Phat8, really good to see someone close by. Been trying to insert the pic of mine, don't know if it worked. Twenty-flippin'-inches !! I checked tyre prices for my 18'' and each tyre costs more than four of my previous car, with some change to spare. Where the heck did you do the chrome? would like to do both the front and the rear

msenzo: if you want to insert a photo you've got 2 options:

1) you'll need to upload the picture somewhere. try www.photobucket.com. Sign up there, you'll see an browse button, insert that path you put in your post, click upload. Once it's uploaded, you'll see a url (use the top one). Then come back, click on image and insert that url (copy & paste is your friend)

2) Resize the picture WAY down, go advanced, manage attachments, browse for photo, and upload.

Before I disappear, in SA we have two versions
5 speed manual (141kW, 220Nm) R299 000
6 speed manual (170kW, 211Nm) R341 000

Sorry, don't have conversions for power and torque. But you can easily match these with your figures.

At the moment 1$ will buy you R7.04, you do the math. Costs pretty much similar to the Alfa Romeo GT V6 and way, way cheaper than the 350Z, the Crossfire(yuk!!) and the S2000.

there r a few 8's around here but everyone's 2 scared to do any mods 2 them, especially turbo charging them. we dont get the white colour choice here though which i think is a great looker 2. car cost us R240.000 pre owned with 20.000 km's on the clock. as for the wheels we here in SA call all after market rims ''mags'' . i dont know what metal i think u right, they're not 2 heavy but the 20''s do slow the beast down alot. :)

Got mine 3/13/6. Love it just as much today as I did when I pulled into the dealer lot & it was waiting right in front of the door waiting for me to sign.

The stainless steel strakes are cheaper than Mazda store aluminum even with exchange rate & shipping from the UK - back in April they were $120 USD vs. ~$190 for the "mazda" ones. Don't know what the cost would be for U, but they're at http://www.rx8-accessories.com/index.html if you want to check.

If you are near Alberton, check out the Mazda dealer, they have a modified 5 speed. Looks similar to chrism's car. Really nice with carbon fibre bonnet and black rims and a lot more other goodies.

Hey...

I'm in Fourways. It's good to see some more people from SA on this forum.

I've got a Velocity Red - 2004 model. I was just wondering - Phat8 - what all do you guys do at your store? Is it just sound? I've been thinking of modding a bit - but most of my cash is going towards a new house at the moment.

Where exactly is your store in Edenvale - I reckon I should pop round for a visit - check our your 8 (it looks really good).

The strakes that you spoke about - you can get them WAY cheaper from the UK - check out: http://www.rx8strakes.com or http://www.rx8-accessories.com - both offer strakes and accents for the front and back bumpers for quite decent prices - I was thinking of getting some myself.

Also - do you know anywhere I can get hold of Enkei rims? I REALLY like the new Mazdaspeed 2 style rims from Enkei - blue 8 attached. I reckon those are what I'd like to stick on my 8.

Lastly - do you know of anyone who does forced induction on 8's here in SA? I've looked around and can find a multitude of tuners for the rx7 but not the 8. The only kit I've come across if from Big Boss Auto (Petit Turbocharger kit) but they want +- R70 000 for it! That's a bit out of my range at the moment.

Otherwise - Enjoy your 8 - I know I love mine!

dmc27

The UK 8s don't have rear accents. Not sure what you've got in SA, but if you want front AND rear the UK shops are not gonna have both.

irq5
12-20-2006, 11:25 PM
True - I forgot that you guys get the rear fog light in the "diffuser" area

Well, the rx8strakes.com site sells the accents for the rear - I imagine it's a US site. They also make an aftermarket rear "fog light" type light which lights up with the tail lights and brakes. Not sure I'd get it, but I do like the accents...

dmc27
12-21-2006, 12:29 AM
There's also a knock off rear accent - I've got it on my8. It's aluminum (so I guess not really a knock off) but made by rotary13b something or other. Got it on ebay 30 or 40 (USD$$$$) and am quite happy with it. I'll check the site tomorrow - it's bookmarked at work.

The front accent I got from Howard (rx8-accessories.com) was pretty expensive. His strakes are great & cheaper, but the front accent was more than the regular aluminum ones through mazda. Not sure if there are any front accents that are cheaper.

irq5
12-21-2006, 01:05 AM
Thanks for the info. The ones on rx8strakes.com are pretty cheap because they're plastic. I think they go for something like $40 for the accents and $70 for the strakes. I'm not sure exactly how durable they'll be but the pricing is nice.

