I live in Chicago and I'm wondering if it is just my heater or all RX-8's. It takes 10 to 20 minutes of driving to get the heater to blow moderately warm air. When I hard accelerate it will blow hot for a while but will drop back down top moderate after a while. How dose yours work?

I haven't had any problems with mine - doesn't heat up as fast as some cars I've owned, but not 10-20 minutes (and I'm in the same weather you are)

I have a scangauge, when the car coolant temps reach 170-180 degrees, the heater gets really hot. I think the car holds back giving you full heat till the engine is warmed up. Otherwise it'll end up cooling off the engine.

I'm another 250 miles north of you and it takes my car about 10-15 miles to warm up. After about a mile I hit the highway doing 65 and then it's still not very warm. Currently the temps are around 20F, and I think the engine just doesn't create enough internal heat to compensate for the low outside temps. I did bring it in this week for the recall and also mentioned that my engine temp drops when I turn on the heat. They did a coolant check and "bleed" the system. After a big burp, they noticed that I had about a gallon of "air" in my system and needed to fill up another gallon of coolant. They assured me the temp is now better and that the temperature wouldn't fluctuate anymore.
But thats not the case and the heater still just makes a lot of noise.
My worry is only that with the engine temp not running in the optimal range, that my engine just may be running too rich.
So in a nutshell ... nope ... mine's as bad as yours.

Usually I let my car warm up for 10 mins in the morning before I drive to work, and by the time I get in the car its usually fairly warm.

You're being a bit tricksy with that response... ;)

My other car is a 10 year old Hyundai and its heater is FAR better than the 8. Although, with an insulated garage it's not too bad in the morning, but the drive home is brrr....cold. At least the "butt warmers" work nicely.

I had trouble with my heating control knob....sometimes it would blow just hot air and sometimes just cold air....when i took it to my dealer they knew exactly what the problem was...they have had trouble with the heater control.....this might not be the problem your having but they fixed mine free im still under warranty....and it usually takes 10min. for any car to heat up....unless you keep it in the garage :Eyecrazy:

How do you bleed it out?

Easiest way is to jack up the front end of the car as high as possible, pull the filler cap and run the motor until it starts to warm up and then turn it off. As it cools, add distilled water.
You may have to do it twice, but that usually does the trick for me.
