It's got pretty much everything I wanted except 6-Disc CD.

Only paid $15k for it, but it has 52k miles so...

Anyhow, just thought I'd say hello. You may see me rolling around here a little more now.

The car looks shiny.

I pretty much did the same thing back in Nov '03 except that I bought it new. I do miss being able to put the top down. I can't see a moonroof. Good thing, it's more annoying than anything.

Anyway, welcome to the forum.

congrats, 6 cd changer is typically $115 on ebay. You can always put that in. everytime I see one with nav I wish I had it.

I'm not familiar with the option combos so I can't answer, but I do know my NAV DVD is scratched so all I get is "Can't Read Disc" :(

chrism

nav is usually an option that the grand touring package comes with and yours is either sport or base judgeing from the cloth seats so thats why its odd and somewhat rare.....as for the disc you should be able to get some better answers on a replacement here

welcome to the addiction by the way!

So there is Base, Sport, & Grand Touring. Any sites/links that break down the differences?

Thanks,

You forgot the Touring. That is what I have. Nav is available (mine has it) in the Touring. Touring comes with the sunroof. Well, in 04 anyway. I am not sure past that.

get the mp3 player instead of 6 disk. you can hold more songs.

Yeah, I was just looking through the options. I apparently already have the Sirius hookup, but I don't plan to use it.

I'm likely going with the MP3 option... I've still got all of my MP3 discs from when I had a MSP.

you can get the breakdown of the options on the mazda site but for the most part there the levels are from the bottom up base, sport, touring, grand touring, shinka in the US. overseas there are other breakdowns and options such as 5 speed manual with the 4 port....

i'm not a big fan of the navi in the 8. granted that its integrated into the dash but for useability i'd stick to an aftermarket unit. Plus, its a $2000 option, gimme a break.

Question......what is the big deal with the Nav system?. As long as satelite is on GPS works right, or a cell phone, so you can get emergency care in a heartbeat. I can read a map, and plan my trips, ahead of time.

Why do I need a voice telling me where to go. Just another distraction in my book.

I'm glad My 06 SHinka didnt have it.

I have a yellow sport with nav. Really didn't want the nav - have probably had the screen up a dozen times in 2 years - but, it's there!!

PS Black is so sexy when it's clean - make a good home for him!!

Thanks guys. I had no idea my combo was so rare.

I only wish it actually played DVDs or something then it would be more usefull. I don't suspect I'll use it very often.

Come to think of it, there was at least a couple other cars set up the same way when I bought mine. I didn't want the leather or the sunroof and a lot of the other features, so I was down to buying a sport mt. I didn't want the nav, but all the sports my dealer had, had nav. I got the last yellow one they had.

My guess is, it's just a dealer thing. If cars with navs sale good in a particular area, the cars get ordered with navs.

I'd rather had my $2000.

I like the way it looks in the car. I would also probably hook up a dvd player to it as I probably wouldn't use it that much for maps, I do the same thing as you, plan before hand and know how to read a map. I bought my car used and I wasn't concerned whether it had it or not at the time, and I probably wouldn't pay $2000 from factory either for it. But after being to a couple meets and seeing it in the cars I do like it.

Hey spaz, where in Charlotte do you live? I live in Charlotte too. I just bought my 8 last October, a 2004 Titanium Grey. Im down on the south end of town near the Ballentyne area and work across from the Arboretum.

I'm in the cotswold area. My office is at 4401 Colwick Rd. Suite 607. Come by anytime during the day. We can do lunch or something.

Titanium & Yellow were the other two colors I wanted. But it was titanium that make me want one in the first place.

congrats again :D:

yeah sport pkg + nav is really rare.... and having Nav (factory or aftermarket) has saved me SO MUCH TIME in terms of not getting lost, and time spent routing out the trip beforehand, now it's just plug in address and go, it's wonderful.

So if you have a moonroof you have the Touring or the Grand Touring? Which ones have the LSD and bigger breaks? I guess i didn't realize there were so many options since I bought mine used.

Dave, you forgot the queen of the models...SHINKA! That one [Shinka] is ALL eyecandy! I never heard of a "base" though. I thought the sport was the "base?"

I wish I had the factory Navi, too. I thought I could add it later...:slap:...Silly Phantom.

Spaz,

Welcome. Is that the BB?

main difference between Touring and GT is the leather seats

and ALL RX-8's sold in US except the base model automatic comes with bigger brakes and LSD

I made the same move, I drove a TiGray Shinsen miata with the blue top and seats. Originally wanted an S2K, but couldn't afford it. :cwm27: Got to admit I do miss top down motoring and the miata was a great car indeed. I traded as soon as I realized everyone driving one was 2x my age :Freak_ani and to be honest with you the 8 is a keeper. The 8 is an excellent all around package for sports car enthusiast, welcome aboard!

Nice!

I think I'm going to go stealth with my 8 instead of chorme. The PO of my miata had put a TON of chrome bits all over the car and I never really dig it. I should have my tint done next week.
