Where did you guys get the strakes?

I didn't want to go too dark, but after seeing it I think I could've gone a little darker on the back window. But then again, the visibility out the windows at night is good, so I'm happy with it.

Side front windows - 50% (just a little darker than legal in CA :cool: )

Thanks Voodoo...they look great. Saw a SL500 today with the strakes and now I want them. Sounds like they are easy to install. Any issues with paint contact (scratches)?

Hi Mike! Thanks for the compliment (thanks to Rich606 too! :) ).

I thought any tint on the driver/passenger windows was illegal in CA too, but the guy at the place I had mine done told me that 70% was legal in CA on the driver/passenger windows. He had a film called "Ultra Clear UV" or something like that that he said had 85% light transmission (70% combined with glass) that was legal in CA. He recommended the 50% for aesthetics and said that almost no one has problems with it. He said if you get a ticket, they'd remove it at no charge.

With regards to your concern about the strakes scratching the paint. They have a cushion on the back side to prevent this. I have not received my car yet, but looked at one at the dealership that had strakes because I have the same concern. You could clearly see that the strakes were cushioned.

I should have my rx-8 (Silver) on the 14th. (jan) I plan on doing mirror tints on BACK 3 wins. and 35% on fronts..too keep it legal. The back three are basically going to look like mirrors..cant SEE in at all.but can see out.


Silver fade basically..black to silver. the front win is getting 8 " down I think..I still have to check that out. But thats going limo tint. Thats the look...it will look smooth, yet classy when finished.. I need to work on the brake calipers next....black with Silver RX-8 logo.

38% stealth tint all around - Got pulled over the other day for window tint violation - copper said that they were 28% - according to his window tint checker gizmo thingy - $89 ticket for minding my own business and doing 42mph in a 50mph! Unbelievable!

Yeah the fronts are, but it's (FL) legal all around:

Fr Sides: 35%
Rr Sides: 20%
Back: 20%

According to FedEx tracking, my pillar accents should be arriving from Canzoomer on Wednesday. Once I get them installed, I'll post pix. I'm also supposed to get the rear fog light at the same time, so I may just wait until I have that installed. I'm not doing the light install alone, I am getting help. But - I'll take pix of that and post a DIY s-b-s on it. :D

Long story short, my car was SUPPOSED to make it to me in Germany by the 5th so I hoped to have a new pic of the tint (7% done in Florida). Here's one I took (with my phone so it sucks) when it was at the port in Florida. Obviously no Volks yet (they were still on the way from Japan) but I'll post pics as soon the wing and wheels are on!
