Sounds like fun. But so far...

Benjamz 02-14-2009 12:52 PM

Well, I will be competing to see where I'm at with the other rookies. This will be my first/last race with the car in stock form, power wise with the exception of my cat-back and a K&N filter.

Button Willow, ROUND 1

OK. There were 3 of us there. Please chime in you other 2 guys. The other blue RX8 did really good, he had some track tires on. The black RX8 got like a 2.11 I think with those Dunlop Star speed/spec tires. The black car also had some nice volks. I hope you other two guys chime in and give your Info.

I started out with a 2.20 on some 235/45/17 Falken 912's. Tires squealing around every turn. I had toooooooo much tire preasure. Around 46psi hot. I took it down to 39psi and did a 2.16. I took it down to 37psi hot and My final time for the day was a 2.13. Not bad for the tires. I wonder how I'd do on those Dunlops Star spec........

I had the Rotary Extreme dual cat back, BHR coil kit (freaking flawless, never skipped a beat and never felt a loss of power), kn air filter, tein H-tech and progress anti-sway bars.

Alot of poeple were using those Dunlops and it looks like the tire is the shizznizle.

I talked to a guy with a civic Si (the new one) and he had my tires before. He said that when he switched from the Falkens to the Dunlops he gained 5 sec. Now I'm sure he's better from practice, but 5 seconds is alot. TIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My next investment will be some koni yellow shocks because my stock front shock are leaking now and those Dunlops. Hopefully I'll get this stuff before the willow springs event, I'll be good to go!!!!

I have a video of me chasing down a 350z, I'll post it as soon as I can get some video editing software.

Atom, they moved the event to april 10th!!!!!!

They also listed our times at a 2.12 for you and a 2.14 for me. But my wife and son clearly heard them say 2.11 somthing as you passed by and 2.13 somthing as I passed by.

I need those freakin Dunlops so I can turn off the DSC. I need the DSC on for the Falken 912's...lol

shadycrew31 04-04-2009 04:04 AM

dammit. I wanna go sooo bad.. 2010 here i come..

Benjamz 04-04-2009 05:18 AM

shadycrew31, don't wait, get the experinece now, then in 2010 you'll be that much more ready. I'm just getting me feet wet and learning the car. I plan to have the car s/c for 2010 season. But if I can't get my handles down, the power will be useless!!!!!!

I need a new clutch and pads and I need to reseal the oil pan. and right now that's just to much money I just moved into a new place so yea that comes first then the car.

I'm ok with it.. I'm waiting for next years track season to start my buddy will be back from deployment and well be hitting the track together and hopefully lining up more sponsors for the team becuase of it.

Benjamz 04-04-2009 12:31 PM

Awsome, I hope to see you next year then, or maybe this year at sevenstock.

Benjamz 04-05-2009 11:24 AM

So does anyone else plan to make it to Willow Springs at the end of May?

Daggoth 04-05-2009 02:22 PM

Ive been wanting to track my 8 what does it take to go? Helmet roll cage etc?

Benjamz 04-05-2009 03:29 PM

Only need a spec 2005 full face helmet, plan on spending 300. Thats all you need to get on the track, and the factory tow hooks...lol

Daggoth 04-05-2009 03:44 PM

lol how are the classes where you go? what cars with what mods do you see or do you run full stock?

Benjamz 04-05-2009 06:29 PM

Atom just has anti sway bars and rays rims with dunlop star-spec, he ran a 2.12 according to the final times, thats alot faster then some modded cars. Suspension and tires is where you'll pick up the most time.

I've ran against a few stock 8's in the straight and beat them, but you see Atom's time was 2 sec faster with more track time and better tires.

SUSPENSION and TIRES first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daggoth 04-05-2009 06:47 PM

What suspension you run? Im looking at some tien springs and wanna get anti sway too

WhiteSnowflake8 04-05-2009 07:03 PM

Let me ask this, any one running a different CAT than stock?? I have a turbo on my car with a straight pipe but want to run street class and i need a cat. So im wondering what aftermarket where good enough.

Also i would love to run at willows but im stuck in MW!! lol

atom 04-06-2009 02:36 AM

well, my 2:11 was in practice/qualifying, i did a 2:12 in the first time attack, aand i have no idea what time in the second, they never posted them. i thought i did pretty well, but like i said, was just tired.. almost didnt care any more. i dont consider time attack very serious, since it seems to be all about car upgrades, rather than driver upgrades... ;-)
