Smog Question: AZ vs NV

Let me start by stating I'm not looking for a smog hookup.

I'm debating on an issue and would like to find out which states has the less stringent emission standards. From my limited knowledge on the subject its looks like AZ is the better place. Do any of you guys have experience on the subject?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Anyone can pass smog in Nevada with a midpipe on it is very easy. You just reset your cat code with an obd2 scanner and then drive it a bit until it has one emissions test set as incomplete. Then you go to the emissions place and it will pass you.

The other option is to have a friend that lives in pahrump or any place that does not require smog. You can set your billing address for your cell phone to their address and then use that as proof you live out there. That used to work in many places I'm not sure if you need more proof than that now though.

Thanks for the replay, but I'm looking for a bit more technical information on the test.

Basically, what I'm looking for is a comparison between the tests, i.e., is one state's minimum standard higher than another, is the idle test harder to pass than a dyno, etc...

My location is in Maricopa county so I would not be able to reap the benefits of La Paz county. Yuma county might be an option though.

in CA it depends on the county you live in, and it sounds like Nevada and Arizona are the same way.

some places in CA do no smog test, but starting 1/1/13 every 96+ car will go from a tailpipe test to just plugging into the OBD port.

the OBD port is the best possible test, as actual emissions aren't checked, it just looks for codes and probably to see if the monitors have run (and passed). from experience an Rx8 will pass all the monitor tests, without much cat, and it sounds like a straight pipe even can work.

Well Nevada only has the obd2 test, that is it. There is no tailpipe test done here it is basically "do you have a CEL or not". No clue about Arizona.

OBD2 test only and the gas cap test. no tail pipe test for years +96 like xexok stated. And thats for Maricopa county.
