This is for those that will change the stereo.. Like me.. :) I hope the door enclosure can take a good quality 6.5" component. I could not fit the 6.5" CDT Audio comps in my Prelude.. Had to settle for 5.25" :(

I'm leasing my Prelude too.. Would you like to see the list of performance mods? :D As long as its "bolt-on" and it can go back to stock.. I don't think the stereo in the RX-8 can rival good aftermarket amps/speakers/subs.. I might be wrong, we'll see.

I hear that a lot of cars with "Bose" systems are really some other company... Some manufacturers just use a minimal number of Bose components so that they can say "Bose" and really most of it is somone else.... Has anyone taken their system apart and found it to be made by another manufacturer than they were expecting?

Incidentally... I also hear that MOST cars with a facia like the RX-8 with integrated stereo are actually a 1 or 2 DIN standard space behind... you might be able to change the components if somone made a kit for the 8.

With an extenal tweeter, that midrange speaker selected would not need to be designed to replicate the upper range, so you would get cleaner sound throughout.

But looking at the other door in that same picture, I can't see the tweeter on the opposite side. It may be hidden in the shadows, but it is a good placement option.

In fact, with most factory separate systems that I've seen the "business end" (or even just the wiring schematics), the tweeter has a single capacitor to keep it from playing lower frequencies, but the midbass is still fed a full range signal. It's designed so that it doesn't produce as much high frequencies, but the problem is that it still "tries", which means that the setup will be no cleaner than a common coaxial setup.

Nothing a nice set of aftermarket comps with crossovers won't fix! :)

As I can see on this picture, I guess the size of the speakers are 6.5" (16,5cm). That included with the tweeters will give a nice sound, especially when it's a Bose system. With a Bose system you don't even need a subwoofer in the trunk. You always can if you really really want it, but the bass (and overall performance) of Bose speakers is really great.

There are some where there is an amplifier on the speaker itself, making it very difficult to replace the head unit w/o doing something with the speakers too. Then there are some, like on the current Miata, where the speakers are something like 1 or 1/2 ohms, instead of 4 ohms, which most aftermarket speakers are designed for. Again, this means that it is very hard to replace the speakers or head unit without replacing the other.

Umm.. my speaker covers in my car are just as big but speaker size is NOT 6.5" so unless someone can snap that off and measure the speaker, we won't know what's in there.
As for not needing a subwoofer, how can a 6.5" fullrange driver in the door without a proper enclosure reproduce frequencies below 100hz? Maybe for the "average consumer" the "bass" produced will be enough compared to the other stock systems out there but myself I will definitely be upgrading everything and adding a woofer or two.

Rockford Fosgate fanatic Q 6.5" component series can reach down to 40hz. And I thougt my velocity compo sets (5.25") can go down to 50hz. So I guess Bose will be around 50hz or even less. I've heard several Bose systems and I've heard my Velocity system with 30" 800watt woofer...
So for MOST people, this Bose system will be more than enough. It won't be giving the punch a woofer will give you, but it's definately a quality sound system. And if I had to choose between my 2.500€ sound system, with less trunk space and a cheaper Bose system also giving nice sound, I will choose the Bose system...

Just my 2 cents :)

But the components you mentioned will not be used by Bose.. I admit I've never heard a Bose system.. I guess we'll see once the car comes out.
