COBB Tuning?

Please let me know if anyone has maps I can pay for someone to install for me or give me some san diego COBB tuners that have experience with rotaries.

Thanks

Ok I heard you have the base tune downloadable just to get the car started. Then Elliot said MM was booked for dyno tunes. I also have to wake up in 6 hours to do the once a week/month google talk tune and I have no google account. I was hoping I can just pay someone to do this and be done with it. Rotary Reliabily and Cobb tuning socal seem to be booked as well.

I'll try google talk tomorrow but I have no prior training and may get stuck.

I will be getting my MM tune in a few months after I get the last of my N/A mods. headers mid pipe exhaust 4.7 gears light weight fly wheel ls2, or BHR ignition then Im gonna just wait till the engine goes sour then rebuild and turbo and back to MM for tuning.

Von I think MM is your best bet. Don't know from experience but damn near everyone in the club that has a Cobb AP has an MM tune. cant wait to get mine @_@.

Elliot would have forwarded the instructions for the MazdaManiac Custom Calibration Service when he placed the order for you.
He also mentioned that you wanted to bring the car to Arizona for a dyno tuning session, but booking something with only a few days notice (especially over the holidays - most shops around here are closed until January 2nd, as are all of the Cobb facilities around the country) is just not feasible.

Who did the installation of your Turblown kit and when? Where is the car now?

The session tomorrow is from 10:00am to 1:00pm Arizona time, which is only an hour ahead of the California time zone.

That said, here are some links that should be useful to you:

The instructions for the MazdaManiac Custom Calibration Service
The instructions to the instructions for the MazdaManiac Custom Calibration Service (if you are having trouble following the instructions)

As far as simply getting the car started, the instructions you were sent contained a download link to the base calibration database. Since your car is a 4-port with stock secondaries, the base calibration would have made the car drivable immediately.

I suggest you read the links above thoroughly. If this method is not feasible for you, we can set up a time in January for a live dyno tuning session.

Secondaries are ID2000

I'll try and make it to the google talk tuning session

Secondaries have nothing to do with start-up and "normal" operation. Please read the instructions before you sign-on this morning.
Thanks!

We just got the car started right after your session ended. Meth hole was not plugged. Car ran perfect, idle and everything and temps and sesors were all normal. 15 minutes after warmup car sounded funny and became harder to start. Elliot said that was the ECU trimming itself. I'll be gone for the next tune on the 10th but maybe someone else can take it.

MazdaManiac,

Ok heres the scoop, we were recommended to a shop in which we spent two days towing the car and 5 hours on the dyno, also had to comp a friend for work hours lost to help me out.

The tuner could not get the Cobb working despite the correct race software ver 2.0.1 and firmware 1.6 or whatever the instructions state. The tunner tried adjusting idle, fuel exc, but the ECU never took any changes.

Side note, we tried getting in touch with you for two days, told Elliot to call/text you. We also emailed, texted with no response. We were a little frusterated with the support given the amount of money and time we spent on our side.

Well, clearly, the tuner didn't know what they were doing. Sorry you had such a difficult time.

I don't know about you, but I don't do any tuning on Christmas or New Year's.
You might have waited until after the holiday to try to contact me instead of on Christmas Eve at 9:50pm. I keep normal business hours for the most part.

That said, you have only paid for the regular MazdaManiac Custom Calibration Service, which has several very clearly stated stipulations.
First, I do NOT do any phone support. That is clearly stated in the contract.
Second, tuning occurs on regularly-scheduled days via the interwebZ over Google Chat. This is also in the instructions.
For only $99, I don't believe your expectations are reasonable.

First, I understand the stipulations and don't want to bash but want to vent over my experiences so far with Cobb.

Thanks, we even called Cobb customer support and they could only recommend you. So I knew I was screwed being that I bought a unit that is tunable by only a single person in the country that only supports the product once or twice a month over chat during work hours. Not only that, I was charged extra hours on the dyno because your base tune has a password or so I was told. I believe you denied the tuner access to that base tune. So even though the cobb cost $600 doll hairs, I spent an additional 400 or so in tunning because a base tune had to be manually created since such few shops use the Cobb and have these available. Since the chat session is during work hours, I compensated a friend costing an additional few hundred bucks. The Cobbs additional costs brings it up to stand alone prices. Again, not bashing, I like the personal live service you provide, but just venting my bad experience due to the lack of support when needing it most. I could have easily paid more than $99 if it meant just 1response to any of the three forms of communication I tried with you, it just wasn't listed on the website.

