View Full Version : Read this if you are choosing aftermarket Rims
Jliu921 09-07-2003, 12:55 PM Since I've been looking into purchasing aftermarket rims...
I wanted to find a gallery of rims with the rims on the cars and with the different car/rim selections next to each other. However, I couldn't find anything like that on the net.
So I took the liberty of creating 2 images for you to help with your decision making. I only compared 22 different rims, since my time is slightly valuable -_- ... But there are a good variety of rim types to help you on your way. It sure helped me.
** I took different configurations from tirerack.com with our rx8 2004 selection and print screened and cropped the images **

SleepR1 09-07-2003, 01:23 PM BBS RGR is the hands down winner. I'd really like to know if the 9-inch wide by 18-inch diameter will fit all around with 255/40-18 tires. Offset range probably needs to be between 43 and 50 mm...
mikeb 09-07-2003, 03:13 PM great post....
I like the gt1 and moda 6
I want the volk gtc rims in silver
Or the racing hart cx either in 19
HedgeHog 09-07-2003, 03:30 PM noobie sez this looks nice (Buddy Club P1 Racing II). anyone know if 17x9, 45mm running 255/40-17 will fit? *hoping to use my set from the FD ;) *

mikeb 09-07-2003, 06:45 PM why would you want 17inch when the 8 comes with18 inch rims in most cases

http://www.first-inc.co.jp/buddyclub/p1/2_img/rx8_2.jpg I bet it does...thought you already sold those, Hedge?? FWIW, the 255/40-17 will be a bit short in overall diameter for the Rx8. The Rx8's stock overall tire diameter is ~26 inches, so you''ll need to switch to 255/45-17 (Mustang/Camaro/Corvette) tire sizes LOL :) The P1s do look good on the Rx8 though...

Simple...they have my V700's on them for autoxing. Besides, the OEM rims are fugly....and the RX-8 (if i decide on it) will be the "family car". Already got a more-fun-mobile. :D

Although, I think the P1 II's look better on the blue.

Gord96BRG 10-20-2003, 10:04 PM Konig Holes - graphite w/polished rim! (These are my winter wheels, 17")
mikeb 10-21-2003, 12:53 AM those tires look huge
santino 10-21-2003, 01:17 AM Gordon,
How much do the Konigs weigh? i know they are smaller than the OEM size, but i am just curious. I am wondering if the Heliums that Brian Goodwin carries are the only "light" wheel they have. i remember Brian taking the Greenlights (by Konig) off his site because they were heavier than advertised.
take care
santino
Gord96BRG 10-21-2003, 07:44 AM The 17" Holes wheels are advertised at 17.1 lbs, which is decent (for a 17" wheel). They are advertised as lightweight by Konig as well, and it seems they are. I weighed the OEM 18" wheel/tire combo at 41.2 lbs apiece, and the 17" Holes/Toyo Garit HT wheel/tire combo at 35.2 lbs - a whopping 6 lbs per corner unsprung weight reduction!! Imagine knocking 6 lbs per corner from a Miata!
mikeb, the tires are size 215/55-17, and are about 1/2" taller diameter than the OEM 18" tires! The taller sidewall might be deceiving ;)
Regards,
Gordon
s1mike22 11-02-2003, 03:17 PM the racinghart cx multi-piece looks very nice.

BlueRenesis82 10-19-2004, 10:32 PM How wide can I get those BBS RGR's that will fill out my wheelwells without looking stupid? I am debating between 8.5 and 9" ones. Armed with BFG KDW's of course :)
I can say out of all of those rims, i only like the SSR competitions.
For some reason, I'm hooked on these:
