CA Mechanic in San Diego area?

I was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with an independent mechanic/service shop on their RX8 in San Diego county? I've searched a few similiar threads but haven't found any recent recommendations. Thanks

I go to John Hine Mazda for everything.

If you go/call, ask for Mary Jackson and tell her Erik with the grey RX-8 referred you. She loves me

Party.

I always take mine there too...but it is under warranty.

You asked for an indy shop, and whenever I've referred someone to my indy guy they were very happy.

Jim Hrmoda - in Spring Valley
call for appt. 619 402-8147

tell him the hot chick with the purple shinka sent you.

thanks for the recommendation. I took my 8 in there a few times when it was on warranty, and have bought some parts there so I'll give them a try again.

I've seen this guy's name come up with his phone number searching through threads. Does he actually have a business with a name? Tried googling him but all that comes up are threads from this site. Thanks

Clem - Jim is at a rented work space at a mechanic shop in Spring Valley - I've been there myself. There's no business name I could give you. Not surprised nothing showed up on Google.

I've had good luck with Thomas & Bros. on Clairemont Drive in Bay Park.

Midnight Oil Motors off Miramar Rd has a mechanic who is very familiar with the RX-8. He used to race them when they first came out and he works on my RX-8 race car as well.

Yes, the 2009 and later is changed in many ways. The motor internally is the same. You can strip down the whole motor and put your 2007 parts on it and it should work ok with the exception of the oil injection system - the 2009 has six oil injection ports on the housings and the 2007 only four. You'll have to find a way to plug two of the ports and make it work.

If i swap the whole 09 in with the 09 ecu would the work cause i just swapped it in today the only thing i need to do it put all the plastic pieces on the top on but they broke when shipped so im waiting for more and im getting the 09 ecu delivered to so would that work or do i need to do more. i rewired the tranny in since the plugs where different and into the main fuse box. thats all i seen to rewire besides getting the different ecu

Well... I'm really not sure... of often the ECU on modern cars like the RX8 tie into other functions other than just the powertrain. Often the ECU with interface with the dash board and other car systems. I guess you can try it out. Let me know if it works!

Jim Hrmoda is one of the nicest genie people i have met in a long time. The man just does what he loves and fixes rotary engines. I will never go to anyone else to fix my car. call him at (619) 402-8147

No - and it is likely that there won't be any new ones sprouting up any time soon, with our cars out of production. Pure rotary mechanics are a rare breed.

I'm going to second this recommendation. I won't take anything rotary to anyone else.

Cool

Ditto Jim is the best! He eats, sleeps, and breaths rotary's! Jim has a plethora of new school and old school tribal knowledge of rotary's. He's a cool dude and easy to work with.
So yes I'll vouch for him too! Plus he built my engine and it runs like a dream.

Good info! Warranty expired and also looking for options other than dealership. Those people at dealership don't seem to know much more about rotary engine than people on this forum...

Anyone knows places to buy parts for RX8 for good price in San Diego? It seems every thing about this car is expensive... We usually buy online but wonder if anyone knows any place local...

Are you looking for stock parts or aftermarket upgrades?
