I'll agree with you that there are dyno gains from some exhausts, but on a dollar/HP level, they aren't what piston people expect. I wouldn't buy an exhaust for the gains on the 8. They are just too low to notice. And tuning improvements on completely stock 8s can produce gains as well, more than any exhaust I have seen, although still relatively small compared to piston engines.
Don't get me wrong, I am stock party because of finances and partly because I find stock still immensely satisfying, and I have to be 100% that any given mod won't ruin that before I am willing to consider it.
I just gave the quick canned answer, in response to your fairly canned answer. Though I doubt we will get far with intellect in the SoCal lounge while they hump your leg.
Hrm. Someone who has indications of knowing what they are talking about...

Well to truly realize the gains you MUST dispose of the catalytic converter, and then increase the diameter of the piping back. THEN lean out the fuel mix to really leverage it on the 8. It's also a nice step before forced induction which everyone knows is the only way to true power in the 8.

I already can, and do, regularly reach triple digits, and well past. Getting more power only gets me there faster, with less time to enjoy it, and moves my top end farther into deadly and arrestable territory. I have driven a 300whp 8, and granted, the tune wasn't done, but what I could feel of what was supposed to be happening, wasn't satisfying. Part of the reason FI hasn't really appealed to me. Although if I went FI, it would be for a power 'bump', not 'true power'.
Agreed. Tuning before changes is mildly retarded at best if they are anywhere near each other in time. Though don't forget the header, and the point that not everyone is dissatisfied with the power the N/A 8 has.
