GARAGE MEET
Location: Phil's Garage (heated)
Scheduled Attraction: Charles R. Hill, Mazda Maniac, Chickenwafer
Date: March 2nd
Time: 1:00pm until 5:00pm
These are the Forums technical guys. They will be available to answer any of your questions on mods, tuning, nitrous and forced induction.
Charles (Ray) Has started Black Halo Racing and has a full line of parts also - get some competitive pricing from him on those mods your thinking about.
Or just come by and have a free beer or soda and relax
The reason it's in my garage is that they will be working on my car. Finally I'll get my dam aftercooler back in so I can go places. They also have plans of a few other mods for my car. Can't make the meet but want to talk to them? PM me and we'll see if arrangements can be made.

I need to chime in on this... Anthony, I'm sure you've seen (or perhaps own) designer brand clothing like True Religion, Seven, COH, Diesel, etc. where a pair of jeans are easily priced close to $200 a pair... where are they made? The Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, etc... made in a typical factory. What justifies them for setting the price? Don't get me wrong, there are companies that focus on quality and can't be easily "copied" and pass as an authentic product. Lets even use bags/purses as an example... Louis Vuitton purses are top notch... there are MANY people who try and replicate them but look like crap... but in the Philippines, there are a select few "replicas" that are made so well that it is hard to tell from the original... enough that the Philippine government REQUIRED all returning tourists to provide a valid receipt for the purses before leaving the country. JUST because they are brand name it doesn't mean that the off-brands aren't up to par in quality.
i know yeah but there are a lot of designer companies who dont useresourcing. A few of the high end brands do, i know gucci and prada do but hermes and chanel dont, thats where the comes a difference in certain brands. I agree with what you say tho. Im taking this one to Mythbusters about the wheels!

Your right about the quality, just cuz it's Japanese does not make it a quality product. They make **** to. The only (I speak from first hand knowledge) difference in the price in Japan and from Japan is the shipping. My sister was going to Japan and I was thinking of have her pick up some items I wanted. Found out that it's the same price here as there (except for freight and tax). Some of the stuff you think is make there is made elsewhere and shipped into Japan, in fact some stuff is made here under license.

In 1986 Enkei actively became involved in motors ports by supplying 3-piece wheels to the F1 team, Minardi. In 1995 Enkei became an official sponsor for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes which took championships home in 1998 and 1999. Enkei also supplies wheels to Mitsubishi Ralliart, which competes in the World Rally Championship (WRC), The team won four consecutive championships from 1996 though 1999. Enkei also supplies wheels to teams that race in the Japan GT Championship (JGTC), Super Taikyu and Drifting events
why would a racing team use a wheel like that if its just the same as the knock offs? why do racing teams use these wheels dude? come on

ROTA!!!
Philippine Aluminum Wheels Inc. (PAWI), was established on October 8, 1976 as a joint venture between FPS of Italy and Romeo S. Rojas to engage in the manufacture of alloy wheels in the Philippines.

The company's first production of its Rota brand of wheels was in 1977, with an initial production capacity of 4,000 wheels a month. In just the company's first year, Rota wheels are chosen by Chrysler-Mitsubishi as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for its vehicles passing through the stringent OEM specifications of its parent company in Japan.

The following year saw other major car assemblers engaging the services of the company to manufacture their OE wheel requirements for their vehicles. These companies included Ford, Datsun, Isuzu, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Volkswagen.

In 1983, after seven years of operation, PAWI became a 100% Filipino corporation. It also marked the year that Japanese technology was introduced into the company's manufacturing operations.

In 1988, PAWI develops its "magnesium-strengthened, heat treatable alloy," making Rota wheels lighter yet stronger and more durable. The following year saw a major upgrade of facilities as PAWI introduced state-of-the-art technological improvements in the form of the latest equipment and machines that speed up and improve chemical analysis, machining, painting and finishing. With the comeback of Toyota into the Philippine market, they chose Rota wheels as their OE wheels, as well as Daihatsu.

In 1990, a milestone was met when PAWI hits a record production of 20,000 Rota wheels per month.

Today, PAWI produces alloy wheels of world-class quality, using state-of-the-art technology. A new series of upgrading has since boosted its production capacity to new heights of 50,000 wheels a month. More than ten times of its capacity when it first started.

hmmmm, i should be going to japan this summer....maybe i can pick up some jdm parts for myself while im over there?!?!?!?!

now wouldn't that be amazing?

my imput on this ongoing argument. K go buy a BIC mechanical pencil. 3 bucks for 20 of them, but they stop working almost instantly after they run out of lead.

now go buy a pack of pilot mechanical pencils. 5 bucks for 4 pencils. it comes with 4 pencils, 4 sticks of lead in each pencil....and they will work until you loose it.

This is my example, i dont think that we would have problems here in vegas with off brand wheels simply because our roads are very smooth, on the other hand if u live on the outskirts of alabama where all the roads are 50+ years old, you may want the name brand wheels because you KNOW they will hold up, and if they don't it will be replaced under warranty.

you may never notice the difference in quality because of our nice, even streets. but someone on a bumpy road on their daily commute may.

Your example has some slight flaws... first off you are comparing a DISPOSABLE Bic pencil w/ a refillable Pilot pencil... not a good comparison IMO. One is designed to be thrown away once the lead is used up and the other requires lead refills when they run out. Second, what i think along w/ Mike & company is that there are off brand products (wheels, exhaust, headers, etc) that hold up just as well as the brand name products at a fraction of the brand name cost. I like the brand name stuff too... but i'm not about to blow my money buying them if i have an alternative.

Imo, if you want to spend 5000$ on rims, tires or whatever..or get the same quality and performance on the same said item for less...great! No one is going to know the quality of a product unless they have personal experience. It's your $ and no one else is spending it and sportin it but you.
However, if your gonna turn out your ride and want to show it off...don't ask for an opinion or leave it open for discussion if your not prepared to take any criticism..if you get flamed, oh well..no need to be a baby. To each his/her own opinion and I don't have to like what you do or say, but i don't have to read it either..if people are gonna be dicks about something that looks ugly to them...oh well, why should everyone always care what the other guy says...