Understandable but I was talking about the recent ones on the 4th 5th and 6th. Your live tunning service is great and looking into it but wish it was my first choice as apposed to last resort. I almost feel like I'm doubling down on a bad stock now.

That's fine, but I didn't pay Elliot from Turblown any money at all for tunning and he was online every minute of the day for the last month supporting me with his setup even while visiting family at the hospital. I definately owe him and don't expect anyone else to put the same effort in but would have been nice to see one quick response from MM when most needed over the few days on the dyno. I would have even paid big bucks for it.

I understand the stipulations, just venting due to the fact that the car will now spend 6 month in a garage while I'm in Afghanistan because I bought a unit that only one person in the country supports once or twice a month with no exceptions. My fault for sure. We are currently looking for a cobb replacement that is more widely accepted and tunable by more than one shop unless ofcourse I can pay for you to fly to California and get this thing tuned and running, maybe I'll have it ready to drive when I get back assuming the engine isn't already blown. That is an awsome service to provide btw.

On a final note, I'd like to praise the Turblown unit. It's made to order and pre fitted on an Rx8 before shipment for easy installation. Totall fab, shipping and install (by a friend after work) took under 30 days. Highly recommended if you want to go turbo.

I am not the only person in the country that tunes these things.
I'm just the only one that does it so inexpensively.

I don't know why you would be charged "extra hours" for the file being protected. It is obvious in the first 15 seconds when it is loaded into the AccessPORT.
It is protected for obvious reasons.

But it DOES say on the WEB site that I do not offer any other form of support than through the regular Google sessions.
That said, I did respond to every text I received after the holiday. I have them all saved. I would be more than willing to share them with you if you are not aware of the conversation.

You didn't text me on the 4th. You did text me on the 5th around 11:30am and I got back to you as soon as I could (about 40 minutes later). We went back and forth for about an hour.
Then, on the 6th (today), you texted me again around 12:50 and I got back to you in 6 minutes. We went back-and-forth again for about an hour. Then again at 5:30.
So, I don't know what you are on about with regards to that.

Once again - I do not offer this kind of support to customers - I was just doing it on my own time.

Then you probably would have felt better sticking with your original game plan, rather than going off to play dice in an alley.

That is because Elliot has a few high-paying customers and I have HUNDREDS of customers that are on the $99 service. I think you can understand the economy of scale at play there.

Once again, I am not the only one that can tune the AccessPORT. I am just the most prolific. That said, I am taking time off of my regular schedule to go to San Diego to tune the car in person in two weeks.

I am unaware of a device that can accomplish the same result.

See above.

Agreed.

Sorry for making you feel the need to defend yourself, I'm not trying to hurt your business. I just felt posting my experience with Cobb was the only thing you'd listen to at the time. I was going to simply shoot a PM but I didn't get a response to the last one I sent.

Not sure who you had a 45 minute convo with but I take back what I said about not making an effort to get back to me

The file being protected wasn't obvious to anyone in the shop nor my installer or myself. Without a base tune, the tunner said he had to create one manually. I guess someone asked you to unlock the file and the answer was no.

Anyways I'm over it. Hopefully, you'd like to fly to SD for the live tune session with dyno of your recommendation. My friend said you sent him the paperwork. If you can list your recommended SoCal Cobb tunners, I'd appreciate it. I can't have someone fly to SD every time I need a tune or adjustment.

Don't be "embarrassed". Just understand that you can't make assertions and expect me to tacitly accept them if they aren't true.

The same person with whom I am arranging the dyno tune for your car. It is the only number I've received any communication from.

That is because your shop had no idea what they were doing. As soon as they opened their copy of AccessTUNER, it would have indicated that the calibration was not available to them. I bet they don't even have a PRO license, anyway.

They should be expected to. If I was tuning someone's car, I wouldn't expect someone to have already done the hard part for me.

That is because I have spent a lot of time and expense developing my base calibration library, so it isn't "open-source".
