View Full Version : Pick the irritation
morganrogers 09-09-2003, 07:03 AM Here is a quote from the RX main discussion forum.
From a chap in the US.
As UK pre-orderers , let's see how many irritations we can find in this one sentence. I promise it is real -
Hello Folks, Ill likely be an RX-8 owner as of tomorow , Ive been debating it for about a week. I was sold on it after my first couple test drives ... <etc>
So - How many irritating bits can you find..... ?
MarkW 09-09-2003, 07:11 AM How about all of it!
Particularly this bit, "Ive been debating it for about a week".
One week from decision to ownership, It will have been twelve months for me :(
morganrogers 09-09-2003, 07:17 AM ... how about 'first couple of test drives'..... ?
rich606 09-09-2003, 07:19 AM "as of tomorrow"
didn't go down too well!!

I cant comment on that too much as I have my second test drive booked for next week :D
MarkW 09-09-2003, 07:22 AM I hate to say it but posts like that will be appearing over here next year sometime once cars are readily available.
sixspeed 09-09-2003, 08:21 AM You're irritation is because he can drive a car and a week later buy it?
But the car is already "released" in the US?
You have pre-ordered a car that you knew was not going to be available for some time, and regardless of whether other markets have the car first, has suffered delays that should be expected as part of a pre-order process? I'm sure you could drive an S2000 now and buy one brand new off a dealership forecourt a week later. I'm sure in 6 months time the same will be possible with the RX-8.
It's getting just a bit boring now. We all PRE-ordered a car, BEFORE a date was given for a market release. And if the delay is your gripe, then as i've already said before as well, the RX-8 is not the first, nor the last car to miss its anticipated launch date! It's all part of pre-ordering a vehicle.

Titanium Grey 09-09-2003, 08:42 AM It's more that Uk car production was held up to meet US orders.
But that wouldn't have been so bad if they were orders for actual customers rather than dealers filling their lots!
One dealer with 20 RX-8s to sell in America, multiply that up across all US dealers, and you probably have enough cars for all UK preorders! That's what really irritates, I wish they had used the same ordering process as the UK. I know there isn't a lot we can do about it, but we should let people get things of their chest.
I'm rapidly approaching a plateau of resignation now, although tinged with a bit of optimisim we might see some cars at the end of October.
Apparently were all going to have delivery dates in three weeks time,;) let's start looking forward to them.
morganrogers 09-09-2003, 08:43 AM [Yawn]
... thanks for the clarification. I must have missed that.
ploszek 09-09-2003, 08:56 AM The manufacturers really belive that the US market is key at the moment with volumes rising fast. Consequently it has entered the "bloodbath" stage of market development with everyone offering bigger and bigger discounts or finance deals to shift stock. I suspect that Ford/Mazda have sensed an oppoertunity to shift some metal without heavy discounts and have decided that that is more important than we are.
PLEASE don't tell me that those 20 on the forecourt are discounted with 0% finance as well!!!!!!!!
Titanium Grey, you are right - check this quote from the US re unallocated US stock...
"Does anyone know if the inventory link on Mazda's website is accurate. I checked for the availability of RX-8's within a 150 mile radius of where I live in Los Angeles. A total of 679 RX-8's are on inventory for sale per Mazda's website. "
oilman 09-09-2003, 09:05 AM Just don't go there:(
Still not long now eh:D
Cheers
Oilman
I agree, it's all to painful but well worth the wait I hope.

Heck this quote irked ME, and I have a car!
In Canada we get 700 for the entire country for this year. There is probably 300 in the country right now (mostly sold) But there is 679 within a 150mile radius of LA? YIKES!
All I can say is at least my car won't be a dime a dozen up here in the northern frozen land.

Some people just don't know how luckly they are :(
Oh I COMPLETELY agree. I've VERY VERY lucky.
It was excruciating waiting to see this car in person, I can't imagine STILL waiting. It was a pain knowing the US guys had the car a month before we got our in Canada.
I feel sorry for you guys, I would be going CRAZY!
I was originally going to wait till next June to get my car. But I was going sooooo crazy for it I just bought one on the lot (like the only one in Canada that wasn't pre-sold).
I'm lucky as hell, and I'm the first one to admit it.
Hope you guys get your cars in October!
ploszek 09-09-2003, 10:58 AM Hang on a minute - 600 odd cars, 30 odd dealer in LA - that means 20 cars on a forecourt is AVERAGE. Some dealers must have WAY MORE!

Wing, you certainly make a refreshing change from a lot of the moaning going on across the pond. Thanks for the support there are a lot of us waiting with baited breath!

I don't know what the paper work would be like, but there is the possibility you could head south of the border and pick one up from the merkins. No chance for us Brits, they drive on the wrong side of the road there, and sailing accross the pond aint cheap.

Well I was very suprised when I was touring Canda in May (Montreal to Vancouver, fantastic time), my MX3 is quite rare in the UK (ok there is another one identical to mine 1 mile up the road, but apart from that), but over there I saw almost as many as maple leaves!
Some were even in car bars - eeeeeeeew, how can anyone do that to a car? A few chips are better than looking like a complete tit!
Cheers
