Post count

It seems every time I log on, my "New Posts" count and "New Threads" count changes dramatically up or down. Sometimes they're in the 600's and other days down in the 10's or less (like today). What's up?

are you retarded?

it changes depending on the last time you visited the site. the 'new posts' reflects how many new posts have happened since you last clicked on the site...and the same goes for the threads.

am i missing something? this isn't brain surgery.

I think I know what 1.3L is referring to, as it happens to me as well.

If I log on and the site reflects 600 new posts, but I may only read 50 of them. The next time I log on the remaining 550 post that I did not read will not be shown in bold to reflect they are/were unread. Sometimes it makes it hard to distinguish which posts are new and unread.

Better example: Ill bring up the forum which states 500 new posts. One minute later my girlfriend closes my browser (for whatever reason). One minute later I reopen the forum and the "new posts" have been reset and now reflect 5 new posts.

That's exactly how it works.

Five new posts from the time you closed it the first time to the time you opened it the next time.

You fail to make note that the "New Posts" etc. are mentioned in a box next to your icon. I think it's misleading. In any case, thanks for your enlightenment.

As to your "retarded" comment, hang it in your f'in ear. :D

Not on other forums I frequent. The post stays "unread' and listed as "new" until I click into the thread, or reset the post count.

OK, well if after 100+ posts, you can't comprehend how it works on THIS site, then I believe there is a little 'user error' involved....not by fault of this site.

Oh Mugatu, you're always so nice. About the post count question, I never really used that new post thing, but now I find I kind of like it. I also find that a lot of other forums, like Cam said, do it differently.

Give us a break Mr. Magoo. Everyone experiences a little PEBKAC now and then.
