I put on my Dunlop M3's last week, but it's pushing 60º here in the Northeast the next few days. How bad is it (if it's bad at all) to drive with winter tires when it's this warm?

I have an "optional" 200 mile trip to make. I was gonna go tomorrow, but should I wait 'til it's colder?

That's a good question. I, too, have made the switch (actually got to do some snow drivin' last week)... But it's in the fifties here and will remain so for the next few days.

I usually consider 60F to be a deal breaker in the spring - that's the sure-fire time to ditch the snow tires. However, I couldn't find any ambient temperature guidelines on the Bridgestone, TireRack or other websites I browsed. What those websites did say was that dry pavement driving wears the snow and ice tires much faster than driving on snow or ice. I can imagine high ambient temperatures only make that worse.

200 miles at 60F doesn't sound outrageous. I can't imagine you'd burn a whole season off your snow tires (or wear off enough rubber to cut your final season short), but it's really a judgement call for the person who pays to replace the tires.

Try not to push them on warm dry roads. The tread is so soft that it will scrub off pretty quickly. Sucks . . . sunny day here and all I wanted to do was go for a nice long drive on some twisty back roads.

I think that driving 200 miles in 60 degrees won't be bad, as long as you take it easy. Winter tires of recent years hold up much better in warmer weather (as per some TireRack article that I read).

I have been trying to take it easy! Been trying to take those ramps slowly and to not brake as hard and (possibly hardest of all) avoid full throttle in 1st gear (and maybe 2nd too). I think high-speed cornering is one of those things that eats up tires faster.

Not something that I would worry about.
