Edit: da hell is going on around here.
it's there for some posts and not others.

Probably because there are also different reply formats depending on which section and/or thread you're working with. Like when editing a post, sometimes the delete section is at the top, other times it's at the bottom, and so on. Been like that for years. Seems like some parts of the vbulletin software are unique and grafted on rather than controlled by a common overall set of rules and controls ....
