New RX8 Owner + First oil change = New Engine

Picked up a 2005 RX8 exactly one week ago. Went in for an oil change so I can start fresh as to knowing when the next oil change will be needed. Mechanic at the dealership says he noticed my engine running lean and something more or less wrong with the oil that was previously in it.

Recommended a new engine, said the warranty will cover it.

Great.

There was and still are no symptoms of engine failure but I'm no mechanic.

...oh and the eight needs a new radiator. :\

Wow.. Sucks to hear. But hey, you're getting a new motor with a new car purchase. Score!

SubliminalPollution 03-03-2012 09:09 PM

Yeah I guess so. I'm just bummed that I won't get to drive it for about a week.

Neiron09 03-03-2012 09:48 PM

I'd be happy for a new motor lol.

SubliminalPollution 03-04-2012 12:36 PM

Don't get me wrong, I am too. I just figured I'd be driving my new FE not leaving it at a dealer for over a week. So far I've owned it a week and now I won't have it for a week. Lol.

My buddy got a little G20 and left to Mexico on vacation for 2 weeks. I made fun of him because he got a new car and couldn't drive it. Guess it's my turn, Karma the neighborhood hoe.

I've got a question for you Subliminalpollution, when you bought the car did it come with a warranty? I'm asking cuz I'm trying to by my first 8 and dont want to end up paying for an engine if it needs it.
Thanks

My RX8's basic manufacturers warranty ended in '09. I was aware of this because I did my research on this vehicle. I also researched everything any buyer should do. Recalls, defects and I even did my own CARFAX report just to see if there was any inconsistencies from the one the dealer showed me. I also poked around this forum for everything and anything I could use to my benefit. I came across the "Recalls / Special Service Programs" and found the rotary engine core warranty had been extended to 8 years or 100k miles, whichever comes first. This helped me make the choice as to if I wanted to make the purchase, which I did.

I came to the dealer for 5 days during my lunch break to check out the car and finally decided she was the one. :D

My HUGE blunder was not asking the dealer to let me take it to an actual Mazda dealership for a check up. I totally would have paid the money to have it looked at.

Regardless of this mistake I ended up taking the car. I did buy an 3rd party extended service warranty that covers the engine and all inter ally lubricated parts, transmission and all its internally lubricated parts and a bunch of other important things are covered.

I knew this was a something that could happen and was truly prepared.

No money is coming out of my pocket for the engine swap, clutch pedal assembly that they are replacing. If the catalytic converter shows cracking the emission warranty will take care of that. I'm only paying for a new radiator and belts. After the new engine is in I'll still have 1 year and 3 months on the engine warranty and after that I have my extended warranty I purchased to keep me safe, just incase. :)

Thanks.
Yeah I've found one 8 that's had the engine recall taken care of but if for some reason I'm unable to get that one, there's another with 95,000 on it,basically I just want to be able to get a new engine from Mazda(if needed) last car I bought I ended up buying an engine for it within two months and don't wanna go threw that again.

Anyway,I wrote Mazda too see what they have to say,I've heard the engine recall ends this July, but I'm not buying from a dealer so I just want to make sure I get the 8 I really want and not get stuck.

SubliminalPollution 03-05-2012 12:17 AM

Just make sure you check out the eight thoroughly. I'd definitely get a compression test done before you sign/buy. Also have a dealership run a check on what warranty work has been done already.

Good luck on your RX8 endeavors!

At least you are getting a new engine. The car looks good though. I hope you get is back soon so you can enjoy it.

Atilla 03-06-2012 06:43 PM

+1 on being excited about getting a new engine.

Trust me. You want a new engine - whoever the previous owner was probably beat it to shit.

At least now you'll know that every mile you put on the engine will be yours :bigok:

Btw, welcome to socal - if you get your car back in time, come check out the park bbq meet i'm throwing on the 31st! All the cool kids are doing it..:smoker:

/spam :D:

SubliminalPollution 03-06-2012 06:58 PM

Yea I am! ..I miss her already though.

The previous owner only drove it 8k a year (according to CARFAX) but yeah you never know how hard he/she drove it.

Hell yeah every single mile will be mine! And I'll be able to jump on maintenance exactly on the day/milage.

Thanks! I am 100% sure I'll my car back by the 31st but I'm a groomsmen and the wedding is THAT day. :(

Atilla 03-07-2012 10:52 AM

weak bro...super weak :(

lol - jk jk. All good! Maybe we'll catch you at the next one or a beach cruise :icon_tup:

SubliminalPollution 03-07-2012 10:58 AM

If it were a date with the girlfriend I could find an excuse to cancel and go to the meet BUT it's a wedding that I was asked to be a part of over a year ago. Lol!

I actually mentioned the meet to my friend the groom and he said "I'll fucken kill you bastard if you fuck us over like that!" The funny thing was I didn't even say I was going to the meet, it was just a comment I made at dinner. Hahaha.

 @ testing the waters.

It was a nice try - btw, there's no need to break a date w/the gf. Plenty of us are bringin' our gf's along - hell, mine is a forum member n' she got pissed that i didn't automatically sign her up for the meet :p:

SubliminalPollution 03-07-2012 01:20 PM

Lol, I wouldn't really break a date with the girlfriend. That was a bad example. My bad. :dunno:

Next time there's a meet my lovely girlfriend and I shall come. :)