I'm not really focussed on modding my car at the moment, but I have started a little kitty that I'm just throwing a few extra Rands into each month that I can put towards little things like strakes and accents. I know there isn't a concensus on this forum in terms of whether the strakes look good or not. But I like them - I think the combination of the strakes and accents just add's that little bit extra to the car.

Turns out he's got the front & rear accents - $70 (USD) for both!

http://www.rotary13b1.com/order.html

I've got the rear accent & it's great. I would recommend adding a small piece of double sided sticky tape to the lower corner b4 applying it. Mine seems like it can wiggle a tiny bit. Don't have the front from this place, so I can't comment on the fitment.

the rx8 is so sexy as it is, people haved 2 b careful with their choice of mods :dragster: ive seen furry cow print pattern seat covers over the leather seats, people changing the steering wheels, gear shift changers, huge aluminium wings, chrome mercedes amg style mags, fridges in boots. if u look at the calling all engine bays thread u will c a example of what not to do (flames sprayed on the covers) just my opinion... will let u know when i spot a furry dash :eyetwitch no no no no. .. i'll get a friend to edit all these ''mods''on photo shop and post a pic and tell me what u think...they actually featuring these cars in our performance magazine just my opinion..i guess at least it's not just vw golfs the whole time. PAYING ATTENTION 2 THE FINER DETAILS ON SUCH A SEXY CAR will make a huge difference Already strakes etc... i sprayed my front and back rotor symbol under the bumpers matt silver and looks good along with painting my calipers red (not a quick mod) and putting mesh in the (mesh plastic look inserts) mods on the back bumper. these r all easy cheap mods. my bumper had stone chips and needed a respray so i got them 2 remove the badge and fill the holes and the unneccesary things under the lights that do nothing removed and filled at the same time looks more PHAT! AND OF COURSE NO NUMBER PLATE :) :chomper: (if any one knows a handbrake lever mod, pls share. it's about the only thing i dont like.) luckily we can sit back and c brave people doing things on the forum and make the right choices. i love it when u drive ur 8 and u feel like ur wearing a huge pink and yellow hat cos everyone's looking ur way or trying hard not 2, then u know ur styling.... and u even get abit of animosity  ... zoom zoom. i luv my rx8. :wiggle: :101384_l:

Please do give any info on the turbo / super charging that you find. I haven't looked into it much other than reading up on kits available from the US. I'm liking the sound of the Petit Supercharger kit - looks to be about the easiest and most stock looking bolt on. I've been following the thread and am just waiting for them to get it completed. As I say, I can't afford it now, but it'll be something to look into for 2008.

At the moment I'm just going to go for cosmetic stuff like the front and rear accents. I want to get a mesh grille for the back as well, but I actually want to take the car to a place that'll take the bumper off and actually cut out the plastic "fake" mesh grille and then put in a nice looking silver one. Any ideas of a good place to take the car to for that?

Thanks for the help again! I'll probably visit some time in the new year - I need to sort out the sound in the car too. Nothing major - was hoping to get away (for now) with just replacing the speakers with better ones - but I'll leave that chat for when I visit your store :)

But alas I don't think I'd have a mrs for very much longer after that...

Well, happy new year to you too! I agree 2007 is going to be a gr8 year!

Yeah - I was just kidding too - myself and Nadia have been together for 7 years today. Married for 3.5 months... Also the best thing to happen to me.

I didn't see the Speed n Sound issue though but they couldn't have been too bright testing the 5 speed. Anyway - at least we know we got the right one :)

CONGRATS!! that's great, we'll get married one of these days too. i'll try post a pic of the 8 that was in the speed and sound. wanted to ask u where u take your 8 4 it's services? and r u happy? i had a BMW b4 and the service was great, it's sad to see how Mazda treats their customers who have bought their top car! Mazda Edenvale is terrible, the last time it was in some one drove into the back bumper and had to be replaced, besides 4 asking them to do things and they dont. asked them 2 adjust my head lights 3 times now and they have'nt got it right. dont even think they put the heat blanket from the recall when i asked them. the list goes on, dont wanna bore u.

irq5

wanted to ask u where u take your 8 4 it's services? and r u happy?

