I bought my car at Galpin, very friendly staff when I went... service was great, no hassle... maybe because I bought my car there. Still it was very professional.

Aratinga 08-26-2005 12:43 PM

For service, I've found the best to be West Covina Mazda: (626) 966-0681. I've tried Claremont and will never go back there again... and that's where I bought my car. Tustin Mazda is also good, but if you're in or near Alhambra, West Covina is closer. It's right off the 10 at the Citrus Ave. exit, north of the the freeway. My car's going in there Monday for the recall service.

Outlaws eXtreme 08-26-2005 02:28 PM

Aratinga.. you got the letter already for the recall?

NomisR 08-26-2005 03:59 PM

Yeah Long Beach one is useless, would never consider going there. Browning in Cerritos is ok as long as you don't get "helped" (and I really use that term loosely) by the the dyke looking female service manager there. She was less than helpful, has an attitude, and would not even consider helping even though I BROUGHT THE DAMN TSB over!! Asshat, good thing the other guy.. forgot his name, the other service manager there, he got there, helped me out, put me in the loaner car and got me to work.... I'd NEVER deal with that witch again! And I was late to work because of her...

NomisR 08-26-2005 03:59 PM

Oh yeah, and you guys got the recall letter already?? I still haven't gotten mine, figure I'd take mine in for the recall and the FUGLY film on the headlights together..

Outlaws eXtreme 08-26-2005 04:20 PM

All the girls at Browning have left... it's only 3 guys working in the service desk.

Aratinga 08-26-2005 04:58 PM

No, I haven't received the recall letter in the mail yet, but I called West Covina (now apparently called "SUPER" Lincoln-Mercury-Mazda) this morning and asked if they were taking appointments for the RX-8 Recall work yet. They said they were, and that anytime next week would be ok. I'm taking the car over there Monday at 1PM; I'll wait for it if I can, but if they find heat damage I'll have to leave it for repairs. I'm assuming they have the heat pads in stock.

Outlaws eXtreme 08-26-2005 06:20 PM

I called them at West Covina, and they said they cannot do the service unless I bring the letter in. They are working on the recall now, but only if you have the letter. This was said by the head service manager guy there.

Same was said at Browning Mazda, and Tustin Mazda. Hmmm No letter, no job done.

Good luck Aratinga, if it works for you, I'll push my car forward to get the recall done as well.

Aratinga 08-26-2005 09:25 PM

^^^ Weird... I guess it's all in who you talk to. I spoke to a guy named Bill in Service when I set up the appointment. He never asked me if I had a letter; I just asked if they were doing the RX-8 recall work yet and he said yes, they were. I just printed out the letter and repair instructions from the TSB website and will take those with me.

The guy I usually deal with there is Oscar. Do you remember the name of the guy you talked to?

Hammer 08-26-2005 10:35 PM

I have never received the letter, but when I called Clairemont they offered to run the VIN to doublecheck it. They did, and are fixing it next week. If you are having problems getting a dealer to do it sans letter, maybe give them a call.

Aratinga says they suck, but I don't know. Never used them before. I'm giving them a shot because it's only about 5 miles from my office.

Is the Dyke included?

What about Robert?

Riccio 08-27-2005 08:55 AM

Aratinga -

My RX8 is at West Covina now - took it in Friday for trouble with the A/C (would blow cold for about 20 minutes, then blow HOT AS HELL for about 10 minutes, and then blow cold again. I worked with Bill who looked up my VIN and found 3 recalls active on my 8. He also talked up the new reflash and added that to the work order.

They had to order parts for the A/C and if I was willing to leave the car over the weekend, they had an expedited parts delivery and said they would use it - BUT - the car had to be there so when the parts arrive they could immediately work on it, otherwise, standard parts delivery and could not fix the A/C until end of next week. I decided to leave the 8 there, for pick up on Monday.

Maybe I'll see you there - I'll call and see if the car is ready around noon.

So far, very impressed with Bill's knowledge and friendly, helpful attitude.

Outlaws eXtreme 08-27-2005 12:22 PM

Jill,

That A/C recall is an older one... we're talking about the Thermal Damage one below the car... most places don't even have replacement parts for that. Has nothing to do with the A/C. Ask about Thermal Damage Recall...

Another new call is the Lower Ball Joint recall to some of the cars in the earlier models as well...

When did this happen? I'm just waiting for my recall letter and i'm taking my car in for the AC, Film, Recall, and a rattle on my driver side suicide door. Lotsa work that'll probably take the whole day. A/C was unbearable driving back from Pomona stuck in traffic... car moves, AC on, car stops, HOT AIR!!!...

Maybe they're better now; I'm basing my low opinion on how they were shortly after I bought my 8 from them back in summer of '03 (two years ago). When I had a CEL light up, they wanted me to drop the car off and leave it all day, they didn't have an available appointment until over a week later, they refused to do a "while you wait" oil change (that also required drop off and leave it all day!) and when they finally did the oil change, they overfilled the car with the wrong weight of oil.

Let's hope for your sake they've cleaned up their act.

That sucks. I hope not, because i'll drop them like a hot rock. Thanks for your story, though, I'll be sure to keep a close eye on them. I have to stick with them for now, as I need to get the recall done so I can register the car. (Just moved here from Virginia and the VA registration expires tuesday)

I didn't take it in for an A/C recall, I took it in because my A/C which used to work just fine, started working just awful.

I was really busy at work today, and didn't check (bug them) about the RX8 until about 5 PM. My service writer Bill says the parts didn't come in today - "FER SURE" tomorrow. Says I can pick the 8 up by 3 PM.

He wrote up 3 other recalls. My 8 is an 11/03 build, and this it it's FIRST trip back to the dealer, ever................

Outlaws eXtreme 08-29-2005 11:41 PM

Be sure to check that he did the Thermal Recall.

The A/C Recall is what you are experiencing... sudden loss of A/C, then SMACK, nothing. etc.

Let us know if they are working on the Thermal.. that way we know they are doing the latest one. :)
