Username Registration

I don't quite remember what hoops I had to jump through to join this forum, but it is fairly apparently that the current registration process is easily navigated by spam bots (or someone has an inordinate amount of time to dedicate to spam posts). These posts show up almost entirely in the vendor sub-forums. They are not usually posted more than once. I've seen small forums have this kind of issue, but not a forum as large as this.

This is more of a yes/no question/affirmation than a suggestion. Is the username registration going to be revamped to reduce the spam? I'm sure most of the moderators are tired of deleting spam out of the Rx7store subforum.

i registered on the Rockford Fosgate Forum, and they had to send me an e-mail when i was approved to log onto the forums. but then again, it is much smaller than this, although it may help to reduce the spamming crap

We're discussing ways to slow it up a bit- and yes, it is annoying having to deal with all this spam on a regular basis.

when i ran azrx8.com "phbb" (now defunct couldn't afford it anymore) I would get 15-30 new users a day. I did the Admin has to approve you account thing. That just keeps the spam off the forum.
I tried the "humanizer" mod but it just wouldn't show up on the registration page.
phbb seems to have a lot of tools but only worked with version I didn't have.

I gave up and shut the forum down plus I couldn't afford it and I'm running the local car club site.

Anyone know of a bot "immune" forum software to run?
