Got springs/shocks/18x9.5's in the past Monday.

Front Left
Camber: -.6
Caster: 7.2
Toe: .06

Front Right
Camber: -.5
Caster: 6.8
Toe: .11

Rear:
Total Toe: .38
Thrust Angle: .01

Rear Left
Camber: -2.2
Toe: .2

Rear Right
Camber: -2.0
Toe: .18

He then told me my car would be stable up to about 150 and that the tires would wear on the side. Said to rotate the front diag back and each of the back straight forward every 2 months or so to eliviate the uneven wear. This would mean tires would be facing the "wrong" direction.

My Question is - is running the tires backwards dangerous? He claims to have been doing this setup on his cars for years now and he's been in the game for ~35yrs. Said on F1/race tires the direction matters because of an overlap but on modern tires there was no big difference and he didn't notice any changes, even in the rain.

Opinions, comments, concerns?

If I should want/need to change I don't think there would be a problem, he accidently did the alignment with the 4 springs/shocks in the trunk. Place was cheap too, tires were $201 after tax/balancing (275/35/18 t1r's) and the total labor cost for install of springs/shocks/align was $140 (took em 5.5 hours, no lifts)

 

just do it the right way, front straight back and back striaght forward. it keep the rubber from crack and sepration. if the tire company recomanded rotation you stick with it.

 

I think your guy there is nuts.

Typically (not in all cases), directional tires are directional due to tread pattern design for water evacuation. Running directionals backwards is a bad idea if it is wet but shouldn't pose any danger if the roads are dry.

 

While experience is generally a good thing, people often use it as a reason to justify doing things a certain way that they have no logical way of explaining. Lots of experience doing something the wrong way has no worth, if not negative worth.

yeah, guess what? Running treaded directional race tires backwards is actually common, as long as it was in the dry there wasn't any issue

I prefer more front camber and less rear camber, can't comment on toe because it's not clear if it's in inches or degrees

 

I'd prefer to think that I have enough understanding of cars to realize treads are only there for water evacuation, but yes I do take everything rather seriously. It's my personality and I know it can be a flaw in certain situations and I try to control it, but it comes through every once in awhile.

Mostly though, quite a bit of communication is lost over the internet, especially so since I refuse to use the smilies.