I agree that this is one of the major downfalls of having the 8 in SA. I used to take mine through to the Mazda/Ford on William Nicol close to Sandton City out of conveniece as it was on my way to work in Hyde Park. Now that I've moved companies, I took it through to the Rivonia dealership and I haven't been impressed with either.

I've got a friend who also drives an 8 - he stays out in Germiston and always takes his past the dealership in Alberton. He's never complained about the service there. So at my next service, I'm going to take it there - it's a bit of a drive though as I'm out in Fourways, but it's close to work seeing as though I work in the Joburg cirty centre now. I'll see how it goes and let you know - well it might be a while, still got +- 7000k's to the next service, but I'll let you know how it goes...

May car's kinda reaching the end of the service plan though, so I'm going to have to either extend it or take it in each time out of my own pocket - or maybe even do them myself. How hard can it be - there's an air filter, an oil filter, oil and spark plugs to change... Nothing nearly as complicated as a piston engine. I'd have to take it in for stuff like a clutch change, but any other than that can't be too difficult to do yourself...

phat8
01-17-2007, 03:36 AM
convenience has been my downfall here 2 as i stay in Edenvale. my 8's also reaching the end of it's service plan 85000 k's now and is a 2004 model what's ure's on? can u extend the service plan?? i know with my BMW i could. i agree on doing it ourselves, and no to the clutch changes l.o.l. u sound kinda like myself with doing things urself. what work do u do? i try to do most things myself besides 2 save some cash, places just don't do things right and can't b trusted. but u get tired and there's never enough time to do everything...

irq5
01-17-2007, 05:04 AM
I'm on around 74000 at the moment - 2004 model as well. I'm not sure whether the service plan can be extended, but it's definitely something I'll have a look into - it's really nice to be able to take the car in and fetch it all fixed.

Well, that's perhaps the fantasy that I want to believe. I'll do a check on parts prices and stuff and see how much it'll set me back each services vs. the cost of the service plan. I do like to get my hands dirty though, so I won't mind doing the services myself...

phat8
01-17-2007, 06:02 AM
cool let me know... why dont u do the back bumper mesh conversion urself if u dont mind doing things urself? grinder, cutting disc, flexipad sanding disc the style mesh u want and thats it... shop 1a 108 Andries Pretorius Rd Edenvale Jedi Audio. we can meet some time if u like bring Nadia along can meet my fiance Vanessa... and we can mod it, i've got all the tools here and know where to get the mesh... probably cost you about R250 for the mesh. done most of my mods myself. b.t.w check ur brake calliper thread, posted something...

irq5
01-17-2007, 07:54 AM
Sounds good. One problem at the moment... Or maybe not - what do you think:

Last year I reversed into a parked car in our office parking lot - the guy was parked illegally and managed to be just in my blind spot. It wasn't bad at all - I was maybe doing 5km/h. So I had the bumper replaced because the guy wanted to go through insurance to repair his car. But they forgot to paint the bottom section black. I didn't pick up on it till after their "complaints" time - gotta love panel beaters. Anyway - I need to get that done sometime too. Do you reckon I need to do it before or after the mod?

Perhaps after is better because any areas that get scratched when we work on it will be repainted. What do you think?

BTW - I saw the post on the Brake Calipers thread - I know it's going to take a long time to do - what paint did you use? Did you import the caliper paints that are sold online or just get paint for like a "House of Paints" or something?

phat8
01-17-2007, 08:22 AM
So im not the only one with a 2nd bumper... L.O.L i think getting it sprayed after is a better idea. how does the weekend after this weekend sound? around the 26th. the paint to use must be duplicolour from Autostyle in Mayfair. done my homework any other hi heat paint available locally comes off. PAINT KIT: brush, cleaner, paint, cost about R250/ R350. if u work in JHB central they close 2 u, just off Main Reef rd, Church st. u could drive there in ur lunch time and get the mesh and the calliper kit.

irq5
01-17-2007, 10:59 PM
Unfortunately the weekend of the 26th is a bit busy for me - Oh, and on the 27th, we're off to Sun City for the day. I can maybe look at doing it the following weekend. Thanks so much for offering to help as well. I'll check with Nadia - I doubt she'd want to come along - she'll probably want to spend the day with her friends if I'm going to be busy during the day. Do you reckon we could do the bumper and the calipers in one day?

Was just thinking - if I do the calipers, it'll also be a good time to give the wheels a good clean inside. In the mean time I'll try photoshop and idea of what the bumper will look like with the cut-out and mesh insert so that I know what type of mesh I'd be looking for when I got to Autostyle. How do you actually attach the mesh to the bumper - just out of interest?

