I am currently in the market to buy my first new car. I have narrowed my choices down to the Mazda RX-8 and the Infiniti G35 coupe. The deciding factor will probably be the best deal that is offered to me. My question is that with the HP of the RX-8 being lower than advertised can I use that to negotiate a good deal for a Mazda. The same goes for the MPG issue.

I also have another issue. Because of the drop in HP I am worried that if I buy a RX-8 now next year model will have the proper HP and my resale value will plumet. even though I plan on keeping this car probably till it dies but still it is a concern.

I was looking at the G35c too before purchasing the 8. The problem with the G35c is that is so damn hard to fine. My local dealers all had a 2 month wait list and $4k markup on the MSRP. Considering I got my 8 for $29.7k and the Inifiniti dealer was asking for at least $36k, I think I got a good deal. :)

Never hurts to try, does it? But I would leave the MPG alone. There are enough of us getting the stated MPG (and more, in my case) that it's probably not going to get you anything off the price.

I already did. Miles per gallon was the least of my worries when I test drove the 8. What was I thinking about when I was driving it?


What was going through my mind:

1. Oh my God, this thing as Air Conditioning!

2. I have to start playing the lottery. Or wait until I get a real job to get this car.

I went though the same analysis that you did. I looked at the 350Z ,waited they would not deal. I looked at the G35 wouldn't deal until the coupe came out. Then wouldn't deal on the coupe if you could find it. I bought the RX8 Gt at 28895 with $500 cash back free maint. for 50K. I love the car ( must admit didn't drive the G35 coupe just the G35). If you want a sports car that you love to drive the RX8 is it. Forget about the backseats, they don't exist while you drive. I spend a lot of time showing the car off. If you want a car that is unique for under 30,000 get it.

How'd you pay only $28,895? That's at invoice practically.
