I attended the Sydney Motor Show yesterday with the fam and had a pleasant wander around.

I thought I'd start a thread so those who attend can share some pics with the rest of us.

To kick it off, I'll share some of my ordinary shots.

Here's the Saab concept, which was probably the most impressive thing there (IMHO). It was completely driveable and forget about ciao's scissor doors ( ;) ) - imagine rocking up to the local shops and hitting the button on this thing.

What are ya gonna do with your old F1 cars - hang 'em on a wall of course. ;)

http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o49/RevolverRX8/th_DSC00319.jpg (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o49/RevolverRX8/DSC00319.jpg)

BTW, the default option for manufacturers without a decent concept car was to display an old(ish) race car for the masses to ooh and aah at - e.g. Suzuki, Renault, Mitsubishi (mind you Honda did have a concept as well).

Of course Ferrari, Bentley, et al didn't need to bother with such trivial drawcards.

Hey, I just realised that Aston Martin weren't there (or if they were, they had the smallest stand in history). :spank:

I'll post some more later - social commitments beckon...

Here's the Honda concept (new Legend??). Interesting light treatment and the colour was to die for - love to see an 8 in this colour (photos don't do it justice).

The new Alfa. I must say, after bagging this a little on a couple of forums, it was more impressive in the metal. Still a bit puffed up but maybe the Alfa grrls had me in a happier disposition. :D:

The Kabura concept. Again, this looked much better in the metal than it does in photographs. The links to the 8 are apparent. However, the seats look bloody awful - like some cheap outdoor setting chairs picked up from a Domayne sale.

One for the old buggers. A similar view to the one most of Jack Brabham's competitors had when he was dominating F1 with his Repco weapon.

Honda has recently released the new legend , so this must relate to something else they have in the pipeline interesting . :)

I really must learn to get the whole car in the frame! :spank: :mdrmed:

I have a hard time getting the room to do so in the crowds.

Pity I couldn't take shots of the other models on display either. Some very tasty bodywork about. :aroused: :cwm27:

BTW, there was an 8 on display (weird green colour) but it was tucked away behind the Kabura "feature wall" with the MPS models.

Talk about hiding your lights under a bushel.

Now come on guys - I'm sure I wasn't the only one in attendance. Let's have your pics from the Show. They have to be better than mine... :bootyshak

I went, but didn't take a camera. On the whole, I thought it was a little disappointing. IMO, the classics in the Shannons auction display were by far the most interesting cars there.

this is the honda sports 4 concept running on the accord platform.
it uses the new honda SH-AWD system (torque-biasing all-wheel-drive system).

maybe this will be the new accord in 1-2 years:)

We went... lasted about 30 minutes before we got sick of the crowds & went to cockle bay wharf and got drunk instead... :p..

TT is nice, but no... couldn't do it...

F430 Spyder - I'll take 7 thanks!!...

had a 10 minute sit and demo of the RS4... my Mrs was in the drivers seat - with the key in the ignition- how she resisted starting it I dunno... we've crossed it off the list of potential new cars though after speaking to mate who has driven one a fair bit- it's going to be too dull, and it's hard to drive in traffic( lightweight flywheel and a clutch with no feel) and the pedal heights are all wrong... still going to go and test drive it though- just cos.... :p..

shame it was a non porsche year... just have to wait til December went we get to drive the entire range in one day.. :D

Timing is everything with beating the crowds. Weekday is best but if you have to go on a weekend (as I did), go just after lunch (most people have been and gone and are eating or getting drunk at Cockle Bay :mdrmed: ). I actually found the show less crowded this year and the aisles seemed a bit wider. Even access to the concept car stands was easier (although Ferrari always needs a little patience).

Agreed on the F430 (damn, they're a sexy beast  ) and the TT. I've heard similar about the RS4 and I think they're too conservative in the looks dept too. Sound wicked though.

Sigh, just gonna have to save my money until I can get into Porsche territory... :bootyshak

yeah we were slack and decided mid sunday arvo was out only time to be able to make it comfortably AND still get drunk!...

we had BIG chat to a mate of ours who has owned lots of porkas, and now deals in prestige stuff, and given our fussiness, requirements, and love of cars, he reckons there is only 1 choice - wait and buy a Porka... most likely a Boxster S, but I have a feeling my better 1/2 will fall in love with the 997 S, and then we'll have to wait some more...

I couldnt stop drooling over the Saab concept car..damn thats HOT (except its got a fugly arse). The R8 was my next favourite - very, stylish IMO.

The Kabura does look really good in the flesh, the interior wasnt that spectacular to be honest. Whats with these new cars having really crappy looking backsides? I was VERY disappointed with Mazda for hiding the rx8 in the corner. Seriously WTF is wrong with these people? I had to ask the Mazda guys where teh RX8 was cos I couldnt even see it....tsk tsk tsk

I liked the Hummer, might even get one when it gets released next year for $55k!!!!! The interior sucked on the Hummer htey had @ the show but the H3's have some really nice interior options which make it look uber snazzy.

The rally car hooked up to the PS2 gave me the shits though. The steering was out of calibration and the gears were going opposite. Up for downshit and DOWN for upshift..no wonder I got beaten :P

Overall, this years motor show was good. We went on Tuesday after lunch so it wasnt that busy and this gave us a good opportunity to take time @ each stand.

I did take pics, will upload later.

WTF is good about those ugly, heavy heaps of crap? I wouldn't piss on one if it was on fire to be honest.

Off-roading!

I dont know, I've always loved hummers. I think age, and the rap/hiphop culture I grew up around has a lot to do with.

Fair enough, I can see the cultural connection. Mind you, there's a magnificent send up of the 'gotta have' car thing in the film Get Shorty when Travolta's character accquires a people mover. Good soundtrack too btw (if you like that kinda thing).

But as for off-roading, from what I understand from offroading mates, these things may be good for getting punished in the desert but they're hopeless for bush trails. Too wide and some other problems I can't remember now. Apparently, the average Cruiser, Pajero, Disco will murder them offroad.

And you thought fuel costs on the 8 were high... :Freak_ani :mdrmed:

I know what you mean kunz, but for me it is the totally weird and completely illogical attraction I have to the Chrysler 300C SRT8. I know it's not necessarily even best in class -- the HSV Grange is well ahead -- but somehow, if I was about 2" taller and 50Kg heavier, there's no question I'd shave my head, wear dark suits, a fedora and dark Ray Bans, and drive around in one of those, constantly puffing on a stogie. Of course, there's a risk I'd soon be dead, but in the line of business I'd be in, well, dems de breaks! :)

Careful Timbo! Soon you'll be ordering some homies over with blow torches to get medieval on someone's ass!!! :mdrmed:

I love the looks of the 300C myself, but that's about the only attraction when compared in the cold light of day to its competition. And have you seen the poky back seat?

Still, with these wheels on a black one... :cwm27:

The 300C (sedans) looks absolutely awesome. Please dont get the touring/wagon model though as they look really crap.