Another thing I was wondering is how it'll look to see the mufflers through the cut-out.

I'll make sure I bring the camera along so that we can document the mod - most guys on on the forum would love to see the pics - perhaps we could even post a DIY :)

Hope U guys don't mind me coming in here .......almost seems like you having a private chat (pm ?)

Anyway , recently bought Yellow 5 Speed 2004 , I understood 3 jr Warranty and Maintenance plan , so went to find out what an extended Maintenance plan would cost , R.10260.. 3 more years and I think up to 120000K's ........Turned out RX8 have a maintenance plan for five years so I'm still okay ....Car only have 40000Km on clock ...yeah ! All that after phoning 5 Dealers in Kwa Zulu Natal .... (Thanks Charlene at BarlowMotorWorld in Pietermaritzburg for helping !)

I think with a 10000Km service every now and then it might be worth while having a Maintenance plan , In case something big goes !

Had my sound Changed yesterday , Well ,Speakers that is ....Fli all round ...really clear all though bass seems a bit low...

Hey With - no worries for jumping in...

R10k for an extra 3 years and 120000km's - That's doesn't sound bad - especially if it is a full maintenance plan, not just a service plan. So if something does go wrong - it can be fixed inside that plan. Hmm... I'll have to look into that.

How do you find the Mazda dealerships here in SA?

howzit. glad u popped up. cool 2 find someone else local!! thanx 4 the info about the maintenance plan, will stop past the dealer soon and get all the info and post what i find out. the fli range is nice but not very bassy, are they amped up? i own a car audio fitment centre and can supply and fit u a SONY 10 disc mp3 rf shuttle which is much nicer than the JVC. the JVC front controller looks abit cheap and has a green illumination and nothing lights up green in the 8, where as the sony lights up blue so it'll match your clocks on the blue mode. :) original mp3 from MAZDA for a R1026 more is not bad...the SONY supplied and fitted R2000. check out my 'outdated' site 4 my details if u interested. WWW.JEDIAUDIO.CO.ZA. any mods on ur 8? post a pic.

Cool! what sub is it? and is it in a custom built box? or a mass produced box? i've had a few customers saying the quality of the RF's sound is'nt too good obviously been RF. i would spend the bit extra and get the mazda mp3 unit, it's quite cheap. but if u want the scrolling text etc... get the JVC. We built the loudest official 2x12'' sedan in S.A last year, pushing a strong 152,4 db's at IASCA and at the next IASCA event the weekend after pushed a 153,4. must still get round to doing a fibreglass install in my 8. thanx 4 the rates on the m/s plans. I think they're very reasonable. how much are the strakes gonna cost u? wanna get a set myself, mazda wants R2500!!! I do'nt think a RX8 CLUB exists in S.A. would be really cool if there was a club.

Hey With

I'd love to see the strakes on your car. I've been thinking of getting from rx8strakes as well. I'll go for the ones painted to match the wheels. Any chance you could post pics when you've installed them? Also keep us posted as to when they arrive here in SA and what sort of import duty you pay on them if any.

Cheers! :)

Don't check the forum often, but talkin' about radio.

I used to have a DVD player (the JVC with a small screen) in my previous car. It was VERY convenient. It really gets to me that I can't install a DVD player, all my music is burnt on DVDs and I still had to have 5 of them with some 1000 songs each. Now, I feel really limited. I've been even thinking one can be able to modify the ash tray and hide a small DVD player behind the lid. Obviously I have only driven 5500km and in no way willing to lose that maintenance plan.

I had to add tweeters (Earthquake), replace the lousy rear 6x9 with 4 way pioneers 420W max. Then I put a tube Jensen 480W max sub coupled to a bridged JBL 80.2 amp (putting the tube through the boot opening....well). The setup doesn't blow me away, but the bass is really good. I keep the bass setting on the radio at -6 (minimum) this enhances the high frequencies.

One day I will pass by Phat's shop, just haven't found time yet. Also, the misses isn't over the purchase yet, have to wait a few months for the storm to boil down a bit.

I second the idea for an SA Club. Doesn't necessarily have to have it's own site - I'm sure we could ask the moderators of rx8club.com to put up a Regional section for SA.

