View Full Version : delay
curtlo707 10-28-2002, 03:39 PM A friend sent me this message. He didn't disclose the source. I was wondering if anyone else heard anything about this?
"Production of the new Mazda RX-8 has hit a problem, workers in the new plant producing the groundbreaking Renesis engine have forgoten to place the seals around the second rotor, all models currently produced have to be disassembled and the second rotor seal added, this will postpone the release of the RX-8 until the third quarter of 2003"
I'll keep looking to actually confirm this myself. --curtlo
zoom44 10-28-2002, 03:53 PM i was still under the assumption that nothing had been built yet except for engines and cars used in testing. i had not heard that even started producing engines in any amountso far.
Hercules 10-28-2002, 03:55 PM Let's hope not! I've been waiting 2 years now, I can't wait longer! :D
Jerome81 10-28-2002, 03:56 PM I pretty much doubt that claim. Mazda has most certainly not started "for sale" production on either the RENESIS or the RX-8. And if they were doing pre-production runs, they found a problem and likely fixed it immediately.
I hightly doubt the validity of that statement.
randyc 10-28-2002, 04:56 PM Extremely unlikely.
If the cars were that far along, why would replacing the seals really delay more than a day or two? It would not add many months. Forgetting to install the seals? I doubt that also.
boowana 10-28-2002, 05:10 PM I'm not surprised your friend didn't reveal the sources. it might have been Nissan though.
Anyway, it's a load of CaCa.
Grimace 10-28-2002, 05:38 PM Yep. "Job One" hasn't even started yet. It shouldn't take too long to fix zero engines...

I re-read that and had to laugh :D

Unless they've been used for kamikaze strikes...

curtlo707 10-28-2002, 09:19 PM Well that's the last time I'll look to that guy for information, haha. Sorry about the shake-up if there was any. One thought did cross my mind on this subject. I know nothing about the manufacturing process of vehicles, but could there be a possibility that they're already beginning to build the engines somewhere? From differing sources of information on the car, it seems they're changing some parts on the body of the car but is it possible that they've already got the engine and drivetrain plans complete for production? Everyone seems confident that the engine stats that are out are not going to change from the current reports. I don't know, I probably have no point here, I'm just desperately looking for any signs of progress towards the release of the car.
Toadman 10-28-2002, 10:50 PM The Renesis engine is already being used in the open-wheeled Mazda Star racing Series. They had one at SS5. It is not an untested engine. :)

...so that would be Mitsubishi then, right?? Too funny!
Rexman 10-29-2002, 02:57 PM Bullcrap. Who will forget to put seals in the 3rd rotor of a series of engines? Only a fearful Nissan employee. Hahaha.
The rumors will run wild as the RX-8 will put to rest many a car that it will be competing with.
rpm_pwr 10-29-2002, 03:34 PM For guys with supposedly "inside" information I find it funny that nobody knew that Renesis motors ARE in production! While it is possible to miss seals, Mazda aren't stupid enough to just make a ton of them without actually testing them individually.
If there had have been a stuff-up they would have picked it up on the first motor. Still, it's not like Mazda haven't made mistakes before...

Grimace 10-29-2002, 04:17 PM Forgetting to put the seals around the second rotor is akin to building a 8 cylinder engine where only 4 cylinders have piston rings...
Ain't going to happen unless the motors are being assembled by drunk inbred sight-challenged chimpanzees.

When did the UAW get to Hiroshima? :D
Donny Boy 10-31-2002, 06:31 AM Seems too far fetched to be believable.
Stephan 11-03-2002, 04:19 PM Mazda France confirm the first car in January/feb to show it to the early buyers (including me:o)), and release date for June.
S
curtlo707 11-03-2002, 06:34 PM So does that mean in Jan or Feb we'll know the prices and option packages the car is going to have?
RacerX7FB 11-04-2002, 01:51 AM Base model will be at around $26,000 ;)
Stephan 11-07-2002, 05:07 PM We already know it for the "extended" 6 speed version.

sorry im a bit dense today and i dont understand your post. could you elaborate?
Stephan 11-07-2002, 05:40 PM Price is 38k€ for the 250 hp version.
I have a Mazda France Signed invoice (in fact a reservation - booking sheet).
Hope it's more clear :)
zoom44 11-07-2002, 06:09 PM thanks for clearing that up. can you scan and post that invoice?

Is my BS meter is registering TILT?
Why would anyone pay 38K euro for the Mazda 6 when you should be able to purchase the RX-8 for less than 30k euro? My understanding is that one-euro is worth approximately one US dollar. If my dollar conversion is even close, you should be able to purchase an RX-8 for less than 30k euro, why would you buy a Mazda 6 for so much more?
Assuming my conversion rate is even close and your taxes are not totally crazy (they cannot be worst than in Canada) I do not believe that you can produce a “signed anything” from Mazda France that is showing such a purchase or pre-order. If he still claims he did, I cannot wait to hear the excuses as to why he cannot produce the scanned document.
Excuse me while I go fix my BS meter because I think it just blew up.
zoom44 11-07-2002, 07:59 PM i agree with your bs meter ZoomZoom but i think he is talking about the rx8 not the mazda6. he said 250hp 6 speed version
ZoomZoom 11-07-2002, 08:11 PM Well my BS meter is still buzzing and its ready to explode!!!
Where in the world is Mazda signing “anything” showing real specifications and/or showing actual dollar figures? Mazda France??? I think not.
SHOW us the document!!!
Stephan 11-08-2002, 12:29 PM I will scan my invoice, but please believe me it's only the reality.
Don't be shocked I am buying the first black RX8 250 hp 6 speed model for 38K euros (same in dollars).
I know it's more than previuosly told by Mazda, but Mazda France is just the same company than Mazda Japan/USA or whatever. ..
I mean they decide the price they want for which market and the french are the unluncky ones, like ever.
Do you know that the RX7 has never been imported here ?? and that when you want to buy one it's much more expensive than elsewhere (USA for example) ??
I assume that they just decided that for France, and that you will probably have a more competitive price. It will not be the first time that we pay more for a product compared to the US.
Why do you think I buy all my DVDs on amazon.com and not .fr ??
Now, you just have to pray and hope that this is not a bad sign for all of you guys.
Stephan;)
zoom44 11-08-2002, 12:36 PM if thats true stephan, you should just go over and by one in the U.K. and drive it back thru the chunnel. it might save you some money.:D
Stephan 11-08-2002, 12:39 PM My invoice is more precisly an "order form" made during the Automobile World Paris Fair (largest in the world by number of visitors) and is an official paper to book the car.
No technical details, just the global stuff : Rx8, Black, 250 HP, 6 speed.
Don't tell me I am a fool, ask yourself if you had in front of you the MD of Mazda US proposing that kind of stuff ...
Stephan
Stephan 11-08-2002, 12:41 PM buy in the UK will be difficult with their FUK?.?/? wheel on the right ...
Stephan
zoom44 11-08-2002, 02:51 PM oops sorry didnt think about that.
Stephan 11-08-2002, 05:43 PM this english are really not normal :o)
So no news from you guys ?
You are not fearing a real increase of the retail price finally ?
