Old Thread Warning

Found this while perusing another forum. I like it.

Yes, it introduces the constant question of start a new thread vs bump an old, but this doesn't prohibit, just a clear reminder for those people that find that they know how to solve some guy's oil consumption problem from 8 years ago....

Just a thought.

Problems attract problem solvers....

That is why we all own RX8s :wavey:

TeamRX8 07-07-2012 08:39 PM

^^let me guess, you are either a career bureaucrat with the US Government or a complete maroon ....

put a gun to every stupid person's head and pull the trigger, now that's a real solution ... accept there wouldn't be anybody left in the world

or just accept that people are going to stupid to some extent regardless or more importantly, because it only exists as a "problem" in the perfectionist fantasy within your mind. How does bumping an old subject make for a problem any way? An annoyance maybe, problem no. Or rather, you would rather inconvenience people who searched and have a real reason to bump a thread instead. Yes, that is a real solution.

Continuously adding complexity to prevent what ultimately is unavoidable is an unsustainable system that will eventually fail under the burden of it's own excessiveness. It's occurring all around you day by day.

Or perhaps simply it's a friendly note that lets them know how old the thread is in case they didn't notice that the thread was old, and jumped in to answer someone's question when the OP doesn't even have their RX-8 any more and hasn't logged on in years.

If it's a relevant thread that they wish to bump and continue the topic, they are still free to do so.

I admit to not really being sure how or why this suggestion offends you? :scratchhe

It doesn't add server load, you aren't the one that would implement the changes, you are not prevented from bumping old threads if you wish, if you never even open an old thread you would never even see the warning, it doesn't change search results.

Complaining that it is adding complexity that is bound to fail is like saying that a shock and spring combination is added complexity that is bound to fail vs a leaf spring....

Perhaps you would prefer that the human race still live in caves, trying to figure out this thing called a wheel. Because everything that comes after it is added complexity.

I'm not sure who Team was pointing his frustrations with life at...

Quite an entertaining rant though...

ah, it's good to be back on the 8 forum. Same old song and dance........:argue:
Said this before but didn't your parents tell you "if you don't have something good to say don't say it" ...... now I'm going to get it!

+1 for Old Thread Warning

A Canuck bureaucrat with the US Government, nice job if you can get it!

Let's not get personal about this. If someone offends you, go into the Control Panel and put them on your ignore list.

RIWWP 07-13-2012 08:49 AM

Example A: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...0/#post4305823

Starring two of our very own stars.

G_ man 07-13-2012 09:28 AM

It's a good idea, just gets me into the 8 quicker instead of reading something I didn't need to

RIWWP 07-13-2012 11:03 AM

Another example, on my own thread to answer a question I had 4 years ago... https://www.rx8club.com/general-auto...9/#post4306066

TeamRX8 07-13-2012 09:45 PM

Is there any particular reason that my last two replies have been deleted?

Jedi54 07-14-2012 11:17 AM

I'm sure there is.

tbh: I kind of like this idea, I could see it helping newer members who aren't used to checking thread posting dates before asking questions. At least this way, it helps to manage their expectations on response time.

TeamRX8 07-14-2012 10:56 PM

I didn't resort to name calling, so bias and hypocrisy by others could be reasons

viprez586 07-17-2012 07:04 AM

+1, got my vote!

Yep, the whole world's out to get you.

nuke0907 07-22-2012 05:56 PM

How about a new thread warning? make it so if you're a noob it will ask if you have searched before posting another thread.

No they're not. I am just as insignificant as your perceived opinion about me.

Nannybotting has been tried time and time again long before computers existed. When you come to accept your lesson in fail you have a final way out

RIWWP 07-31-2012 07:02 AM

Team, if you have an actual reason why an old thread warning would be a detriment with negative effects, I'd like to hear it.

Does he really look like a man with a plan?
