This is a cross post.

Through a friend in Tokyo, I have been asking the people at A'pex Integration (Apexi) if they will making a control computer suitable for the RX-8.

A'pex are well known for their aftermarket items for the RX-7 cars.
Their Power RFC and Super AFC-II are electronic devices to manage fuel/air and turbos on RX-7 and other autos.

See:
http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics.asp
http://www.apexi.co.jp/
http://www.apexi.co.jp/products/electronics/super.html
http://www.apexi.co.jp/products/electronics/powerfc.html

I can testify that their management computers and boost controllers are awesome. A friend of mine has a 3rd gen RX-7 with a lot of their components fitted, and once he added their computer he says it is like driving a different car. Smooth idle, power is abundant, fuel economy is improved and driveability much better.

In talking with them they say that they are very interested in producing their products for the RX-8.

However, they need an RX-8 owner in the Tokyo area to volunteer his car for a few days, a few hours per day, for testing and fitting purposes.
To quote, translated into English:
"their requirement is that you have to bring car in for their factory outside tokyo several times for few days for benchmark "

So, if anyone can get in touch with an RX-8 owner over there, it looks like we might have something useful out of it..

Damn... all we really would need is a harness/ecu wiring diagram, and some dyno time ;)

Ok, maybe not since our cars are not dyno friendly.

I would think Apexi would be a large enough company to buy their own test mule?

This past weekend at NOPI I talked to a rep from Apex and he told me that they are getting their test car this week. They will be developing exhaust and intake for the car but they are taking their time b/c of SES light concerns. They said that it may be Nov. or Dec before they would have anything done.

What is an SES light? It's probably something really obvious, too!

SES, Service Engine Soon

or check engine light.

EXCELLENT! any rumors on HKS doing exhaust or other components for the 8? does this void the warranty? i'll have to check my Mazda docs...

also has anyone posted MP3 files or other audio files of their stock 8 engine idling? i'm wondering what "normal" sounds like...

I would be shocked if HKS didn't make an exhaust for the 8 and I'm sure they will
the exhaust wont void warranty unless mazda dealer can prove the aftermarket exhaust caused whatever problem you are having at that time

What would you like to hear? From driver's seat, from the pipes, from under the hood...

IMO from the pipes
