It really is a pretty city with both the river and lake fronts. The city has keep the lakefront mostly park area and is trying to redevelop the riverfront area from it's 1900's industrial roots.
The last picture is of Lower Wacker Drive. This is accually at ground level. Most of the "Loop" busness district is raised up 20 ft. The riverfront pictures location is all most at ground level. The pictures across the river show how the city is built up.
