AutoEngineuity Scan Tool

Now compatable with the CAN supported RX8. This is a diagnostic tool that works with PC, Palm, and Pocket PC. Plugs directly into OBDII port and allows users to monitor sensor activity in real time. The RX8's CAN system is very fast and has the ability to deliver an unbaliveable amount of info packets per second compared to previous systems. We have tested it and it works. Here's a little bit of what it can do:

*Read Stored and Pending Diagnostic Trouble Codes (including Manufacturer Enhanced codes)

*Read and clear Freeze Frame data

*Clear the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon indicator

*View live vehicle sensors in a grid, graph, and gauge format

*View oxygen sensor live data and test results

*View all 11 Inspection/Maintenance system test results

*Unlimited logging of Diagnostic Trouble Codes and live vehicle sensors

*English or Metric (SI) units of measure supported

*Run and query specific component and system tests

*View generic and manufacturer enhanced data on the same tool

*Configure the interface to suit your preferences http://www.autoenginuity.com/images/ggg-sm.gif

Supports:
1996 and newer passenger vehicles whether it be domestic, Asian, or European.
SAE interfaces: J1850 (PWM and VPM) and ISO-9141-2

Requirements

Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000 / XP operating system, 2 Mb of free drive space, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, 32 Mb of memory.

The ScanTool package consists of:http://www.autoenginuity.com/images/...ot-final-2.jpg

AutoEnginuity's software

AutoEnginuity's OBD-II vehicle interface

Serial interface cable

Protective case

User Guide

Future upgrades are free and so is the support and tech line. As for functionality, one thing that really sticks out about this system is that it will work on any OBDII system including any new and future CAN systems. We will continue to help develop this product with AutoEngineuity as they are aware of the high demand for the missing power issue that we all know about. We are hoping that we can have some tunning options available in the neer future as well.

Huff,

You've got to stop telling me about all of these cool mods, you're going to make me bankrupt. :p

VividRacing.com Feb 5, 2004 04:05 PM

C'mon, you know you like it.

r0tor Feb 5, 2004 05:27 PM

I know it says it is CAN compliant, but how RX8 compliant is it??

what I mean is historically these types of things gave you the basic bare bones OBD-II capatability, but if you wanted to be able to read all the codes and information you needed to buy an expansion pack for your car make. If you didn't, you would see codes pop up or read data but have no clue what you were looking at.

I mentioned it here:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/palm-os-based-scan-tool-19887/

Is it true that you're (Vivid) working with them developing an ecu reprogrammer?

WHealy Feb 5, 2004 11:26 PM

CAN? Obviously I have a lot to learn on this sibject, but i have no idea what that is. Can someone enlighten me?

Genom Feb 6, 2004 01:28 PM

Hmm... anybody wanna get me this as a present?

I really do deserve it. Trust me.

VividRacing.com Feb 6, 2004 01:43 PM

If you say so then I believe you.

I contacted the company to find out the answer to my question. There tech service department is awesome - they actually e-mailed me screens from an RX8!!

Anyway, the scan tool will read about 80 sensors - which is good but not great. For example, a Ford expansion pack will get you 200 sensors or a GM expansion pack will get you almost 600! But Mazda isn't supported as well as those other 2 companies though. One does have to wonder if the next gen CAN Ford system will be related to the Mazda CAN ecu...

They did show me a sensor screen that had the B1S2 Wideband O2 sensor on it though  .

Omicron Feb 7, 2004 02:04 PM

Hmmmmmm, veeery interesting. So if the current version of this reads 80 sensors, but there are other versions for Ford /GMC etc, then it sounds to me like waiting a bit will yield a unit that can read more sensors.

But this begs the questions: Just how many sensors does the RX-8 have that can be read by a tool like this? And, what is the tool that Mazda service departments are using?

There are actually only 79 sensors that OBDII reads, so to read any more then that you need something that goes beyond the OBDII protocal (like the Ford and GM expansion packs do). I haven't seen any Mazda expansion packs yet since the advent of OBDII... and I'm not getting my hopes up either - Mazda just doesn't sell enough cars to get that kind of support :(

See there, and I thought most people on this board were just worried about getting the power back. Glad you called up the company and they were a help to you.

RX8on19s Feb 15, 2004 05:36 PM

Huff,

Are these units ready to ship and how accurate is the wide-band analyzer compared to others?

Omicron Feb 16, 2004 09:20 AM

Good question. Also, if possible Huff, I'd like just a bit more info on this... I am seriously considering getting one from you. Can you point me to more complete info on what the ~80 sensors available are, what the tool can do besides log sensor data and clear the CEL, etc?

Xavier296 Feb 16, 2004 09:50 AM

I would probably be interested in this item also. Dave at Random Tech could not interface with the RX8 computer with his OBDII reader, so I am unable to make sure that my CEL is converter efficiency. I have been looking for anyone else who can check and clear the code(other than the dealer). If anyone has any Atlanta suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

I'll try to pull some more info together for you guys. Honestly I'm not a huge tech guy and alot of the functions and info don't make much sense to me though the designer is totaly stoked and starts telling me about this and that and it ends up going in one ear and out the other.

RX8on19s Feb 16, 2004 04:31 PM

Huff,

I ordered a unit from you guys last night.

they sent me this... it helps to get a bit of an understanding

r0tor Feb 16, 2004 05:59 PM

and this...

I was hoping to see things like steering wheel input and DSC activation but i don't see them here at least

oh yea, these were screen shots while being hooked up to an 8

RX8on19s Feb 16, 2004 06:55 PM

Thanks prOber.....

Thanks Huff... I was hoping the manufacturer of this tool might have more info online somewhere. Please let us know what you find out.

And MANY THANKS Prober, those screen shots help a bit.

r0tor Feb 17, 2004 05:09 PM

no problem fella's

RX8on19s Feb 17, 2004 05:31 PM

Huff, I ordered a unit on Sunday. Do you know how long it takes to ship out?

my10ae Feb 17, 2004 06:01 PM

Speed Racer:

Wanna go in and get 2 shipped to 1 address? I'm very interested in this unit as I have one for my Palm Pilot and my 99 Miata. Let me know.

Speed Racer Feb 17, 2004 07:57 PM

Huff,

I was looking at AutoEnginuity's website and noticed some fine print.

"CAN support is an optional daughter board expansion for our OBD-II connector."

Is the optional daughter board included with your kit? I just want to make sure that it will work with our cars right out of the box. ;)
