Tucson, Az area RX8 owners club?

I am interested in forming a Tucson, Az area RX 8 owners club for meets and events, as well as possibly to coordinate events with the Phoenix area owners. Let me know what you think.

Sanguine_Dark 05-26-2004 07:55 AM

Fleck,

Hi there! I'm one of the Phoenix folks. We've got a whole bunch of us up here. So far I only know of one other Tucson owner. His nick is Edge. What color did you get? Maybe we can set up a Casa Grande run sometime?

Fleck 05-26-2004 11:59 AM

Sanguine_Dark,

Thanks for the invite. I really appreciate it. I saw your post list of Phoenix owners and was interested in joining your group. Thought I would send out a post to the Tucson area, but it does not seem there are many down here. I have only seen about four around town so far. It would be great to get together with other owners, because the RX-8 is such an awesome car. I have learned a lot about the car from some very knowledgeable folks right here on the RX-8 Club.com. I have a 2004 Velocity Red GT, 6Spd, Appearance, Two tone chapparel/black leather.

Sanguine_Dark 05-26-2004 07:32 PM

Fleck,

No problems....I'll add you to my list of AZ owners and keep you up to date. Shot you a pm about this saturday (lunch meet). Hope to meet you someday!

Jesse

09Factor 05-27-2004 08:46 PM

I know it's a long drive from Tucson for lunch, but what the heck. The 8 is great to drive.

Welcome to here Fleck !

stokescr 06-05-2004 07:17 PM

I live in Benson, AZ. I just purchased a 2004 RX8, Grand Touring Package, Navigation System, Spoiler, etc. Would be interested in meeting anyone from Tucson. Maybe we could get a club going. We have TWO RX8's in Benson......both Silver.

:D :D

poolsidenaz 06-05-2004 08:36 PM

Hi y'all! I'm in the Phx group along with Sanguine and 09Factor and Mattman. I'm here to say a Casa Grande meeting would be cool....I believe there's some shopping there yah? :D

RX8's....lunch...RX8's....shopping....oh yahhhhhhhhh! No doubt we'll have a gathering of Tuscon & Phx in the future and I'm looking forward to it!

09Factor 06-05-2004 09:06 PM

Casa Grande would be do-able. Rx8+Wife+ shopping = I can go !!
All I need is When..

Sanguine_Dark 06-05-2004 09:12 PM

Casa Grande sounds cool. Anyone know any good roads in that area? Good driving roads or picturesque?

AZRX8Fan 06-06-2004 01:30 PM

Another in Tucson

I'm up for forming a Tucson group, and a Casa Grande run would be excellent.

Great. Let's form a Group in Southern Arizona and do a meet in Casa Grande with the Phoenix area owners.

As you are aware, there are two Outlet strip malls in Casa Grande right off of I-10, so those would be good locations for lunch/shopping. Since things are so flat out in that area, don't know of many winding roads. As an option to driving up I-10, I thought the Southern Arizona RX-8 owners could take the longer, scenic way up to Casa Grande via 77/79 to Florence and then over to Casa Grande. I know out on 79 between Oro Valley and Florence it is a pretty wide open, two-laner which could make for interesting "leap frog" passing as a Group. Kind of like a bike peleton taking turns in the front. Thanks all for responding and I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Sanquine-Dark, if want to propose a date and time we can throw it out there for any takers.

Gents,

I'm forwarding this thread to several rotary owners that I know in the Tucson area. Most own First, Second, and Third generation RX-7s (1979-1995), but they may be interested in hooking up with you and getting a rotary club or RCCAZ Tucson Chapter off the ground!!

Hot diggity! This thread is making the rotary rounds.

I feel a group hug coming on :D

47samurai 06-07-2004 06:50 PM

Keep me posted guys. I don't do much socializing but am interested in the tech stuff. I have a 95 RX7 and was pondering an RX-8 for a possible future car. Kevin Fox-TUCSON

Tim just shot me this link, I am one of the aforementioned Tucson rotary enthusiasts. I currently own a 1988 10th Anniversary TII, which is torn apart in my garage at the moment getting much needed detail work to the engine bay.

