors aren't too bad, yeah they were cooler with the indicator and they had a less "heft" to them. But the way they slapped the side marker where it is looks pretty bad. I think it would look better with the standard oval on the side somewhere, if they have to have it all at all. Donny Boy 11-01-2002, 06:28 PM Personally, the middle car is best mostly because the wing mirrors on the latest model look big and bulky, something massive and out of character with the lithe RX-8. I hope Mazda rethinks the "too big" mirrors and reverts to the ones in the middle picture. PoLaK 11-01-2002, 06:55 PM guys the us isn't getting the side turn indicators they are euro-spec come from sources most high. bwayout 11-01-2002, 07:24 PM Hey let's not forget the one that started it all ... the RX-evolv http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?postid=13252 I actualy like the front end lights and grill/air intake of the evolv ... But I also love the new RX-8 aggressive styling :D plus the higher placement of the side mirrors ... but I'm sure that funtion and cost played a big part in the final design outcome Originally posted by Styjan Side by side of previous versions http://home.attbi.com/~w.vark/rx-8prog.jpg bwayout 11-01-2002, 07:33 PM I also liked the first version RX-8 front hood vents - maybe that might be offered on a "speed" version Toadman 11-01-2002, 08:51 PM Remember mirrors must fold flush against the body for ocean vessel transport. Every inch/centimeter counts, and it may have been a factor, besides sturdiness or vibration-dampening. BryanH 11-02-2002, 12:13 AM Originally posted by Toadman Remember mirrors must fold flush against the body for ocean vessel transport. Not necessarily. :) I work at a Toyota dealership and often when we get new cars fresh off the truck, their side mirrors are in plastic bags in the passenger seat. Part of the dealer prep on these cars is to attach the mirrors. :) MattFast 11-02-2002, 06:35 AM I still prefer the taillight of the RX Evolv. And also the interior and the door-opening-things Spining Ncnratr 11-02-2002, 10:22 AM Originally posted by bwayout I also liked the first version RX-8 front hood vents - maybe that might be offered on a "speed" version Possably aftermarket. Thats what I'm hoping for. wakeech 11-02-2002, 12:57 PM i'm with grims, i really like the aggressive styling over the smooth concept... the deeper ducts, and more sharply profiled lines on the hood and wheel arches really bring a head turning look to the car, although i miss the louvers (on the hood) too :( i have to agree that the more streamlined mirrors are pleasing to the eye, but i don't have any gripes with the blocky cheap-o's, other than they don't have that fricken' turn signal: i still believe that it would add an addtional layer of safety to the car... zoom44 11-02-2002, 01:01 PM i'm with ya wakeech! i want those hood vent/louvers! and the signals on the mirrors. why should they not be there just cause they changed the shape of the mirror? Good Duck 11-04-2002, 12:19 PM I'm agreed with m477. I like the original, smoother concept (not the evolv). It's far less agressive than those later version. It looks more coherent, finished, and less add-on. This pic really does it for me. http://www.mazdausa.com/rx8/gallery/photos/photo5_download.jpg Takumi 11-04-2002, 10:54 PM I like how the yellow one looks. the roof looks a little bit different . if that had the bigger air ducts like the 3rd picture that be cool. but either way they all look cool R.Cade 11-05-2002, 05:32 AM The mirror lights and hood vents prolly added too much cost to production, hopefully the interior will be as close to the concept. |
