Well, I've had mine for a week now and have done a little over 750 miles as of last night. Yesterday, I did a 300 mile trip finally going over the 600 mile suggested break in period. Starting at max. 4rpm for the first 100, then 5k max. for the next and so on until 600 miles, after which I let it go and ran up to 9k+ in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Before I got over 600 miles, I ran up to 110-120 on I95 in clean areas with few cars. Doing this in 5th and 6th gear was no problem. The car was stable and quiet.
So, what do I think? This is a super car!:D Ok, it's not a drag racer, but I would've gotten a Mustang Cobra if that's what I wanted. The car handles beautifully and stops exceedingly well. And everything works. No CEL lights, no oil lights, nothing amiss, period. My first tank produced 16+mpg in mostly city driving, heavy traffic. The next tank gave 17+mpg. The next, on the highway driving 75-85mph (with the aforementioned occasional extra-legal runs to triple digits) produced 20.3mpg.
Now that I've run up to 9k+ a number of times, the car seems plenty strong to me and way fast enough for a sane person. It seems as fast or better than my 2000 CLK430 which had gobs of torque and 275hp...but lot more weight.
It will be nice if Mazda or the ecu comes up with 15-20hp, but I don't know if I'll notice. This is a truly useful sports car (but can't figure how they got two sets of golf clubs in the trunk...kids clubs I guess...or did they LIE?) I can sit in the back, but haven't ridden there yet. It's comfortable, easy to drive and fun to boot. It's so smooth I can hardly get used to it. My Miata makes all sort of noise, mostly nice sounds, but is still loud.
The stereo sounds better than the Bose in the Miata or the G500. The NAV system works fine; the dash lights are extra cool; it gets noticed where ever I go; and I enjoy driving it (much to the detriment of my Miata's feelings). What more can be said? If it continues to perform as it does now for many miles and doesn't require frequent visits to the shop, I will feel that I got my money's worth...no question. :D :D :D
