View Full Version : I need a car within 2 weeks...help me
BlueEyes 01-24-2007, 09:17 PM Being the poor planner that I am, after graduating university and getting my job I've managed to save exactly nothing for a car and have invested much of my previous "Car fund" with my freind the "investment banker" who will undoubtedly loose it all. My probation at work is up and my other buddy is probably getting sick of me driving his extra car, so i need something ASAP.
I'd like to spend less that 25k before tax because I'm saving for a house, so used is the route I'll be taking. I'd love an Rx-8 and have seen some at or under 25k but don't have the time to go examine them all. I am hoping someone can suggest a car they might know about, know the history of, a friends friend or some shit like that. Maybe someone works at a dealer and can recommend something. So far Mazda dealers have been useless.
Other cars I'm considering are a WRX s2000, and RSX-S or maybe some '00 325/328CI or something similar. So if you know about any of those let me know.
Thanks.

Blue, why used man? A new si is 26 and better than a RSX. Even a Cobalt SS is respectable. I'm sure you can talk 'em to under 25. If you're on a budget, do not get an out of warranty WRX or BM, you're asking for trouble. Want RWD, try an MX5, they are heavily discounted.

I actually and a little suspisious of this thread considering blue's history in this forum. Some one hack his acct?
If that is you Blueyes, Get a used Evo from someone that you know. or a wrex. or an FD. You can get nice FDs for 15 grand. I dont think you would be happy with the 8. Just my opinion.
carbonRX8 01-24-2007, 09:57 PM ^ thats Blue Eyes. Heh heh. Thinking exactly the same thing.

I've driven both the cobalt and si and they don't really do anything for me. The si is fun, but I'd rather have the same fun in an RSX and the added comfort features.

It's definitely me. They don't sell EVO's in Canada and an FD is too unreliable for daily driving. I'm not sure why you think I wouldn't be happy with an Rx-8, the only reason I'm a member of this forum is because I would be happy with an 8 and want one. I think it's a pretty great compromise for the streets.
Renesis_8 01-25-2007, 04:44 PM I say def go search for a used RX-8, they are around, also where are you located?

Good luck and congrats on movin' up. I did the same about three years ago. (And my spending habits are only now modulating enough to save anything)
As far as the car goes, I am a practical person, and I can see your point about the RX8 being a good compromise. In my experience, it has been. Its roomy, a good daily driver, reliable despite posts in this forum to the contrary. (Not the best snow car. You get snow?) Unfortunately, I couldn't rest with just the stock RX8, and I think you know that you will itch for more power. You are already considering the wrex. Plus the AWD cars can handle winter. I love my car and I would expect others to do the same. I was just expressing my doubts that if you had to get a car and leave it stock, if YOU would be happy with it.
alabbar 01-26-2007, 07:47 AM where are u located?
BlueEyes 01-27-2007, 04:57 PM I'm located in the Toronto or Hamilton area. I've got an Integra Type-R on the go right now, still looking for an 8.

BlueEyes 01-31-2007, 09:20 PM I'd like to keep my monthly car payments + insurance under 15% of my net income and it's just not possible on a 31000 dollar car with the finance terms I'm looking at.

Did you ever think about just making more money? That's what I do whenever I need some more.
Silver Machine 02-11-2007, 10:38 PM I'm considering selling mine. It's a 2004, silver, sunroof, 85K km, regularly maintained, and includes snow tires on rims. Looking for price in the low 20's.

spigot52 02-13-2007, 07:31 AM How about a Miata??
Most Miata club members baby their cars, so there are
many excellent bargains.
just one example on Vancouver Island...little too far for you

BlueEyes 02-17-2007, 02:28 PM Well, thanks for all the help folks, here's what I picked up...
9291150 02-19-2007, 09:01 AM That's a fun car, it's like 195hp and 2600 pounds right?
N rider89 02-20-2007, 03:08 AM ah the pirates choice type arrrrr
BlueEyes 02-20-2007, 08:53 AM That's a fun car, it's like 195hp and 2600 pounds right?
Yeah, the cars dyno at about 165 whp stock and weigh somewhere between 2550-2700 depending on where you get your info from. Mine has an intake and headers on the way, so it should have a little more power. I also have some white Volk Te-37's on the way too :ylsuper:
I'm really pleased with the car. It puts a smile on my face, and that's about all I can ask for. It's also in near flawless shape, has low low km, and a couple years on the factory warranty. I'm looking forward to getting some seat time on a track to see how it stacks up, however, after hitting some of the local twisties I can't imagine being dissapointed.
I don't know if once the novelty wears off the simplicity and sparceness of the interior will start to bug me, but time will tell. Definitely the sound of that engine coming through what very little sound deading is in the car won't.
