I did a search on this and didn't seem to find any matching results. The paint on my 05 Shinka is either flaking or spotting. I beleive its spotting. They are white and look like water marks and they don't come off after each wash? They are not very big, but they are all over. Is this a common problem or am I a unique case? Any suggestions or might they give me a new paint job? Thanks.

I think they may be dropings from trees. They do come off.

No, do not use anything other than car-paint safe soap. Post a pic and I'm sure some of the experts here can tell you what is up.

I too have an 05, and have no issues with my paint.

 

Hard Water spots from dirty standing hard water... the only things that you should use to remove it : car detailing claybar, paint cleaner wax, fine low abrasive car polish (not some turtle wax crap), meguiars scratch x, meguiars color x, or some sort of meguiars or mothers cleaner wax.... readup at www.autopia.org (click LEARN adn read the articles).

 

Well I know someone on this forum who doesn't wax every few months...........

The water spots occur on dark-colored cars (a Black Cherry Mica Shinka applies) these spots are calcium deposits from water drops that have evaporated and left behind the calcium, the sun then cakes them into your paint. a cheap fix is vinegar (the acid will take the calcium off, but wash away all the vinegar). I suggest you invest in a Mr. Clean auto dry carwash system, you just switch it to autodry when you're done washing (3 times a month if you have the time) and the water is filtered which washes away the calcium-filled water.

 

^ Waxing has nothign to do with water sports. a properly sealed car will have water spots too. Invest in a mr.cealn auto dry car wash system? why? it WILL NOT remove the waterspots. water spots can occur when the car is parked outside when its raining.

 

Is the sun up yet? I want to see!

 

Vinegar (or a cheap wine) followed by distilled water and wipe dry. On Windows Bon Ami is good - water spots can form on top of wax in desert areas and if you wax over the white mess can get caught inbetween wax jobs so you have to strip off everything.

I would clay bar the car if you have time. I also have used the meguiars spray detailer in between cleanings to help prevent the calcium deposits but eventually they show up.

They look like flakes to me. i thought they were flakes or dust particles. theyre probably pollen or sap. im guessing dried sap if youre talking about those tiny dots.

 

Yeah, so a clay bar will do the best for dried sap? They are on window panels too, so I makes me think its not flakes, thank god.

 

If you can feel tiny little bunchs after you wash the car its most likely sap. it can also be fall out. heres a better pic of a car with major fall out.


Tiny white dots everywhere. it was parked in a parking garage and they were cleaningt he floors causing dirt to rise in the air and settle (and stick) on the paint. YOu can remove fall out or sap with clay bar. clay bar IMO is the best on sap since most "bug, sap, and tar" removers dont remove much stuck on sap/fall out. claybar also lifts away contaminates (like metallic falls outs which come from construction areas, train rails, etc etc... they settle on your paint and they start to rust and spread if you dont take care of it). heres a lil read up on clay bars
