RX8 Engine responce HELP!

My rx8 is an 05 has 56k miles original engine. Never had any issues as far as the engine goes till an hour ago. I was on parkway south on my daily commute to school and after i payed a toll as i was shifting once i hit 4th gear after 3k rpm it started bogging as in ( it was as if the engine thought i was tapping the gas when really my foot was down 65% with no movement) jerking if you'd say back and forth. The engine light then started flashing and when i came to a stop the engine completely died. I turned it back on and had to rev the **** out of it so i could even move it another 10 feet. Please if anyone could tell me what to do to get it temporarily functional so i can just make it to work and the dealer tomorrow i'd really appreciate it. Should i go in and get a compression test and try for a new engine? PLEASE HELP im freaking out... but that's what happens when you get an 8 i guess. Thank you.

Most likely the CEL flashing is ignition failure. If the CEL remains illuminated, get the code read. If that failure has exited for some time, you could have other issues as well. Replacement of ignition coils, wires and plugs are in order, just hope you did not fry the CAT or cause other damage in the process. This is your first step.

check engine light came on, started blinking then stayed solid, i noticed a HUGE lose in power, it then, started smoking, parked it as soon as i could... then got out checked engine bay. Nothing was wrong, looked under the car and saw flames in my tunnel 10 minutes later 3 fire trucks arrived and by that time the 8 was toast... literally.

That's terrible. Sorry bro.
I've heard of cats starting fires parked in yards or fields, but not on the road.
Too bad.

Excess gas will do it.

Some time ago a friend had a small fire from his cat overheating while driving. Something broke in the carburetor (I said it was some time ago) dumping extra gas through the system.

When two of my coils failed, both on the same rotor, the cat got really hot and smoke was wafting out from under the car as I coasted into the dealer service bay. I kind of shudder to think what would have happened if I had a couple of more miles to go.

Ken