I'm way keen for the breakfast run as well... Would be good to get all the machinery together for some group pics. And I just love driving the 8! :ylsuper:

A nice tasteful sticker on the rear passenger window would be cool too! When I get some time I'll try come up with some designs!

(FUN QUESTIONS!!) :scratchhe (1) whats the minimum amount of km's u've managed 2 get on a full tank? we managed a ridicilous 180 km's to a full tank. :D: speed between 200 and 220 continously. never again! or else the fridge and cupboards would b empty. :) :hahano: :scratchhe (2) What's the most amount of km's achieved TO A FULL TANK? :D: we've stretched a stressful max of 420 km's. speed as slow as possible to make it to the next petrol station in the middle of the karoo! :uhh: :D: (3) Assuming we all run on unleaded 93 and when possible 95. :scratchhe has any of u managed to get ur exhaust 2 burn completely white at the tailpipes like the leaded cars used 2? :D: often when riding hard/ high rev's iv'e got them to burn white. quite cool i most post a pic. :ylsuper: :scratchhe (4) whats the fastest speed u've ever reached? :D: we think it was 232, 235 or 237 kph with the 18's on. can't remember where the rev counter was, think around 7-8k was long ago, car still feels impressingly solid at that speed. :ylsuper:

Hey Phat

Been a bit busy at work so I haven't had time to check the forum or try contact a moderator / administrator to add an SA section. Will do that now.

In reply to your questsions:

1) Minumum Km's on a tank: Also 180 odd
2) Maximum Km's on a tank: 501km!!! :Eyecrazy: On the way back from Ballito
3) Never gotten a white exhaust burn :( Always black...
4) Fastest Speed: 232km/h :ylsuper: Just after I got the 8. Haven't tried for a faster speed since.

Talking about camera's and radar on the way down to Durb's. On the stretch between Pietermaritzburg and Durb's - you know the one with all the really nice turns - we were doing about 187km/h I think and hit a camera - I saw the flash from the front. It took a while for it to hit me though - and Nadia actually pointed it out - I don't have a license plate on the front! :hahano: That was close!

I'll let you know what I hear if anything about an SA Section...

Km on Tank : I currently average 450k's per tank then my Empty light comes on .... Thats about 8 to 9 K's per liter ....Pretty much what I used to get with my Saab !

Oh and Fastest speed ever , 295Km.....on 1300 Hyabusa (Clock Speed)...SUZUKI yeah !

Thinking I might set up 3 x SARX8's club members for cheap accommodation (R300) at a resort (sleep 4 mostly) on the south coast (maybe Durban) off peak time for a weekend otherwise R650 a weekend .....Think about it ... the A1 ? Hey that sounds like SARS ...uuugh SARX8

I've spoken to the admins and in order for us to get an SA regional forum section, we need to take a poll of how many users will make use of the forum. So I've created the following poll on the site. Go there and vote YES!

This Sunday isn't good for me :( Next sunday would be perfect though!

So far we have 4 votes for yes in the Polls and thats all... Doesn't seem to be much movement. I've kept it open till the end of the month - so hopefully we'll be able to attract more attention from SA users. But I imagine that we'd need a lot more than 4 users to get the admins to create an SA section, so an SA specific site might be the way to go...

Will keep you guys posted.

Got My Strakes !

Really quick from USA , 8 Days

No Duties or tax paid.

Packaging pretty good.

Fit good as well , except for LU (Left Upper) , this one is a bit more away from the body.

aaaaghhh , The paint ....really not good , be careful , REALLY easy to damage , EVEN WITH THE DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ! .... This will probably need to be resprayed at some time ..Seems there is no Base Coat or prep done on them ...(looks like where the paint went off)

Fitting , easy , btw rather use the car itself to find best place ....Instructions on location a bit vague ...Wipe Stakes before you put double sided tape on , better grip..

Got Billed $12 for Shipping but on Box $9.75 , mmm Make of that want you want

Still is worth while ...R669 , If I had them made myself it probably would have cost more...

grrrr , Won't be joining U for a run .... Bit far ...Maybe later in the year , Long Weekend in April or end of Feb ? Thats why we need a Calender , Then Members can plan around it ......

And maybe we do a run with another club , ex : Toyota TwinCam club etc etc..

In so far as DBN accommodation , I need to Book two weeks ahead ....

Phat - Cost on Lowering , and who did it for U ?

