Got my phone problem figured out so now I'm able to access the forum page again. However, if I enter the m.rx8club.com address, it still reverts to the regular www.rx8club.com URL automatically. Looks like the site does not recognize my browser (Opera Mini 4.2) as a mobile-capable one and it autoforwards to the regular URL.
Can this be prevented somehow? Or could this browser be added to the list of those able to render the mobile site?

Hey Tamas,

Unfortunately because of the way Opera works, there is no way for us to show it the mobile site. You'll have to use a different browser. I'm sorry.

cheers,
robb

Bummer... I wonder how other sites (like Yahoo, Gmail, CNN just to name a few) deal with this as their mobile sites work just fine in this browser.
Ah well...

Loki 09-20-2010 09:36 AM

Working fine for me on Opera 5.1 for Android. One thing I find missing is you can't Reply with Quote to a post, there is no button for it.

However, I noticed that in the mobile version, the regional forums links are offset by one. So if I click Canada For Sale/Trade, I get the Europe forum. If I click on Canada, I get Canada For Sale/Trade, etc.

Loki, that's odd, we'll have to investigate.

cheers,
robb

Loki, i can not replicate this. Are you sure it's still occurring?

cheers,
robb

I'm sort of confused about this Opera topic.

Loki, are you saying that the mobile site works for you with Opera 5.1?

This contradicts with the statement from Robb saying "because of the way Opera works, there is no way for us to show it the mobile site".
This would mean that the problem is generic with all Opera versions, so then the mobile site should not work on ver. 5.1 either.

Or Robb, did you mean specifically Opera 4.2 being the issue?

Loki 09-23-2010 07:16 AM

I'm writing this through Opera right now. m.rx8club.com, yep.

Hmm, the offset forum bug doesn't seem to be happening right now. Gotta love transient bugs :p

Tamas 09-23-2010 01:27 PM

Well, I CAN access rx8club using Opera Mini, and the URL I'm typing is m.rx8club.com - but what comes up is the regular www.rx8club.com layout, not the mobile site. Do you get the
mobile layout with Opera 5?

I'm using the Java version of Opera Mini 4.2 - if you are on Android, then maybe that's the difference, and the mobile rx8club works with that browser but not the Java version... who knows.

It's definitely the mobile version, reduced graphics, and the missing reply with quote button (in fact all per-post buttons). Anywhos. Thanks for building it! Much easier on a touchscreen than the full size.

Robb M. 09-24-2010 12:29 PM

We are working on the quote button.

I think the issue is Opera Mini, i'm sorry, not sure what the technical reason is.

You can use a free program for iPod Touch and iPhone called Forum Runner. But, I'm not sure if it would work or not, because I haven't used it.

So after having been given this option I've gone back to using the regular forums on my iphone 4, because this versions sucks to navigate with.

You can't choose to go the last page in topic, you have to go to the first and navigate through it. Once in a thread you can't choose which page you actually want, you have to go forwards or backwards page by page.

Because of the way the UI is implemented its hard to tell which threads have new posts and which ones you can ignore.

Just ick. I had more but can't remember since I stopped using it.
