Ok with all the discussion about DSC and TCS on the GT model and the possible fuel savings, why has nobody mentioned the weight differences as well.

I think 200lbs (or close to it) is rather significant. Did Mazda test GS models when doing the 1/4 mile times and 0-60?

Using a web calculator, the difference in 1/4 mile times for base and GT with the same HP of 238 would be

14.48 (base/GS)
14.79 (GT)

That is a significant difference!

I'm going by the weight of my GS model in Canada with the 18" wheels. What about the 16" wheel version is it under 3000lbs?? Heck in Canada we have the 6 cd and 9 speakers. That would add probably close to another 100lbs. I would suspect since the US version doesn't have those on the base, the car MUST be under 3000lbs.

I believe mazda advertises weight as the "most popular option choices". But if they tested a 2900lb car 0-60 "220hp" as many as suspecting.

Guess what? The 1/4 mile time would still be 14.62!!!

Does anyone know the EXACT weight of the base model car in U.S. i.e. WITHOUT ANY package at $27,200 msrp.

How much do you think all these extras would weigh on a GT. 200 lbs ?

- Bose Audio (extra speakers?)
- Leather (heavier than cloth?)
- Power seats/lumbar support (electric motors and stuff)
- Heated seats (again some extra equipment)
- Moon roof (considerable additional weight)
- Dynamic Stability Control (does this consist of lots of heavy mechanical parts???)

All guessing on my part but here's my take on weight added"

Bose...just a stereo....subwoofer maybe adds 5 lbs....electronics are light....extra amplification....maybe another 5lbs

Leather....another 5 lbs, maybe

pwer seats...3 more lbs

moon roof....electronics plus the glass....30 lbs

DSC...mainly electronics with sensors on the wheels......10 lbs

Let's add it all up....58 lbs- 60 lbs....maybe.

I'm sure it lists in the Canadian manual that the GT is 200lbs more than the GS, I know I read it someplace.

Also the 16" wheel are probably 5lbs less each than the 18" wheels.

Unless of course they are really crappy 16" alloys that weigh alot.

Anyway, I'm sure it was close to 200lbs difference, I'll check the manual again.

Don't get too happy with a web calculator.

I have a hard time believing there's a 200lb difference between the two models..but if it's true I'll be very happy when I recieve my car..

Thank you for reminding me to go weigh my GT. I had forgotten all about it. Enough of us have our cars now that we DON'T need to be guesstimating weights.

As a short recap:

Without driver:

Total: 2908

Specs: Sport model, no sunroof, no spare (just the "kit"), strakes (they are not light), exhaust finishers, 6 speaker stereo, 1/4 tank of gas, anti-sway bars still hooked up.
(scale tolerance is about +/- 2lbs)

The 3029 weight was for the US "high-power" version (full tank) with options that Mazda expected 30% of buyers would purchase.

Nice data from Mazdatrix....would be nice to see a GT to compare to mazda's specs on the same scale used for the sport weight.

In some aspects of life it's a good thing I weigh 145lbs :D

Sub and extra speakers probably adds up to more than 5 lbs, just the one amp probably adds up to another 5 lbs.

I think the motors used for electric seats are pretty damn heavy, at least on my bros MX-6 it was but that was some years ago.

The leather probably adds a lot more than 5 lbs. as well, pick up a leather jacket and you'll understand.

I'd say 150-200 lbs. is more accurate.