WITH. that was quick! the strakes... how do u put them on?? with double sided tape? does'nt sound to stable 2 me. now it's not only ur valve caps u have'd 2 worry about... bugger ordering them if i can find ur car and pull them off 4 mine!! (jokes) the lowering cost me R1350.00 with the arch trimming!! very affordable in my opinion. Big Boss Auto done the job in 1 day. will put some ideas/dates 2gether & get the club calender going soon. long weekend run sounds good. WITH. pics please....

My vote is in too. Was thinking, would it work if we ask Mazda to offer our site to all those who come to service their cars? It is every10 000km so it is fairly often. Otherwise a club would be good.

I have a few problems at the moment, so would rather meet when the meet is in JHB. I support the idea of a calender.

Joining Toyota, as long as jealousy doesn't get in the way, it could work.

The strakes, damn wish those were mine. BB Auto gave me a tasteless treatment when I went asking about LED interior lights, will NEVER go back there EVER. But I must admit, the cost is good.

Chair, hope you enjoy Knysna, I have always wanted to go there but we thought we should rather go see Vic Falls sometime in the coming months.

WITH, thanks for the PM.

I know another forum member called something along the lines nvgor8 (also same plate on his 8). He is somewhere in KZN, probably PM Burg, hope he joins in too.

Phat - your ride look sweet lowered. It definitely made just that little bit of a difference that was required... Calipers - definitely next month. I'll definitely give you a shout once I've got the paint. I just can't decide now what colour - I toiling with red or silver. I reckon Silver with a nice black "Mazda" or "RX-8" decal would look really good. But red would match my car as well... So I reckon the decision will be taken in the store when I buy the paint... I reckon I'm going to get the decals from Polak graphics in the mean time. Red or silver, I'd definitely like the decal on it.

So the 18th it is then? I'm definitely in!

Msenzo - Thanks for the vote. I doubt we'll get enough members though, so I think we may have to go with the localised site for now... But the poll is still open for another 2 weeks or so, so we'll see...

I like where your head's at - Could be a real fun day and beneficial as well. The BMW skid pan course isn't too expensive either - R450 or so I think - I've been on that as well which is REALLY cool because the 330i that you use is also a rear wheel drive. They teach you how to recover from understeer, oversteer and straight line skids to steer around obstacles.

I'd love to see some pics of the strakes on your car as well! Post some pics as soon as you get some!

I have to admit I really do like the look of the 8 with strakes. I think I'm definitely going to get some - just need to get some cash in that I can allocate accordingly...

I read a post somewhere in the DIY section or something like that where the guy actually didn't follow the instructions for locating the strakes at all because he found that the top one didn't fit properly - so I think he actually moved the top strake up one notch and it lined up properly...

Can't wait to get mine!

good to see some other SA owners on this forum, i think the site idea is quite good, tired of listening to all the stuff the americans can get.

Plus i think we're far ahead of them in terms of some of the sound mod's that we can do here. they just complicate things,

Interesting to read your stats on the fuel and speed part, i've done a top of 235 and i normally get about 550k's on a full tank, only with 93, when i'm in JHB. on 95 i get about 490-500km,

I'm currently based in a town called Malelane very very close to the kruger park on the N4,

i'm keen on the breakfast run, but can only manage to do it if we all get to JHB,.

Lets try also to communicate via email, this forum takes ages to load any pages.

i noticed a big differenced after i put the KNN filter in, also it's nice to red line it a couple of times, and the most important thing is let the car warm up in the morning till it reaches about a quarter way on the temperaature guage.

for some reasoon, if you drive it cold, then it sucks more juice also on cooler days it does better than hotter ones, and i also do about 7 km on the freeway to work everymorning. i think that helps.

I drive around 40km to work on the freeway too - Strange - Is the KNN just a drop in filter, or a whole new induction system?

I'd be curious to try it - if it is just a drop in especially! Then I suppose you just have to manage the guys at the dealership - or perhaps replace with the original filter when you take it in for a service :)

Any power increase / difference? - I mean if I could stick in a new filter and increase my fuel consumption, I'm all for it!

Shame man - that must have been a really bad day.

I've got the 6 speed myself...

I'd love to do any runs, so we'll definitely do a run at the end of the April.

Phat - have a good one! Will you be online at all for us to arrange the run? Otherwise, perhaps we should exchange numbers or something...