As Tim mentioned, there is a loose knit community of rotary owners, we usually get together for BBQs, etc but nothing terribly formal. I think last Christmas we had a party/gift exchange. If the RX-8 people get something going, I would be more then happy to attend (assuming the 7s are invited..:))

BTW, those RX-8s are sweet looking rides! I am dying to get a ride in one!!

Hmm, I just had my post deleted :(
I have 3 FC's: 88 10th AE with fully body kit and a killer motor to boot, a 91 GXL red with grey fender and my soon to be daily driver an IS300 yellow 89 GXL.

In short, like Jarrett said, there are actually quite a few of us Rx7 owners in town, we just aren't very organized. There are usually weekly gatherings to work on one car or another. We have done an occasional BBQ or gift exchange as well.

I'm down for helping to get a club going however I can help.

Look forward to meeting you.

-Chris

All I can say Chris is "3 rotaries....? Man... Robin sure must love you."

carx7 06-08-2004 05:10 PM

haha, got that right. :D I"ll be selling red beater as soon as I finish swaping motors bewteen the two cars.... Then I'll be down to two rotaries and may need to add a 3rd with 3 rotors ;)

Sylan 11-26-2004 08:46 PM

Hey everyone. I'm an enthusiest of the car, I started off with liking the looks but learning that it came with the rotary sparked my interest quite a bit more. I hope to own my own RX-8 by march, and I'd be really interested in being a part of this.

ArsenicDrone 01-30-2005 05:05 PM

I moved to Tucson about 6 months ago and have had my RX-8 since just before Christmas. I'm up for some Tucson socializing.

When I lived in Tuscon there were only a handful of 8's I seen, most had some elderly person behind the wheel.

09Factor 02-16-2005 06:09 PM

Nothing like bringing an old thread back to life J/K

I never see any 8's when I drive around Phx. Hmmm maybe I'll have to put a Tuscon drive together........

Hey Red,

The wife and I saw you a couple of months ago. We were up checking out our land in Camp Verde (Salt Mine Rd) and saw you at the convenience store next to McD's. We were in our Honda CRV, so we blended in with everyone else. When you left, I noticed how cool your exhaust note sounded. Are you running that thing with a mid pipe? It was pretty loud, but cool as hell. Next time I promise to say HI!

Tim

poolsidenaz 09-16-2006 12:23 PM

Antione, there are some AZMazdaClub members in Tuscon if you have any interest in checking them out? They're a good group! Click here: http://www.mazdasports.com/joomsmf/forums/ The Tuscon folks that I know are Revenant (Sabrina), Killroy (Tim), Repo2142 (Lisa), Sihaya (Lisa2), Daver (Dave). There are more I just can't think of them.

:)

Antione902 09-17-2006 07:13 PM

Was a group ever established in Tucson? I'm a 8 owner and would be interested in joining.

hi I have an 05 and the engine is no longer working since it is passed the 93,000 mile mark. Do you have any recommendations as to where I could purchase a new/ used engine?

it is an automatic. I first thought it was the starter and it’s just not turning over. You can hear it wanting to start but it doesn’t. I took it to a mechanic and advised that I would need a replacement engine.

auto or m/t? how do you know you need a new engine? it could be something simple and cheap to fix. did you get a rotary specific compression test? read the new owners threads at least twice each

again you need a rotary specific compression test, it will give you three # for each rotor and the cranking rpms. total of 7 #s are needed. that said the 04-05 autos use the low power 4 port engine which are the most expensive to replace and least wanted by anyone. contact a mazda dealer for a reman but get a comp test first, unless you like wasting money in which case ill message you my venmo and you can send me some cash

a7ie23 02-10-2021 11:25 AM

Okay, I live in Tucson do you have any recommendations of where I could get that test done? Hahaha I definitely don’t like wasting money so no need for the Venmo info. lol. I really appreciate your help on this. I would like to get my car back as soon as possible.

200.mph 02-10-2021 11:43 AM

read the new owners threads. mazda dealer can do the test $100-200. i think black halo racing is still in az, google them

a7ie23 02-10-2021 12:07 PM

I will. Thank you!
