tr186fla 10-21-2006, 07:59 PM Evening, I just found this forum, and am looking for any input on 07 RX8 Grand Touring edition. I realy like the looks of this car, and have owned several Mazda's in the past, 6's 626's , 323's ... I see that there was a recall on 06 engines any comments on the 07, also I have seen several comments in regard to MPG and HP.. and thoughts appreciated,
Brian'
Raptor75 10-21-2006, 10:12 PM 07 are OK in regards to the engine recall it only effects 04,05 and some 06.
Fuel mileage sucks for short. My highway is OK at 18 to 24mpg but my city mileage is 11.5 to 12.5 mpg. This thing sucks gas like no other car or truck on the road.
HP is good but there are better out there, the car really shines in its overall performance (handling, acceleration, breaking, ride, ect...) and dose it all with great looks and good practicality (4 seats)
UFGator12 10-21-2006, 10:30 PM Yayyyyyy, another gas mileage thread.
I get 17 all city mpg. But, I get about 25 highway. Also, I used to get 15 mpg when the car was new, but with age my gas mileage has gotten better.
Easy_E1 10-21-2006, 11:32 PM Just buy the car ,,you will not be disapointed. Have you driven one yet? I love this car, and you will too. Cause that's all you have to do. And I don't mean around the block. Take her out on the freeway and if you can find some twisty roads.
CarAndDriver 10-21-2006, 11:42 PM Welcome. Search and ye shall find.
nycgps 10-22-2006, 12:09 AM This is your answer to quality craftmanship, style, and mpg.

New Yorker 10-22-2006, 07:55 AM Fuel mileage sucks for short. My highway is OK at 18 to 24mpg but my city mileage is 11.5 to 12.5 mpg. This thing sucks gas like no other car or truck on the road.I think it's fair to say the RX-8's mileage is "disappointing," but to say it "sucks gas like no other car or truck on the road" is, well… just plain wrong—many cars and trucks do much worse. (Raptor75 may be understandably frustrated, as he seems to get—by far—the worst city mileage on this forum. Most 8 owners do better, reportedly getting between 14-17 mpg city.) Overall mileage appears to vary widely—some getting only 13.7 mpg; others averaging much, much higher. Curiously, mileage seems to be determined as much by the luck of which 8 you draw as it is by driving style. (As for me, I live in NYC and average 19.5 mpg—70% highway, 30% city—and I've gotten between 22 and 23 mpg all highway.)
tr186fla 10-22-2006, 08:21 AM One more question.. automatic or manual? what do most of you guys go for..
Raptor75 10-22-2006, 09:41 AM Go manual, if you enjoy aggressive driving the automatic will leave you a little disappointed as opposed to the manual.
mtrevino 10-22-2006, 10:40 AM One more question.. automatic or manual? what do most of you guys go for..
Manual... unless you have foot problems or live in a city where traffic is always congested. If the later and you buy the 8, move to a place where the roads are curved and hilled. You will be happy.
Easy_E1 10-22-2006, 11:21 AM Pick the one that YOU want.
deejaydead 10-22-2006, 12:54 PM Raptor, I actually am getting the same mpg as you city, and less on highway.
I love my 8, and you don't buy a sports car for gas milage, you buy it because you enjoy driving. And that, my friends, is the biggest reason to buy an 8. I've had faster cars, slower cars, bigger and smaller cars. None of them have driven as well as the 8.
SLWASFK 10-22-2006, 02:31 PM If you're worried about MPG, the Wankel isn't for you. If you're worried about power, the 13B-MSP isn't for you. if you're worried about reliability, then the 13B-MSP is perfect, if you like the rotary and the lack of gas mileage and the MSPs lack of ability to make big numbers.
ken-x8 10-22-2006, 02:51 PM ... I see that there was a recall on 06 engines...
The recall was for all engines from the beginning through mid-06. It was just a reflash of the engine control unit They've updated that a few times before, but this time there was a possibility of cat damage so it was an emissions deal.
Echoing deejaydead's sound advice, buy an RX-8 if you're going to enjoy driving it. If you're going to worry about mileage, or worry about (rather than revel in) its unique aspects, it's not really the right car for you.
But if you want something that corners on rails, winds to 9000 rpm without strain, and turns heads when people see it, the RX-8 ought to be high on your list.
