US free zone please

Please keep this part of the forum clear from Shipping Dates etc. as they do not affect us all. There are 250m people in the US and there are 5.75b people everywhere else. This part of the forum is supposed to be for discussions that are going to affect us all. I'm sure that you'd all be pretty bored if us Australians started polluting the forum with information that was useless to you. please keep in mind that this is an INTERNATIONAL forum, not just for the use of US buyers.

Elara 06-28-2003 10:51 PM

Tommo, it's understandable that you're annoyed the cars haven't hit Australia yet, but when the Australian shipping dates start hitting, feel free to put them in here as well. It's for RX-8 Discussion- but not everything is going to affect every person on the board. I don't care about "shift knob confusion" and "bad news for automatic owners" so I didn't read those threads. If you don't want to read a thread, then don't. It's NOT such a big deal, in the end.

And again, this belongs in the Suggestions forum.

pepe 06-29-2003 02:28 AM

Not wanting to flame it up here, just wanting to point out that I believe the cars are actually here in Australia already, as someone pointed out in the Aussie forum, they spotted a truckload of them a week or two ago :D Preorder people here are getting the book, the special key (I'm getting a black one, won't that key be special!) and a half day race track session in demo cars, which start in a week or two. Official release date is 1st Aug :)

Elara 06-29-2003 08:58 AM

All the better. Now you guys can start posting your expected delivery dates as well. Congratulations!

Toadman 06-29-2003 12:21 PM

I don't see how the info is useless, Tommo.
Japan got theirs first and we encourage EAST MOON and others to post their pics/thoughts in this discussion forum. No one here is gloating or thumbing their nose at anyone. We have a sticky thread on who is going to get theirs first in the USA and you don't have to read it if you don't want to. It IS an international forum, and we are all excited at getting the 8, but vehicle distribution/shipping dates are beyond our control. Some of us have been here since December 2001 waiting for the return of the rotary. Maybe show some enthusiasm and support? You'll also likely pick up tech tips and hints here before your car arrives that you can apply. Maybe avoid some pitfalls or mistakes us "Pioneers" made.
;)

ZoomZoom 06-29-2003 03:24 PM

Maybe the answer is to create a special VIN/Delivery Section, that would help cleanup the Discussion Section a little. I hope this doesn't come across as sour grapes because I haven't got my VIN yet.

The only advantage of having a VIN is to report it to your insurance company IMHO.

RX-3_13B_Tommo 06-30-2003 01:15 AM

How can I be expected to get technical info if I can't find any because of all the other stuff polluting the forum? I know I sound like a hypocrite, this thread isn't exactly helping anyone, but for the sake of those to come next, keep it clean.

Now that we are starting to get our VIN numbers etc I'm sure we will post them, but in our regional forum because we, as non-us citizens, know that we come second to you and that we should keep to ourselves and let you guys get the privileges. We'll try not to disturb you with our pitiful information.

"How can I be expected to get technical info if I can't find any because of all the other stuff polluting the forum?"

Maybe you should look in the TECH section of the forum :p

By the way this is now an RX-8 free zone, only people with WRXs can post from now on!

msydd 06-30-2003 08:37 AM

Guys, let's try to keep this civilised (civilized for my US friends).

The original point that this forum has been overrun with US delivery and VIN details cannot be denied.

It is a fair request that this be moved to your local forum. Why else do we have local forums?

Once again: THERE IS NO U.S. ONLY FORUM!

msydd 06-30-2003 09:00 AM

Am I missing something... but aren't there 7 US specific forums ?!?

med_mx6 06-30-2003 10:22 AM

this is quite an enlightening thread.... the VINs and delivery dates concern is just another manifestation of how the US is so egocentric. (i totally agree tommo & msydd.) while i find the VIN/dd information exciting because I am in the US and I can't wait to see the RX8 on the road, I can totally understand that non-US people couldn't care less. But everybody's got a good point. Let's keep the VIN/dd stuff consolidated somewhere else (like Tommo, msydd, and Zoom zoom suggested), but elara is also right; if you don't care about VIN/dd stuff, then don't read the thread! It's simple! (Also, however, unfortunately for Tommo/msydd, while the US is only 252 mil (the rest 5.75 bil), the US is by far the largest auto market...) Anyway, this whole thread can be argue to no end.

IMHO i think we should just create a few stickies, one for the east, one for the west, one for the south, et al. Creating a section would be the cleanest fix but is somewhat "useless" since after august or december(?), no one's gonna keep track of every ship coming and going, how many are on each ship, how long they're in port, how long it'll take to move by rail/trailer, etc.

Toadman 06-30-2003 01:51 PM

Now why would say such a thing? Egocentric? This isn't about ego or one-upmanship, it's about taking delivery of the RX-8! We are just lucky to have dealership employees around who can run our VIN's and check shipping status as a very valuable courtesy.

IMHO i think we should just create a few stickies, one for the east, one for the west, one for the south, et al.
Those who are providing VIN info have national access to all vins, regardless of delivery zone. It would be a disservice to them to have to farm VIN's from each region, don't you think? It's a pain in the a$$ as it is for them to keep up with requests and I salute them. But like you said, when the car is fully available globally in a few months the point will be moot and we will prune these threads.

:)

If you have any other suggestions please let us know.

Exactly. The guy in California (west) is looking up VIN's for everyone else in the U.S. (mountian, east, south...) therefore this is a "generael topic," and not specific to any one regional forum.

RX-3_13B_Tommo 07-01-2003 08:44 AM

Good, my family owns an MY98 Red WRX so I guess I can go on for a bit longer.

Thank you for illustrating my point so well.

So a guy at one end of the US wants to look up VIN numbers all over the country; you think that this makes this a General topic? Keep in mind that this IS an INTERNATIONAL forum and so I hardly think that what goes on at one end of your country is relevent to the rest of us. This would be a general topic if the US had their own regional forum. As far as I know, all countries are divided up into states/territories but why is it that the US gets specific forums for each region?

All i'm saying is that why should US buyers be able to put THEIR information on the GD?

In short:
Topics that affect the US only are not general topics for the entire forum.
try to remember that there are other people in the world.

Because half (30k) of the entire annual worldwide RX-8 production (60k) will be sold to the U.S.A., Therefore the most interested group will be the U.S. forum members. This is pure speculation on my part but there may be more forum members registered that are from California than from all of Europe.

A more productive suggestion may be: there should be a "U.S.A. Only forum" not a "US Free Zone."

Can't we just all get along.