I'd love to see the blue led's in action - I was considering it myself - Was thinking maybe red ones to match my car... I'd also like to look into the red footwell lighting that you can get... But I'm not sure I'd change the interior lights - I'll keep them stock for the wife :)

But I do reckon red puddle lights in the door mirrors would match the red lighting on the bottom of the inside of the door pretty well... Which led's did you get from autoillumination? Was the install easy?

Ok cool - perhaps I'll change my mind once I see the blue :)

Also, I tried autoillumination.com, but it comes up with some "Network Solutions" kinda search page - I'm sure that's not right - is there a dash like auto-illumination (tried that one as well) or something else that's in there. Also tried googling it and couldn't find the actual web page...

NVIGOR8. your sound install: the solution to sort your ''under power signal'' problem out is a LINE DRIVER. :) most std units have a 2v-2,5v rca line output voltage, the Line Driver will boost ur signal up to 9v which is too much anyways, but it's fully adjustable. any good brand will do the job. any power (12v) problems? and did u get a cap or better batt? i c u got the VMAX sub, i thought u had the HED. :dunce: Good Choice! I did a bit of searching around and found that I won't actually be able to change the rear bumper like I wanted :wallbash:

Turns out there are clips behind that section that hold the bumper onto the body...

I've test driven the 6 MPS and it really is boring. Got lots of pulling power, but the 8's pulling power is pretty comparable - you wouldn't notice a difference if you've been driving the 8 for a while and have gotten used to the high revving nature of the engine. As long as you drive the 8 properly, it'll pull as well, I suppose is what I'm trying to say... The 8 is still a MUCH better and MUCH nicer car to drive...

BTW - I found pics of a guy who has actually modifed his back spoiler, so I reckon it actually can be done - go figure...

So our sunday run.... did'nt quite go as planned. met @ eastgate, got my 8 cleaned cos IRQ5's 8 was already spotless. took a couple of pics and were on our way. started off nice with no traffic and cruising nicely @ 200kph. and then, air bag light came on AGAIN! was sorted out on thurs/fri. ok, then a funny kkkrrrrr noise outside car, ok, then battery light went on. W.T.F? then radiator light... we had only reached the pretoria split at this point. so we pulled over and 8 had over heated a bit of water boiling etc... fanbelt had snapped, kinda had a feeling when i saw it was perished and did ask Mazda 2 replace it while it was in 4 the clutch etc... they had the car 4 two days........... oh well we'll do another run in 3 weeks time. still went & had a good lunch after the 8 was towed 2 my house. will post our pics.

03-05-2007, 01:20 AM
howzit everyone? been busy my side... so end of the month has come and gone, busy working on the SA rx8 site will let u all know as soon as it's up n running. speaking of up n running... my 8 has been back at Mazda since wed last week after they sent some one 2 my house 2 put a fan belt on my 8 from ''another car'' cos they did'nt have stock! so on the way 2 have dinner @ my moms house, i hear the same noise the belt made when it snapped on the run... stopped 2 check, and it was half shot. so we drove slowly hoping 2 make it back 2 the house. managed 2 get 1 block away from my house and heard the belt finally snapped. so the 8's been there since wed and 2day they called saying they still trying 2 find the problem why the belts keep shredding. very frustrating, at least i got a courtesy car. ''when courtesy cars get abused'' he he.......

irq5
03-05-2007, 02:22 AM
Yeah, it has been pretty quiet around here. I must say I've been a bit busy myself.

Sorry to hear about the belt in your car going again! Why the hell can't these monkey's get it right for you? It can't be that hard to replace the fan belt, tighten to the correct tightness and give the car back to you working...

Anyway - I've also been working on a logo for us. I've got the emblem done pretty well (I think) but I just can't get the wording to look good. I'm going to give it another try tonight. Either way, I'll post what I have tomorrow for you to check out and let me know what you think - if it'll be good to use as our emblem...

Hope all goes well and your baby comes back to you in proper working order soon!

Hey guys

Sorry I haven't been here to reply lately. Took a week's leave last week and went down to the Drakensburg - in Nadia's car though - not taking my 8 on sand roads :)

I've come up with what I think is a really cool logo - I still have forgotten to post it. I'll post it tonight or tomorrow morning for you guys to check out.

Glad to hear we got some new members too - when we running next?

Also, glad to hear about your V belt and AC. My 8's probably going in tomorrow for a service and possible swap out of fuel pump. Strange power loss happening after 7k rpm. Not major but just noticable... Will keep you guys informed.
